Vitamin
10 CF subjects ages 8 to 45 years old were given 10ml of the prototype liquid for 56 days following a washout
period of 21 days. Plasma was obtained at baseline, 1, 2, 4, and 8 weeks and assayed for beta-carotene,
gamma-tocopherol, retinal, CoQ10, and for safety parameters. Pulmonary function was measured and
induced sputum was assayed for markers of inflammation and quantitative bacterial counts. The formulation
safely and effectively increased plasma levels of important fat-soluble nutrients and antioxidants.
Improvements in antioxidant plasma levels were associated with reductions in airway inflammation in CF
patients.
Study B: Sagel, SD, Sontag MK, Anthony MM, Emmett P, Papas KA. Effect of an antioxidant-rich in

14 CF subjects were given AquADEKs® softgels for 12 weeks in this open-label study. AquADEKs® increased
systemic antioxidant levels while maintaining Vitamin A levels in the normal range and improved but did not
completely normalize vitamin D and K status in all subjects. Increased B-carotene levels were associated with
improved growth parameters.

50 patients with CF and 21 healthy children were given vitamin supplementation for 12 weeks. Patients with
CF initially showed increased levels of oxidative stress over the control group, which was reduced following
supplementation with AquADEKs®.

Improved Absorption of
Vitamins A, D, E & K in AquADEKs®
AquADEKs® is a multivitamin and mineral supplement designed to help increase absorption of fat-soluble vitamins A,D,E,K. AquADEKs® is
formulated to meet specific nutritional needs of certain conditions that cause malabsorption of fat-soluble vitamins, such as pancreatic
insufficiency and/or a diminished bile acid pool. Its development was supported by a Therapeutic Development Grant from the Cystic Fibrosis
Foundation.
In people with normal absorption, enzymes from the pancreas and bile from the liver help enable fat-soluble vitamins to to be used by the
body. AquADEKs® uses a microsphere technology to aid absorption of fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, K even when their absorption from food is
impaired. This technology does more than break the larger fat globules into smaller globules. AquADEKs® actually aids absorption of the
fatsoluble vitamins by enclosing them inside a micelle.
