Q: What is BrainStation?
A: BrainStation is an innovative technology school that offers part-time courses in Web
and Mobile Development taught by industry professionals.
Q: Why was BrainStation created?
A: Our world is becoming more and more driven by technology and there are simply not
enough people with the skills to create, control and understand that technology. An
ecosystem that fosters innovation and technology, that attracts the best companies and
brightest minds, requires a supply of talented people with the right skills. We create those
people. And lastly, we created BrainStation to influence positive change in our world by
empowering people to solve meaningful problems with technology.
Q: Where is BrainStation located?
A: We have offices and classrooms located at 639 Queen St W, Toronto, ON M5V 2B7,
54 Fraser Ave, Toronto, ON M6K 1Y7 and 73 Bathurst St, Toronto, ON M5V 2P6.

Q: When was BrainStation founded?
A: BrainStation was founded in September 2013.

Q: How much do courses cost?
A: All of our courses are $3,500 + HST. We offer automatic scholarships to women and
members/veterans of the Canadian Forces.
Q: Do you offer financing options?
A: We do offer financing for those who qualify. Our goal is to make these courses as
accessible as possible.
Q: Who teaches at BrainStation?
A: BrainStation’s courses are created and taught by industry professionals of diverse
backgrounds who are passionate about educating and empowering others. We believe the
best teachers are the people building the technology we use on a daily basis. They bring

Q: Who takes BrainStation’s courses?
A: Men & women, young & old, beginners & novices, students, entrepreneurs and working
professionals. Our student body is extremely diverse, demonstrating that there is interest
in learning about technology across a large portion of the population. And, most
importantly, that anyone can learn these skills.
Q: What is the student to teacher ratio?
A: We try and keep the student to teacher ratio as low as possible to ensure that
students get the attention they need, and our educators can build strong, meaningful
relationships with students. Currently that ratio is 6:1.

Q: What skills are taught at BrainStation?
A: It depends on the course. Currently we offer 3 courses:
Intro to Web Development: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, jQuery, Responsive Design, Grid
Based Design & Tyography, SEO & Analytics, UX & UI, Popular APIs (Facebook, Twitter).
Programming with Rails: Git & Source Control, Ruby on Rails, Software Architecture, Agile
Development, Databases, Computer Science, Test Driven Development, Popular APIs
(Facebook, Twitter).
iOS Development: Objective-C, Cocoa Touch, View & View Controllers, Table Views,
Touch Gestures, Navigation & Tab Bar Controllers, Core Data Basics, Core Animation,
Performance & Debugging.
Beyond hard skills, we focus heavily on teaching people how to learn. By building habits
and routines aligned with independent, self-directed learning, our students leave the
classroom prepared to continue learning on their own. In today’s constantly evolving
economy, we believe the ability to learn is the most important skill of all.
We’re always expanding our course offering.
Q: What is the skill level of students coming into BrainStation?
A: Students enter BrainStation from all walks of life, each bringing their own level of
expertise. Some of our courses are more beginner friendly (Intro to Web Development),
while others are for those with a coding background (iOS Development).

Q: How long are the courses?
A: All courses are 12 weeks, part-time, on evenings and/or weekends.
Q: What is the time commitment for BrainStation’s courses?
A: There are 6 hours of class time and approximately 5-10 hours of self-driven learning
each week.
