Bob Drake’s Design Team pays strict attention to detail in
reproducing authentic Ford parts. Before we started making
the massive rubber molds, we tested different machining
techniques for perfectly reproducing the original step surfaces.
Our engineers took no shortcuts in making each detail perfect.
After running comparisons between CNC milling (computer
numerical control) and EDM (electro-discharge machining), we
chose the EDM method. This revolutionary milling technique is
the perfect tooling method for making finely detailed pyramids
and ribs in the high quality weather resistant rubber. The
precise cutting is made by micro-sized electrical arcs.
2 Perfect Board to Body Fit
When you install our boards, you’ll appreciate the fact that we
made them to FIT! This feature allows the board to correctly
mesh with the body for a fit that would meet the standards of
the Ford factory.

6 Rubber Vulcanized Over Steel
Bob Drake has used superior quality, weather and chemical
resistant EPDM rubber for these boards. It has the correct
look, feel and finish of the real thing, with a velvety smooth
matte finish.
7 Front Rim Contours
Precision molded ridges and valleys match the superior
traction and look of the ’32 boards, with the accurate mold
parting line hand-trimmed to perfection.
8 3-Year Warranty
All of our 1932-40 running boards are warranted against
material and factory defects, just as other Bob Drake
rubber parts.
9 Superior Protective Packaging
Other manufacturers claim heavy gauge construction. For
Bob Drake, that’s a given. We exactly duplicate Ford’s sturdy
steel panel and braces to get the tough rigidity of the originals.
Then we zinc-plate the boards for many years of corrosion free
service. The underside can be painted black or left as is.
What good is the perfect part if it gets damaged during
shipping? We’ve gone overboard here! The running boards
are packed into bags, then inserted into heavy Styrofoam “U”
channels that wrap and protect the edges, and then packed
into a sturdy corrugated carton. You’ll receive perfect boards!

Hand Polishing
Each is high-pressure molded, one
at a time. To create running boards
that perfectly match the originals,
it requires many pieces of tooling,
all made from huge slabs of highgrade tool steel which is precisely
cut based on precise digital tracings
which produce pin-point accuracy.
The molds are then hand-finished to
include every original detail. It’s the
only way to do it right, as there are no
short cuts used in our costly process.

Thick Steel
Extreme pressure is applied to
shape the heavy running board sheet
metal in this large hydraulic press.
Seen here are the huge dies used to make our
1933-34 running board “inserts”, meaning the inner
steel which is then carefully trimmed and placed into
the rubber mold where high-grade rubber is then
vulcanized over the top and sides of the insert.
The undersides each feature
the original style cross-braces
with all mounting holes in the
original locations. Thicknesses
of the steel and rubber match
the original Ford units. All of
our boards have vulcanizing
holes as original.
