kindergarten through high school students
during the 2012-2013 school year! The JA
Bowl-A-Thon is a fun-filled way to help raise
money to support Junior Achievement’s
local programs in financial literacy, work
readiness, and entrepreneurship.
Annually, more than 2,500 people from local businesses come
together to make a positive impact in the life of a child right
here in your community. Today’s students are tomorrow’s

JA Bowl-A-Thon: The Details
What is the JA Bowl-A-Thon?
Bowl-A-Thons are a company teambuilding event and good cause rolled into one. Employees
strengthen their business relationships while supporting Junior Achievement’s outreach to the
students that receive our programs in financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship. It
is a concrete way to make a difference in the your community while making a difference in the
workplace.
How Does the Bowl-A-Thon Work?
At a mutually agreed upon location and time (coordinated between your company, JA, and a
bowling center), your employees will enjoy the camaraderie of bowling with their friends while
raising money for JA. Teams of your employees work together to make this event a success.
Individual bowlers seek donations to JA from family, friends, and coworkers.
THE BASICS
For a $20 registration fee, bowlers receive two hours of bowling, shoe rental, beverage tickets, event t-shirt,
chances at attendance prizes, other giveaways, and fun.
Bowlers set a fundraising goal of at least $100 that goes to support JA’s programs.
Participants register and use the JA fundraising website. Fundraising can be as easy as sending out an e-mail to
family, friends, and coworkers; and by posting a link on your favorite social media sites.
JA is with you every step of the way to make sure that it is a fun and successful event for all.
JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT
Coordinates the event with company coordinator and bowling center
Provides materials and support throughout the process
Emcees the bowling event and provides giveaways, t-shirts, and prizes for those
attending
COMPANY COORDINATORS
Act as the liaison with JA staff
Motivates bowlers and promotes the event within their company
Recruits and motivates Team Captains
Collects and tracks registration fees and donations from Team Captains
TEAM CAPTAINS
Recruit four people to join your five person bowling team. Teams can be coworkers, family, future family, friends,
future friends, and others. (Non-bowlers can be a part of the team too.)
Motivate team members to achieve the fundraising goal of $100 per bowler, or more!
Register the team online and encourage bowlers to use the JA fundraising website
Collects registration fees from bowlers and donations from all team members for remittance to JA
BOWLERS
Pre-pay the $20 registration fee — this only covers the costs associated with the
bowling event.
Reach out in order to secure at least $100 worth of donations using the JA Intelis
fundraising website, or simply by collecting checks or cash from donors.
Fundraisers that generate at

eligible for prizes during and
at the end of the JA Bowl-AThon season.

Junior Achievement of Greater St. Louis (JASTL) is the fifth
largest Junior Achievement operation in the United States.
Our programs educate young people in work readiness,
entrepreneurship, and financial literacy with hands-on,
engaging programs.

A Brief History
Junior Achievement (JA) was founded in 1919 by Theodore
Vail president of American Telephone & Telegraph;
Horace Moses, president of Strathmore Paper Co.; and
Senator Murray Crane of Massachusetts. Its first program,
the JA Company Program, was offered to high school
students on an after-school basis. Since then JA has
expanded to include over two dozen programs that teach
financial and economic concepts. Junior Achievement of
Greater St. Louis has served hundreds of thousands of
area students for nearly seventy years since its inception
in 1943.
Junior Achievement’s Outreach
Junior Achievement of Greater St. Louis (JASTL) is
continually expanding its student outreach. We provide
programs to students in kindergarten through high school
in over 800 schools. School districts in urban, suburban,
and rural areas in 27 counties in eastern Missouri and 18
counties in southeastern Illinois participate. JASTL will
reach more than 140,000 students this school year in
public, private, and parochial schools. The programs are
taught by more than 7,000 trained volunteers.

sessions include hands-on activities
that cover business concepts and skills

The Need
JASTL is in need of both funding and volunteers in order to

bring these programs to area schools at no cost to the

materials and implementation of the JA programs.
Volunteers work directly with the teachers and students
to bring their personal experiences, along with the
program materials, to life in the classroom.
Not-for-Profit
Junior Achievement is a 501 (c) (3) Not-for-Profit
organization that relies solely on donations received from
community leaders, businesses, individuals, and
foundations. in addition to making a direct donation, some
ways to help include participating in special events such as
our JA Bowl-A-Thon, JA Trivia Night, Golf outings, Hall of
Fame, and Gala.
