Temporarily Disable Virus Protection Software
This step varies depending on the antivirus software installed on your computer. Commonly, you will
locate the icon for your software (bottom right toolbar of Windows).
1. Click the small up arrow to open the active programs window.
.
2. Right-click on the icon for your virus software and choose Disable. The example here shows
disabling Avast virus software until the computer is restarted.
For additional information about disabling your antivirus, click
http://www.vsmsoftware.net/FAQdatabase/search_4D.aspx?FAQ=HD010 . (This FAQ file is for the 4D
Embroidery software, but contains basic information about how to disable several brands of virus
protection software.)
Most virus software programs re-enable themselves when you reboot your computer, so if you
experience problems during the remainder of the installation process, check that the virus software is
still disabled.
In the future, if you experience problems with the dongle not lighting up or lighting up and then turning
off later, your virus protection software may be disabling the dongle. Go into advanced settings inside
your virus software and bypass the 5D Embroidery folder on your computer (other hard bypass setting
may be required for Norton 360).
Note that when you purchase a new computer, even if you have not yet purchased virus protection
software, there is probably one preinstalled. Many computers have McAfee or Norton Utilities
preinstalled. You must disable it temporarily.
Remember to Enable your software after installing 5D Embroidery software.

Install Machine Communication Software If Needed
• If you previously installed 4D Embroidery software on this computer, skip
this section.
If you have never installed machine communication on this computer, return to the Menu and install

computer, follow these steps:

All Programs5D Embroidery
1. Click to launch the 5D Configure Wizard. Choose Next.
2. On the Background window, you may change the background color and texture if desired. To
accept the color and texture, advance to the next screen with Next. If you prefer a different
background, click the small arrow adjacent to Color to open the drop-down menu. Select your
preferred color. Use the drop-down arrow next to Background to change to another texture.
3. On the Grid Color window, select Next to accept the default grid color or use the drop-down
arrow to choose a different color.
4. Select your preferred theme and colors. Choose Next.
5. On the Enter Real Size Setting window, you will need to
change the setting to match your computer screen size.
Every computer is different, so you must measure your
own screen. Place a clear metric ruler next to the picture
of the ruler on the screen. Measure the distance from the
Measure this distance
left side of the ruler to the right side of the ruler, to the
nearest ½ of a millimeter. Enter the distance in the box. Most users will find that the distance is
between 22.0 millimeters and 30.0 millimeters.
6. Choose Next.
7. Choose Show Measurements in Millimeters and then Next.
8. On the Splitting Options window, choose
your preferred options. If you are not yet
familiar with using multi-part hoops,
select the default settings. Choose Next.
9. On the Output Format window, select
Husqvarna Viking/Pfaff (*.vp3) if you have a
Viking or Pfaff embroidery machine. Other
users may select their preferred output file
format. You can always change a file format in 5D Organizer later or you can select a different
file format when you save a design in other 5D software modules. This is only the default
setting for saving designs. The preferred format is .vp3 because it saves color information and
file notes. Choose Next.
10. On the Import Thread Range, select the
thread brand you use most frequently. You
can add thread ranges and select from over
14,000 individual built-in threads later.

if desired or advance to the next screen with Next.

machines you own.

select the machine you own. Choose OK to close the Add Machines window.
14. Do not close the MyMachines window yet. Add another machine by choosing Add again.
Follow step 13 to add the Pfaff Creative Vision and then add the Husqvarna/Viking Designer
Diamond. (If you previously added one of these machines, don’t add two of the same machine).
Even if you don’t own both of these machines, adding them to your list of machines will give you
many extra motifs (machine stitches you can use inside the embroidery hoop) in the 5D
Embroidery program.
15. Once you have added the appropriate machines, advance to the next window with Next.
16. Deselect (take out the check mark) in the
Include all hoops box. Since you added
the Creative Vision and the Designer
Diamond to your machine list, you
probably do not need all of the hoops for
both machines in your hoop list. Choose Next.
17. In the Select MyHoops window, click Hoop Manager to add the hoops you own.
18. Under Hoop Group, select your machine.
19. Select a hoop you own from the list and then click the right arrow to add this to your list of
hoops.
20. Continue adding hoops to My Hoops as needed. Choose OK when you are finished. Choose
Next.
21. The Summary window indicates the options you chose inside the 5D Configure Wizard. Choose
Next.
