Mariner High School Accelerated Opportunities What is the purpose of Early College (formerly Dual Enrollment)? Allows students to take college courses and receive high school and college credit at the same time. Shortens the time necessary for a student to complete the requirements of a high school diploma and a postsecondary degree. What is the cost of Dual Enrollment/Early College? There is no cost to the student for Dual Enrollment/Early College. Tuition is free. Books are provided free to public high school students. Who can participate in Dual Enrollment/Early College? Students must be enrolled in a public school or registered as a home school student within our service district. Students attending a private school in Florida that has an assigned DOE School number. Students in must attain a 3.0 un‐weighted GPA for seniors. Sophomores and juniors* need a 3.5, 2nd semester freshmen are required to have 3.5 un‐weighted, cumulative GPA. *Juniors with 70% of academic classes at honor‐level can qualify with 3/0 GPA. Who can participate in Dual Enrollment/Early College? Students must attain a minimum passing score on the ACT‐E, the SAT‐R, or FCELPT (CPT). Students may retest once on CPT while still in high school. Students must be at least 14 years old. Dual Enrollment/Early College Statistics 32,759 students participated in 2006 They took 113,894 courses and 83% of the time earned an A, B, or C. The typical DE/Early College student took three DE/Early College courses, earning 1.5 high school credits and 9 college hours. Why participate in DE/Early College ? Students earn college credits. Students are more likely to go on to college. DE/Early College eases the transition from high school to college. DE/Early College saves money. It’s possible to come out of the Early College program with one or two years of college already paid for. DE/Early College students graduate earlier and more often.
