By ALEX HARDAKER LAST year Rose Bay High School delighted theatre-goers with Wolf Stock — the story of a teenage werewolf. So, how were students going to match that successful production this year? The answer was Gumshoe — a spy musical that included everything from ray guns, scientists, diamonds, spies and detectives as well as a lot of laughs for people of all ages. The story focused on Mac Hunter, a private eye and a bit of a deadbeat. He was accompanied on his adventures by ace reporter Peta Steele from the Chicago Herald. The couple was brought together by the mysterious disappearance of the world’s perfect diamond, the Princess of India, which was intricately linked to the Popular Women’s Front — a terrorist group led by evil Russian, Svetlana Von Bizaro. Everyone involved with Gumshoe put a lot of time and effort into the performance and gave up several Sundays by attending practice sessions at the school. It was a lot of hard work but the end result was worth it. Students staged two successful performances for members of the public at the Rosny College Auditorium on August 10-11. Congratulations to the Rose Bay performance class — we can’t wait to see what they have in store for us next year. How to make a world of difference THIS year Rose Bay High School students have started producing a magazine — Inlook. Inlook is ‘‘for the students by the students’’ and is prepared and published every two months. Highlights include students’ work, school band interviews, comic strips, competitions and much much more. Other items include Shout Out where students relay messages to their friends and Talk on the Side where people randomly answer a question.a The Inlook team includes students from each grade who use some of their class and lunch time to produce the magazine. In fact, each of the 1200 ‘‘children’’ represented a child that dies every hour due to poverty. That’s the whole of Rose Bay High gone in just over 30 minutes. June 29 was Rose Bay’s RU MAD Day? (Are You Making a Difference Day). RU MAD Day combined a free dress day, an assembly which focused on the Oaktree Foundation and informative activities about poverty. Each student cut out two paper children which were added to the chain. That night students also held their school social with the theme ‘‘Make Poverty History’’. All the activities saw students raise $2142 for the Oaktree Foundation while promoting awareness about poverty. Zac Hardaker, Grade 7: Cooking, because we eat! The new kitchen is really cool. Emma Menzies, Grade 8: The guest speakers in assembly — they are really interesting. Justin Dodge, Grade 8: The school production, because the one this year was really good! Kylie Howard, Grade 9: Training to be a peer support leader. It was really fun and helpful in Grade 7. Steffi Koppelmann Grade 10: The Oaktree Day was great! I can’t wait until the leavers’ dinner! The motivation behind this awesome effort by Rose Bay students came when Grade 10 students attended the Step To The Future Conference. It was here that they heard Hugh Evens (the founder of Oaktree) speak about his life and experiences. Hugh believes that young people can make a real difference and he us to do just that.
