2013 marks the 49th annual conference planned by The
Fellowship of American Baptist Musicians. Conferees of all ages
have the opportunity to work with nationally and internationally
renowned clinicians in both ensemble and workshop settings.
Workshops are designed to further educate and train those
involved in church music leadership. In addition to daytime
activities, the conference has six evening concert programs. The
2013 clinicians include: Marty Haugen-worship; Robert Hobbyadult choir; Timothy Waugh-youth choir; Vicki Hancock Wrightchildren’s choir; Anna Laura Page-Handbells; Ernest Grossinstrumental; Jermey Bankson-organ; Jan Corrothers-piano.

are as ABW Ministries: Magdalene
and Thistle Farms Ministry based in
Nashville, TN; Rosalyce Grubbs with

the Awana Bible
Quizzing. Three teams
and coaches participated in the written
exam, multiple choice,
and speed quiz. Two
teams placed fourth and
one placed first. The first
place winners were: Taylor Holman and Savanna Alexander. The fourth
place winners included Mykayli Tucker, Magen DeVore, Alyssa Woodard,
Trevor Morscip & Alysha Littell. Leaders present were: Steve Bowman,
Chuck Richardson, Jacquie and Michael Woodard and Ken McVey,
Commander.

On March 3, the Awana Derby Car
Race was held at Martinsville First
Baptist Church. There were 37
entries. Cars were designed and
painted by the individuals who were
racing. The winners were: Elizabeth
Bixler, Trevor Moscrip and Kayla
Stewart. They were assisted by
Steve Bowman, Chuck Richardson,
and Michael Woodard.

Participates
in Relay for Life
For the second year in a row, Martinsville FBC has a team raising
donations for the Relay for Life. The team is called “The Cancer Crushers.”
Events to this date include a Chili Dinner plus serving breakfast and lunch
during the annual Yard Sale. Martinsville FBC will also hold a Spaghetti
Dinner, Motor-Cycle Ride, Silent Auction and Car Wash to help meet the
goal of $2500 raised for the Relay.
Twenty-five Easter flowers adorned the sanctuary in honor of or in
memory of loved ones. Betsy Carter, a member of the church, recently went
to be with our Lord and Savior. Because Betsy’s favorite part of the worship
service was the Children’s Message, her family donated Easter baskets for
children 12 and under. The children were thrilled! What a wonderful way for
the family to honor Betsy!

property of Vienna
Baptist Church, will
be a place of activity
for all children. The
LifeWorks Playground will have a
poured-in-place
safety surface that will
allow access for
children in wheelchairs or that have
leg braces or walkers. The play
equipment was also specially selected
to offer opportunities of play for all
children including the following
considerations: Autism/Sensory
Processing Disorder, Spina
Bifida, Cerebral Palsy, Down
Syndrome, ADHD, and Visual
Impairment.

playground and many volunteers are
needed to serve on one of eight
teams:

Seymour FBC Updates
• Seymour FBC is currently searching for a Minister of Music. Stephen
Lee, former music minister, is now serving a church in Illinois. Interested parties

• The annual Easter Egg Hunt was held on the March 30, 2013. The
“hunt” was sponsored by the women’s mission groups and enjoyed by all.
• Seymour FBC will be hosting a retirement party for Dan Barringer on
May 18, 2013 from 4-6 in the Fellowship Center of the church with the
program starting at 5 pm.
• Graduation for the preschool will be held in May. We have a great
preschool program each year. 50 children attended this school year!
Columbus FBC Holds Sunday

Worship
Service
On the second Sunday of each month,
Columbus FBC has a Sunday evening
worship called Revision Service. It is an intergenerational service planned by Pastor Dave
Doles with the youth and young adults
assisting. The Revision service grew out of a
need for a second, different type of worship
service and the youth trip to to Quest at Green
Lake last summer. It is usually well attended.
After the service, small groups for children,
youth, and adults meet to reflect about the
service and share their own personal
experiences. It is an upbeat service with lots of
music and an emphasis on an “R” word. The
next service will be held on April 14 and the
word will be “Restore.”
In March, the service was called “Restore and S’mores.” The service
featured Jordan Morris, camp manager at Indian Creek Baptist Camp, and a
special concert with Jon Makiah Thompson. Jordan told stories of restoration
and renewal at camp. He encouraged the
church adults, children, and youth to
participate in the upcoming mini-mission
trip to work at the camp one weekend in
April. Jon Makiah Thompson was
diagnosed with autism as a baby. He did
not speak for many years. His father
bought a key board with thoughts of
learning to play, but soon decided this
was not for him. Jon Makiah was
interested in the key board and suddenly
was playing and found his voice through
music. This is a tremendous story of
restoration and what God can do in one
life. Jon performs concerts and his
parents tell his story and share how God
has blessed Jon Makiah with this gift of
song.

Darrell James, senior pastor of
Culbertson BC, took the initiative and
the pilot program for CLI at his church
in New Albany launched this spring
on April 13th. Currently, there is a
group of senior pastors in the
Southeast Area near Madison, IN
who are coordinating with Region
Staff to start another pilot program of
CLI in Switzerland County. Each of
those pastors are alumni of the CLI
program and know first hand how the
CLI experience can impact a life and
ministry. They want to make that
experience more accessible for the
leaders in their churches and
associations. It is their hope to launch
the first class in the series this fall. The
response to the first two courses at
each new site will determine whether
CLI continues at the Southern
Indiana Satellite locations.
The Church Leadership Institute
(CLI) is a region ministry dedicated
to equipping men and women for
leadership positions in their
churches. Classes are taught by
individuals with the academic
credentials and ministry experience
to make their classes highly
informative and practical. It is
foundational training that every

New Jersey on
a mission trip as
a part of their
Spring Break.
They spent one
night of their trip
at Simpson
Creek Baptist
Church in Bridgeport, WV, where they were met by the youth pastor, Rick
Garavaglia, who provided pizza at midnight and breakfast in the morning.
While in Osbornville, they attended worship with the folks at Osbornville
BC. Some of the work the team did included clearing about 300 yards of
beach front, helping a lady repair the inside of her home, assisting a lady
with moving furniture, rebuilding a fence and cleaning up of debris. Both the
team and those in the
Osbornville BC congregations benefited greatly from
the time spent together. In a

commented: “We ‘pitched our
tent’ among the people and
did the kingdom work of
Christ with them. Many were
Christians, but a few were
not. We will not soon forget
our many new friends on and
near the shores of New Jersey.”

ABWM of Indiana Give to GoodWay W
omen’s Shelter in Lorca,
Women’s
Spain
The ABWM of Indiana sent their
2012 State Project funds to The Good
Way-Women’s Shelter in Lorca,
Spain. They collected $27,535.47 to
help the women in Lorca build a house
to replace the one destroyed by the
May 2011 earthquakes. We praise the
Lord for each of the 5,448 miles that
our family traveled throughout our

Catellier to bring the concern and need
for this Women’s Shelter to the places we
were able to reach. The new house will
have space for 16 women. They had been
serving six women at the time of the
project and are currently serving eight,
which means that two are sleeping in the
living room. Hence, the urgent need they
have for space for more who continue to
seek their support. Thank you, ABWM of
Indiana and the congregations in both
regions that joined this effort to break the
chains and stop the pain of these women
who so desperately needed this new
facility.

Walnut BC (Reelsville) will be staging
an exciting community-wide event at
the Reelsville firehouse. The event
has 3 phases, each of which should

First, the firehouse will be serving a

Luke and Tim Gillespie (Tim is
pastor at Big Walnut) will put on a
table tennis demonstration from 23:30pm. The Gillespie brothers spent
many years as members of the
USTTA and helped promote table
tennis in numerous ABC churches.
Some years ago, they helped
popularize the sport in the Bedford
area, often attracting over 100
participants from the community and
area churches. The Gillespies have
always believed it was ideal for
church recreation as it is inexpensive
and takes up very little space.
“We hope youth groups will attend
