delivery can also be checked via track and trace.

Return receipt, personal delivery and cash on
delivery
Further additional services are available for registered
mail:
Return receipt: With return receipt, you receive a
written confirmation of when and to whom the
mail was delivered. Apply the note “Return
receipt” above the address and enclose a filled-out
return receipt. Return receipt forms are available
at any post office. The return receipt will be sent
to you after delivery by A Mail.
Personal delivery: If your consignment is only to
be delivered to a specific person, send it with the
additional personal delivery service. Specify
“Personal delivery” above the address. Personal
delivery mail can only be addressed to individuals
capable of exercising judgement; the first name
must be written out. Mail cannot be addressed to
the business addresses of individuals. In this case,
Swiss Post assumes no guarantee for the personal
delivery of the mail to the required addressee and
delivers the mail to an authorized person. Notes
such as “Personal”, “Private” or “Personal
delivery” on mail not sent as registered mail will
not be taken into consideration.
Cash on delivery: When mailing with cash
on delivery, you obtain your money easily and
securely. Make a note of the cash on delivery
amount above the address on the envelope and
fill out the cash on delivery inpayment slip. Cash
on delivery mail can be sent up to a collection sum
of CHF 10,000.00. The amount will be collected
when the mail is delivered and credited to your
post office account or the post office account of
your bank.

Preparation
This is how letters with proof of delivery must be
posted:
The envelope must be sealed.
The closure seals or adhesive strips must be
initialled by the sender or stamped by the post
office.
The consignment must bear the sender’s details
Return without prior order
You pay the postage again for the return of non
franked registered mail.
For registered mail with the additional return receipt
service, you pay the difference in postage between
the return and the paid return receipt surcharge.
Advantages
Mail is only delivered against signature. The delivery can be legally proven. The retention period is seven days. If it should be extended on the basis of an order from the recipient, the sender will be notified. Mail can be tracked around the clock:
swisspost.ch/trackandtrace
Delivery to home addresses takes place from
Monday to Friday on the next working day.
Return with prior order
If you would like your letters with return receipt to be
returned to you unregistered after unsuccessful
delivery, you can apply the following note above the
address:
Return by A Mail in case of unsuccessful delivery
Return by B Mail in case of unsuccessful delivery
Please note that the return will no longer be recorded
by track and trace. For the non-franked return of
letters with proof of delivery with a prior order “Return
by B Mail”, you pay the basic price for bulk mailings
of the relevant format.

Return receipt and personal delivery
Additional proof of delivery and personal delivery
For even more security: send a registered letter with return receipt and receive
a written confirmation of delivery. If mail is sent with personal delivery, it is only
delivered to the addressee.
The additional return receipt service is only possible
in conjunction with the additional registered mail
service. “Return receipt” must be specified above
the address and a filled-out return receipt must be
enclosed. Return receipt forms are available at all
post offices. The return receipt will be sent
to you after delivery (incl. delivery notes) by A Mail.
Notes
The additional personal delivery service can only
be used in conjunction with the registered letter.
The additional return receipt and personal delivery
services can also be combined.
Return receipt forms are available at any post
office.
Personal delivery
If you want to be sure that your letter will only be
delivered to a specific person, Swiss Post offers you
this option with personal delivery.
Personal delivery mail can only be addressed to
individuals capable of sound judgement. For this,
the first name must be written out. Mail cannot be
addressed to the business addresses of individuals. In
this case, Swiss Post does not guarantee personal
delivery to the requested addressee. At best, it will
deliver the mail to an authorised person. Notes such
as “Personal”, “Private” or “Personal delivery” on
consignments that are not registered mail will not be
taken into consideration
The additional personal delivery service can only be used in conjunction with the registered letter.
Specify “Personal delivery” above the address.
The additional personal delivery and return receipt
services can be combined.

Receiving letters
Letters reach their destination: daily and reliably
The mail carriers ensure reliable mail delivery all over Switzerland. Valid addressing
and reliable addresses the building mailboxes are essential. Non-deliverable mail is
returned to the sender.
If mail carriers cannot find a mailbox that corresponds
to the address and if no orders are available for
forwarding, poste restante or sub-addresses for this
address, they will search internal postal directories for
possible appropriate recipients for A Mail letters, mail
with proof of delivery and B Mail individual con
signments. If no recipient can be clearly determined,
the mail must be returned to the sender.
Restricted delivery
A delivery service is basically provided to all residential
areas that are lived in all year round. In some special
cases, a location specified by Swiss Post is designated
as the delivery location:
For permanently lived-in, remote individual homes,
the recipient will identify a suitable delivery location
on the carrier’s route. Letters and parcels without
proof of delivery and collection invitations for
other mail is then sent to this location.
For holiday homes and weekend homes
For mail sent to residents of old people’s homes
and similar institutions
For mail sent to educational institutions,
universities, hospitals and similar institutions and
their sub-departments
For mail sent to persons who are temporarily
staying at a specific location (hotels, campsites,
hospitals, youth homes or prisons, etc.)
For mail sent to persons participating in trade fairs
as exhibitors at a trade fair
If the mailboxes and storage boxes are not set up
in accordance with the regulations
If the weight of the consignment exceeds 5 kg and
transportation is particularly difficult
If the amount of one or several payment orders
exceeds CHF 10 ,000.00 or if the delivery of cash
amounts entails increased risk
If the delivery entails significant difficulties or
hazards, e.g. insufficient snow clearance or vicious
dogs
Refused acceptance
Mail that has been refused or that remains uncollected
will be charged to the sender when returned:
At the price of an A Mail individual item
At the basic price of a B Mail item
With refused acceptance of such returns, the costs
for disposal will also be claimed.
