So! You're considering joining the Roland Family. Before you get a new Printer you're
going to want to know a whole lot of things. This sheet should help you find out why
you are in for a wonderful and rewarding experience.
Why roland?
The xc-540
For 25 years Roland has been on the
forefront of the revolution in printing
technology. With the aim of making easier,
better and faster solutions for you- the future
Roland owner- they've managed to put the
power of you're creativity in your hands.
The XC-540 gives you the best of Roland all rolled into
one. The latest generation of inkjet technology
combined with the most accurate print & cut
combination ever. This machine is a race car with up to
41sqm per hour. The 6 colours reproduce colour
without any grainy effect.
Not only does Roland have a heritage of high
quality machines but they also look out for the
actual operator and the environment. Ecosol
Max inks are, unlike many other wide-format
digital printers, safe to use and odorless. You
don't need to add an air scrubber to draw out
the harsh solvents in order to print safely.
Here is a list of the features:
Prints and cuts from 260mm to 1371mm
Super fine resolution of 1440 dots per inch
Can print up to 41 square meters per hour.
The whole machine is 2694mm wide, 1065mm
deep and 1260 high.
Can cut up to 300mm a second.
Run from any networked PC via Ethernet.
Prints tested by Roland to last 3 years outdoors
with no lamination.
Quadralign® realignment perfectly positions
your print after lamination for cutting.
Warns you if the ink is low and pauses the job
for you to replace the cartridge.
Roland also has the patent on the Print & Cut
combination so you don't have to load your
job into another machine just to get the shape
you really want.

and colour precision is maximised.
What else can
you use it for?
You probably already have a fair idea of what the
Roland XC-540 will do for you but there are so
many other great uses for this machine depending
on the media you use to print:
Vinyl/PVC - Printing onto adhesive film allows you
to put pretty full colour pictures onto hundreds of
different things - sign boards, cars, bikes, shop
windows, your computer and hopefully even you
own private jet.
PVC/Banner Material - From desktop sized pop
ups to building sized billboards, roll ups, drops and
hanging banners - you can print durable, colour
fast graphics.
VideoFlex/ Poly Flex/ Heat-transfer - Print and
Cut your design on this soft or flocked media that
has a unique adhesive that bonds under heat to
fabric. Make your own tee-shirts, caps or fashion.
PET/Clear Films - Printing onto the back of a clear
film with a white or backlit laminate creates images
that look good enough to eat for menu boards.
Coated Paper - Print high resolution, colour
accurate photos and artwork onto a range of
coated paper for indoor use, scrapbooks or
framing.
Printable Fabrics - Flags, Banners or table cloths
- you can even print your own pillow slips.
Other - Printing onto some of these or many other
polymers will allow you to push your print output as
far as your imagination can take you*.
*We explicitly take no responsibility if you try to
print tattoos on your arm with the XC-540.
What do you need?
This printer is pretty hardy. It does, however, want
to sit on a stable, level floor and not get colder than
20° or hotter than 32°.
We recommend that you get a dedicated PC to run
it with at least the following:
Windows XP professional, a Pentium 4 2.0Ghz
processor, 1 Gb of RAM and 100 Gb of free hard
drive space on C:/. Sorry Apple Mac users… The
RIP software only runs on PC.
You need a Static Network so please ask your IT
guy to set that up for us before we get there.
You will need a graphics application - Corel
11/12/X3, Freehand MX or Illustrator CS/CS2
The printer also needs a power connection.
What makes it worth it?
Now we're down to the bottom line… Will a Roland
XC-540 make me famously rich?
It's strictly against the law to actually print your own
money but what you will be doing is just short of that.
To print a job for someone costs you Ink + Media
(vinyl or whatever) + the cost of your machine
+ labour.
Cost of ink:
Ink comes in 440cc cartridges at R 787-00 each (ex
VAT). You need 6 colours.
Typically a print job will use R18-00 to R20-00 worth
of ink for every square meter you print.
Cost of media:
The price of media can vary between R10 and R150
per m² depending on the application and quality but
for our calculations let us work on R36 per m².
Cost of your machine:
While everyone uses there machine differently we
need a figure to use for our calculations so lets take a
popular monthly installment (60 months 15%
escalation) and divide it by what you can print in a
standard 160 hour month.
Installment: R3970
Prints per month 1600 m²
Cost: R2-50 / m²
So excluding the cost of the labour and your other
overheads your print cost is
R20 (ink)
+ R36 (media)
+ R2-50 (amortising the machine)
= R58-50 / m²
The bottom of the range commercial rates for
printing currently sit at about R180 / m² so you should
make at least R121 / m².
Blades should last about 4 000 000mm and
cost R 108-00 (ex VAT)

We offer you 2 options;
Basic Service Plan
What's the damage? R500pm
This option is for you users that want the

competitors' call out fee is somewhere around
R350 per call out, and R250 per hour labour. And
shweeet bonus from seethrough; on this option our
technical department works until 8pm! So Friday
4:45pm calls to “no answering” back up providers
are a thing of the past.

worry about the nitty gritty's of running it- ever. This

more you know the more power you have in your
hands and the more successful you will be.
And, if you are a success then Seethrough is a
success.
AND what now?
Well, the price quoted is valid for 14 days, so the next step is to gather up some money and get it into our account. If
you're applying for our rental option it's the financing institutions problem. We accept EFT (Seethrough Digital FNB
Centurion Code 261550 acc: 62111230489 please fax or email proof of payment), Bank Guaranteed Cheque, Credit
Card or cold hard Cash. Once you've paid you will get your machine within 4 or 5 working days. This is subject to stock
availability so give us a tinkle to check. We'll ask you a few questions first to find out about the place you plan to put the
machine. If we need a crane to get it there then you need to pay for that, no tree-houses please.
