How to Create an Online Account
with the Home Office
1. Go to https://apply.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/iapply.portal
2. Click register (this is at the top right-hand side of the page).
First you must
create an account,
by registering your
details.
Then the Home
Office will send
you an email that
tells you how to
activate your
account.

3. Complete the boxes with your personal
details:
You must record your username, memorable
word and password.
- User name
Choose a user name with at least eight characters. You
can use letters and numbers but you must not include
spaces. Your user name is not case-sensitive.
- Email
Your current email address. They will use this email
address to confirm any appointments you make and
manage your account.
- UK Telephone Number
Your UK telephone either a mobile or landline number.
Use only numbers, do not leave any spaces.
- Memorable Word
Choose a memorable word to protect your privacy. We
will ask you to enter three random characters from this
word whenever you log on.

User Name
You must record your user name.
• Choose a user name with at least 8 characters.
• You can use letters and numbers but you must not include spaces.
• Your user name is not case-sensitive .
• Examples of correct user
names:
- Yingzhang
- Yleiwang45
- Qiang652
- charlotterose
• Examples of incorrect user names:
- Li Xiu Ying (Contains a space)
- Fang_Yang (Uses a character that is not a
letter or a number)
- Weo (Has less than eight characters)
- Michael-Davis (Uses a character that is not
a letter or a number)

Memorable Word
You must record your memorable.
• The Home Office will ask you to enter three random characters from this word
whenever you log on.
• Your memorable word must:
• include only letters and numbers
• not contain spaces
• have at least 8 characters (it is not case-sensitive)
• not have a character appearing more than twice
• not have 3 or more numbers in ascending or descending numerical order
• not have 3 or more letters in alphabetic or reverse alphabetic order.

lincoln.england (Uses a character that is not a letter or a
number)

4. Security check
Type the two words and/or numbers in order, exactly as they appear in the box,
separated by a space if necessary. If you are not sure what the words are, either enter
your best guess or click the refresh button.
Press the refresh button to
generate a new word
Press the audio code button
to listen to the words
and/or numbers
5. Terms and conditions
Tick the box when you have read and agreed with the terms and conditions.

7. Click on register.

8. After you click register you will see the following page:

9. Check the email that the Home Office has just sent you.
The email will include a temporary password.
To activate your Home Office account you must press
the link and use YOUR temporary password to log-in.

10. Log-in to your account.
Use the user name you have just
created.
Use the temporary password the
Home Office gave you in the
email they sent.
Press log-in.

11. Type the requested characters from your memorable word.
Read and enter each requested
character carefully.
If you enter the characters
incorrectly the Home Office will
temporarily block your account.
Press confirm identity.

12. Change your temporary password.
You must record your password. You will need to use this each time you log-in
Your new password must:
• Be at least 8 characters long.
• Use letters and numbers.
• Use at least one lower case (small)
letter and one upper case (large)
letter.
Your new password must be different to
your memorable word.
Create a new password for
your account.

Your account has now been created. You do not need to do anything else with your account
until you attend the Visa Workshop. Make sure you have recorded your user name, password
and memorable word and then log out.
Make sure
you log out
of your
account.
If you ever want to change your email,
password or memorable word press
‘my account settings’ and follow the
instructions.
