What is the Texas Legal Protection Plan?
The Texas Legal Protection Plan (TLPP) is the largest, oldest and most comprehensive
legal program in Texas. TLPP was created in 1972 by the State Bar of Texas as a means
of better meeting the legal needs for Texans.

Why would I need a legal plan?
Like all insurance policies, members or policyholders pay premiums in the anticipation
of an accident or an emergency occurring. We carry health insurance, home owners
insurance, car insurance even life insurance to help mitigate the costs should we get
sick, have a car accident, a house fire or a fatality.
The Texas Legal Protection Plan works in the same way. Imagine the costs of trying to
regain your identity after it has been stolen, the costs associated with a divorce or
modifying child support or alimony, the thousands of dollars it would take to prepare a
complete and executable Will? What about the costs associated with an adoption,
expunging a prior record, being sued by a credit card company, or even going through
probate. Legal issues are quite common and very expensive to resolve.

Unlike all other legal plans, TLPP is a nonprofit, member-based organization that relies solely on membership dues.
TLPP is 100% member focused. TLPP’s Board of Directors is appointed by the State Bar of Texas’ Board of Directors
and regulated by the Texas Department of Insurance. TLPP doesn’t have individual contractors “selling” our service
and ALL of our attorneys are located and licensed to practice law in Texas. TLPP is accountable and transparent.

and other areas of law. These engagements last approximately an hour and are free of charge. TLPP partners with provider attorneys to provide the education.
