To move the window, click on the title bar and drag the window to a new position on the screen. Click on the Text button to display the Text Palette. EMBEDDING FILES phosphorus.MOV NOTES As a whiteboard (AND saves your notes) As an Overhead Projector As a substitute for a slide projector o Unfortunately image quality is an issue, but … projectors … will be replaced Convert “old” PowerPoint presentations (I have very few) (Cricket’s area) As a mechanism for showing VCR/DVD (no TV needed) As my “planner” (although I am still duplicating my lesson plans) o Cricket no longer keeps a formal lesson plan book Sometimes I take attendance on the board – write names on Title page (who was absent, who was late) (save) Awesome … for use during Review Sessions … do you remember when we discussed X (bring back the actual page w/ the class notes from that day) Excellent source of “notes” o Drop off in the 2 tutor centers every Friday o I have ALL of the notes that were put on the board first semester Saves me an enormous amount of time at the end of the day o I know exactly where I left off at the end of every class Helpful when preparing a test … did we discuss “x” in such in such a class o you can go back and check, because you have the notes I don’t typically do this … but if a student is out sick, I can give out the notes Easy to copy use the same Flipchart for my “other” WCC classes Easy to share with other members of the department (and then build) o Andrei o Science o Social Studies has not done much of this yet, but that is one of the goals for this summer Textbooks nearly all (?) are on CD-Rom: Easy to access to pages/pics Allows you to use the Web in class, o Write on the pages, save the pages w/ the writing Allows you to stop a movie midstream o Write on the scene, save the scene w/the writing Music, Links to Websites, Quicktime movies (and others) o Imbed into your presentation … o Easy, seamless access ActiveSlate: Science Most exciting feature … unfortunately, I have not implemented yet: ActiveVote Family -- you you can expect that your ancestors will continue the work you began Family -- has determined your future Ancestors are important! Respect for parents Sense of independence Definitely inward looking Not looking for outside help Looking inward to solve problems (family, future family members) Sense of - we can accomplish anything Perseverance Start a job -- it will be accomplished Small steps -- large results Control over nature? Time is cyclical ... not linear? Create your own FlipChart … Your assignment is to create a 5-paged Flipchart! When creating your “first” Flipchart, please demonstrate the following skills … Open the software Name and then save the Flipchart Create a Title Page o Use the “Text” (“T”) box to create a title Choose a font, a font size, a font color Give the Title Page a background color Put your name on the Title Page in a color other than the color that you use for the title Page 2 – Go to the Web and find a copy of the March Madness Bracket o Copy the Bracket onto Page 2 o “Free” “write” (this will be sloppy) the names of the Final Four teams using the pencil tool o “Free” write the names of the two teams that you think will make it to the final game (in a different color …) o Draw a “perfect” circle (or square) using the Pencil Tool around the name of the team that you think will win o Draw a straight line using the Pencil Tool through the name of the team that you think will lose Page 3 – Go to the Web and find a picture of the person you think will be the Democratic Presidential nominee o Take a “photo” of this person using the camera tool o Insert the photo on page 3 o Add color to the background o Add a caption Practice inserting a “new” page between page 2 and 3 o Type any discussion question on this page … o Add some “notes” (potential answers to your question) using the note feature Page 5 – Go to the Web and find a picture of ______ o Add the picture to your FlipChart Look for the Calibration Tool! This feature allows you to include additional information for a particular Flipchart page. The type of information can include: *Set of instructions for an activity. *List of useful keywords or prompts. *Presentation outline, summary, or lesson plan. *Answers to a problem set or series of questions *Supporting notes for the Flipchart page with instructions on what to do with the page. This is particularly useful if you share work with other colleagues. *Information gathered from student feedback or student assessments 5 6 7 Click on the page notes button below to reveal the page notes window and to read some reasons why you might use this feature of ACTIVstudio Four Ways to Embed Video files (quicktime or SWF) From the Main Menu Bar: Page, Insert, Link Object.... 1.
