Why my Wireless Laptop can not connect to the Edimax
wireless router
This FAQ applies to the following models:
All series of the Edimax wireless access point or router, and the Laptop
with built-in Intel wireless card
Introduction:
For most of the cases, your wireless laptop can connect to the wireless
router regardless of Edimax wireless router or any other brands. But for some
cases, your wireless connection may fail to do so, mainly because of the
out-dated wireless card driver.
Edimax has noticed from the global user experience that there are reports
about the compatibility issue between the Wireless laptop (with built-in Intel
wirelss card using the wireless chipset, Intel Pro 2200B/G) and our wireless
router.
The solution for this annoyance is simple: just update the Intel wireless card
driver (The driver is the software component that make the wireless card work
with your Laptop operation system, like Windows XP, Vista or Mac). As shownin
the illustrations (Figure-1 & Figure-2) below, the laptop with out-dated wireless
driver has trouble connecting to the wireless router (even the laptop you bought
yesterday may come with the old driver a year ago), after patching with the latest
driver comes with the successful wireless connection.
Before you start to update the Intel wireless card driver, you can check
whether the driver issue date is really obsolete
If the driver is issued before the year 2007, it’s strongly suggested the
latest wireless driver be patched. The next step will show you how to do the
driver update. The following is the information page derived from the Intel
wireless driver dated on May 4 2006. Apparently, a driver update is necessary for
the optimal wirelss performance.
(For how to know the wireless driver date, please follow the steps below:
Click on the Start menu, and then click on the Run option.
When the “Run” window appears, input control ncpa.cpl into the “Open” field.
3. After the “Network and Dial up Connections” or “Network Connections” window opens,
right click on the Wireless Network Connection which is the Intel wireless driver icon.
