Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC)! As your student embarks on some of the most
exciting and important years of their young life, there are many factors that will make the experience that
much greater. Part of that experience is a UTSC TCard Plus Meal Plan. We would like you to consider the
purchase of a TCard Plus Meal Plan, which not only saves money, but also provides many benefits. Some
of which include:





All meal purchases are tax-free. This will help your student save 13% on all campus meal purchases.
Merchants located in the main cafeteria (H-Wing Marketplace) are offering an additional 5% off to
meal plan users, which results into a total savings of 18% only for meal plan users!
The meal plan works like a debit card, which provides your student with the flexibility and security
of not having to carry cash on campus.
The meal plan does not expire. Any unused money is refundable and can also be carried over.
The meal plan can only be used for food and is reloadable – if they run out, you can re-load it.

WHAT IS TCARD PLUS?
Each student has or will soon receive a TCard - their official University of Toronto ID card. The TCard Plus
program allows students to use their TCard to pay for food, printing, copying, purchases at the UTSC
Bookstore (including textbooks), purchases at vending machines, purchases at departments and more. Once
funds are loaded up to their account, students simply swipe their TCard at participating merchants and
departments to purchase items/services. They can view all their transactions online and if they lose their
card, the funds are safe once they deactivate their card. Any remaining balance will be transferred to their
replacement card.
WHY BUY?
Parents of undergraduate students have overwhelmingly indicated their preference of providing their
students with a meal plan which provides the student with more time to focus on their studies, experience
university life, manage their academic deadlines, and spend less time trying to buy groceries and cook
between classes and exams. Furthermore, students themselves have indicated that meal plans are more
convenient as they do not have time to return to their residences during classes to cook, which often results
in students skipping their meals or having a poor diet. (Most of all, students love the fact that there are no
dishes to clean)!! By signing up for a meal plan students will enjoy:

MEAL PLAN OPTIONS AND TBUCKS


There are three different tax-free meal plans to choose from depending on the appetite of the student
and whether or not they will be returning home on weekends (please consult the attached brochure
for meal plan details)
You will notice that each plan includes a separate account called TBucks. TBucks can also be used
at all food merchants; however there are no tax-savings associated with TBucks. In addition, TBucks
can be used to purchase items from vending machines, participating departments, at the UTSC
convenience store and at the Bookstore for purchasing textbooks, supplies and clothing. Most
importantly, TBucks are used as the only method of payment for copying and printing at the
campus.

$300 in TBucks for textbook purchases at the UTSC Bookstore and you will receive:

Do I have an online account?
Yes. You will be able to access your TCard online account by visiting the eAccounts portal
(www.utsc.utoronto.ca/tcardplus). Once you login with your UTORid, you will get access to your
transaction history, be able to load additional funds and report your card lost/stolen.

What happens if I lose my card?

If you lose your card or it is stolen, it is very important for you to immediately report it lost/stolen through
the eAccounts portal (www.utsc.utoronto.ca/tcardplus). Your money in your TCard Plus account(s) is
protected from the time you report your card lost/stolen.
Does my Meal Plan expire?
Due to government tax regulations, Meal Plans can only be used for a specified period of time. Thus Meal Plans do not
carry over from year to year. You can transfer any unused Meal Plan funds at the end of the academic year (or semester if
you have purchased a Semester Meal Plan or month if you have purchased a Value Meal Plan) into your TBucks account.
Some restrictions apply. Please consult the Meal Plan policy for refund and transfer guidelines.
Do my TBucks expire?
TBucks do not expire as long as you remain an active student, staff or faculty member of the University of Toronto. If you
are graduating or not planning to use your TBucks for an extended period of time, it is your responsibility to exhaust the
funds on your card or to follow the appropriate refund procedures. If your TBucks account has no activity for a period of
24 months, the University shall deactivate your account and any remaining funds will become the property of the
University.
Can I refund my Meal Plan or TBucks?
Yes, your Meal Plan and TBucks are refundable with some conditions. Please consult the Meal Plan and TBucks policies
for refund guidelines.
