NOTES
Water, oil, grease, etc. create slippery conditions. Floor applications with exposure to these conditions require extra caution in
product selection. Not for use on ramps.
For additional information, refer to “Factors to Consider” at http://americanolean.com/factors-to-consider.cfm.
Since there is shade variation in all natural products, the tile and trim supplied for your particular installation may not match these
samples. Final selection should be made from actual tiles and trim and not from tile and trim samples or color reproductions.
Manufactured in accordance with ANSI A137.1 standards.
High shade variation is a part of the beauty of this product. To achieve the maximum intended results, tile should be pulled from
multiple cartons and placement decided upon prior to installation.
Naturally, many of our products can help you earn LEED™ credits.

Surface Preparation
All surfaces should be between 40°F (4°C) and 90°F (32°C) and
structurally sound, clean and free of all dirt, oil, grease, paint,
concrete sealers or curing compounds. Rough or uneven concrete
surfaces should be made smooth with Latex Portland Cement
Underlayment to provide a wood float (or better) finish. Dry, dusty
concrete slabs or masonry should be dampened and excess water
swept off. Installation may be made on a damp surface. New
concrete slabs shall be damp cured and 28 days old before
application. There is no minimum cure time for concrete slabs when
mortar is mixed with latex additive.
All slabs must be plumb and true to within 1/4" (6 mm) in 10 ft
(3 m). Expansion joints shall be provided through the tile work from
all construction or expansion joints in the substrate. Follow ANSI
specification A108.01-3.7 “Requirements for Movement Joints:
Preparations by Other Trades” or TCNA detail EJ-171 “Movement
Joints—Vertical & Horizontal”. Do not cover expansion joints with
mortar.

Application
Apply mortar to substrate with flat side of trowel, pressing firmly to
work into surface. Comb on additional mortar with the notched side,
use 1/2" x 1/2" (12 mm x 12 mm) or 3/4" (18 mm) half loop trowel.
Spread as much mortar as can be covered with tile in 15–20 minutes.
Back butter large > 8" x 8" (>200 mm x 200 mm) irregular
backed tiles to provide full bedding and firm support. Place tiles into
wet, sticky mortar and beat in using a beating block and
rubber mallet to embed tile and to adjust level. Check mortar for
complete coverage periodically removing a tile and inspecting
bedding mortar transfer onto back of tile. If mortar is skimmed over
(not sticky) remove and replace with fresh mortar.
Grouting
Grout installation after a minimum of 24 hours curing time at 70°F
(21°C). Grout with SPECTRALOCK® PRO Premium Grout†,
SPECTRALOCK® PRO Grout†, PERMACOLOR® GroutΛ mixed with

-----------------------------------------------XI. Toxicology Information------------------------------------------------Inhalation; Breathing silica dust may not cause noticeable injury or illness even though permanent
lung damage may be occurring. Inhalation of dust may have the following serious chronic health
effects:
Silicosis:
Excessive inhalation of respirable crystalline silica dust may cause a progressive, disabling and
sometimes fatal lung disease called silicosis. Symptoms include cough, shortness of breath.
Wheezing, non-specific chest illness and reduced pulmonary function. This disease is exacerbated
by smoking. Individuals with silicosis are predisposed to develop mycobacterial infections,
(tuberculous and non-tuberculous) and fungal infections. Inhalation of air with a very high
concentration of respirable silica dust can cause the most serious forms of silicosis in a matter of
months or a few years. Some epidemiologic studies have concluded that there is significant risk of
developing silicosis even at airborne exposure levels that are equal to the recommended NIOSH,
REL, the ACGlH TLV, the OSHA PEL, and the MSHA Exposure Limit.
Then: is some evidence that breathing respirable crystalline silica or the disease silicosis is
associated with an increased incidence of significant disease endpoints such as scleroderma (an
immune system disorder manifested by fibrosis of the lungs. skin and other internal organs)
rheumatoid arthritis. systemic lupus, erythematosus, sarcoidosis, chronic bronchitis, chronic
obstructive puImonary disease (COPD). emphysema. chonic kidney disease and end-stage renal
disease.

8. MAINTENANCE
LATICRETE® and LATAPOXY® grouts require routine cleaning with a
neutral pH soap and water. All other LATICRETE and LATAPOXY
materials require no maintenance but installation performance and
durability may depend on properly maintaining products
supplied by other manufacturers.
Mixing
Place clean, potable water into a clean pail. Add LATICRETE 253
Gold. Use approximately 5.5 qts (5.2 ℓ) of water for 50 lbs
(22.7 kg) of powder. Mix by hand or with a slow speed mixer to a
smooth, trowelable consistency. Allow mortar to slake for 5–10
minutes. Remix without adding any more water or powder. During
use, stir occasionally to keep mix fluffy. Do not temper with water.
9. TECHNICAL SERVICES
Application
Apply mortar to the substrate with the flat side of the trowel,
pressing firmly to work into surface. Comb on additional mortar with
the notched side.
Note: Use the proper sized notched trowel to ensure full bedding of
the tile. Spread as much mortar as can be covered with tile in 15–20
minutes. Back butter large tiles >8" x 8" (>200 mm x 200 mm)
to provide full bedding and firm support. Place tiles into wet, sticky
mortar and beat in using a beating block and rubber mallet to embed
tile and adjust level. Check mortar for complete coverage by
periodically removing a tile and inspecting bedding mortar transfer
onto back of tile. If mortar is skinned over (not sticky), remove and
replace with fresh mortar.

3. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
1500 Sanded Grout is a premium, factory prepared grout designed to
be mixed with water. 1500 Sanded Grout is formulated from a blend
of high strength portland cement, graded aggregates, polymers and
color-fast pigments and provides a grout joint that is dense, hard and
durable.
Uses
 For grout joint widths of 1/16" (1.5 mm) up to 3/8" (9 mm).
Advantages
 Exceeds ANSI A118.6 Specifications.
 Mix with water, or for improved performance fortify
with 1776 Grout Enhancer which contains Microban® AntiMicrobial Protection.
 Designed for exterior and interior use - ideal for both heavy duty
use outdoors and for long lasting beauty indoors.
 Uniform color - Grout colors are specially blended to be uniform
in color.
 Available in a range of exciting colors that should satisfy even
the most discriminating tastes.
 Part of a complete system that includes materials for every
aspect of a tile installation to ensure quality and long lasting
performance.
Shelf Life
Factory sealed containers of this product are guaranteed to be of first
quality for the period of time listed below if stored off the ground in a
dry area.
10 lb (4.5 kg) cartons – two (2) years
25 lb (11.3 kg) bags – one (1) year*
50 lb (22.7 kg) bags – one (1) year*
* High humidity will reduce the shelf life of bagged product.
Limitations
 Adhesives/mastics, mortars and grouts for ceramic tile,
pavers, brick and stone are not replacements for
waterproofing
membranes.
When
a
waterproofing
membrane is required, use a Waterproofing Membrane (see
Section 10 FILING SYSTEM).
 Not for use with absorbent tile. For absorbent tile and polished
marble use 1600 Unsanded Grout.
 DO NOT use for chemical resistance. Use SPECTRALOCK®
2000 IG when chemical resistance is required.
 DO NOT use acid to clean colored grout joints.
 Job site conditions will affect the final color of colored grouts.
Try a small test area to determine your results before grouting
the entire installation.
 Certain types of tile are more absorbent than others and will trap
color pigment during grouting.
 Prior to grouting, test for absorption of color pigment. Porous
tiles will need to be sealed prior to grouting.
 Selecting Other Grouting Materials: LATICRETE has grouting
materials designed for every use. For installations that require
high strength and chemical resistance choose SPECTRALOCK
2000 IG. This product is ideal for installations where a stain
resistant colorfast grout is desired.
 1500 Sanded Grout is designed to be mixed with either water or
1776 Grout Enhancer. Do not mix other grout additives with this
product. Use of other grout additives may result in color
variation and reduced product performance and will void all
LATICRETE warranties.

5. INSTALLATION
Surface Preparation
Before starting to grout, remove spacers and debris in grout joints
and remove dust and dirt using a wet sponge. Do not leave water
standing in joints. Substrate temperature must be between 40°F
(4°C) and 90°F (32°C). Apply grout release or sealer if necessary.
Refer to TDS 400 "Grout Guide" for more information on grouting.
Mixing
Use approximately 2–2-3/8 quarts (1.9 – 2-1/4 ℓ) of clean potable
water for 25 lbs (11.3 kg) of 1500 Sanded Grout powder. Place water
in a clean mixing container and add grout powder slowly. Mix by
hand or with a slow speed mixer to a smooth stiff consistency. Allow
to slake for 5–10 minutes and remix.
Application
Dampen tile surface with water. Spread with a sharp, firm rubber
grout float. Work the grout paste into the joints until completely filled.
Use diagonal strokes to pack the joints. Ensure that joint is filled and
grout is not just sitting on top (i.e. “bridging the joint”).
Note: For fuller, flush joints sprinkle a thin layer of dry grout
powder over surface immediately after grouting. When grout
darkens over joint, buff with burlap, carpet remnant or cotton rag to
pack joint and clean face of tile.
Cleaning
Grout Primary Cleaning—Remove excess grout from the face of
the tiles with the edge of the grout float. Hold the float at a 90° angle
and pull it at a 45° angle diagonally across the joints and tile to avoid
pulling out the material.
Grout Secondary Cleaning—Remove remaining grout with a damp
sponge (not wet) or a damp towel. Work diagonally to the joints.
Allow to dry. When the grout joints are firm, polish the surface with a
coarse nylon pad or coarse cloth and minimal water.
5 – 7%
Note: Use caution when polishing soft glazed tiles or polished stone.
3500–4500 psi (24.1 – 31 MPa)
Selecting Other Grout Materials
LATICRETE has grouting materials designed for every use. For
exceptional stain resistance in most installations choose
SPECTRALOCK® PRO Premium Grout†. For installations that require

8. MAINTENANCE
LATICRETE® and LATAPOXY® grouts require routine cleaning with
a neutral pH soap and water. Contact the cleaner manufacturer if
another cleaner type will be used to ensure compatibility with the
grout. Installation performance and durability may depend on
properly maintaining products supplied by other manufacturers.
Routine maintenance can be done with detergents and a sponge or
mop. For tough or difficult to remove soil, a bleaching cleaner (e.g.
Soft Scrub, Comet, Ajax, etc. or electric dish washing detergent) on a
nylon scrubbing pad or a long handled stiff bristle brush can be used.
Please note: Prior to using any cleaning material on a tile, etc.
installation, test a discrete area or scrap piece of tile to insure desired
results. For additional information, please refer to the LATICRETE
Grout Guide, TDS 400.

Limitations
 Do not use where chemical resistance is required. Instead, use
SPECTRALOCK® 2000 IG.
 Do not use acid to clean colored grout joints.
 Do not allow grout to harden on the face of the tile; clean
promptly.
 Jobsite conditions can affect the final color of colored grouts. Try
a small test area to determine your results before grouting entire
installation.
 Certain types of tile are more absorbent than others and may
stain during grouting. Prior to grouting, test a tile with the grout
selected. Use a grout release or sealer if required.
 Adhesives/mastics, mortars and grouts for ceramic tile,
pavers, brick and stone are not replacements for waterproofing
membranes. When a waterproofing membrane is required, use
a Waterproofing Membrane (see Section 10 FILING
SYSTEMS).
 1600 Unsanded Grout is designed to be mixed with either water
or 1776 Grout Enhancer. Do not mix other grout additives with

4. TECHNICAL DATA
VOC/LEED Product Information
This product has been certified for Low Chemical
Emissions (ULCOM/GG UL2818) under the UL
GREENGUARD Certification Program For Chemical
Emissions For Building Materials, Finishes and Furnishings
(UL 2818 Standard) by UL Environment.
Dampen tile surface with water. Spread with a sharp, firm rubber
grout float. Work the grout paste into the joints until completely filled.
Use diagonal strokes to pack the joints. Ensure that joint is filled and
grout is not just sitting on top (i.e. “bridging the joint”).
When the grout joints are firm polish the surface with a
coarse nylon pad or coarse cloth and minimal water.
Note: Use caution when polishing soft glazed tiles or polished stone.
Total VOC Content pounds/gallon (grams/liter) of product in unused
form is 0.00 lb/gal (0.00 g/ℓ).

5. INSTALLATION
Surface Preparation
Before starting to grout, remove spacers and debris in grout joints
and remove dust and dirt using a wet sponge. Do not leave water
standing in joints. Substrate temperature must be between
40°F (4°C) and 90°F (32°C). Apply grout release or sealer if
necessary. Refer to Grout Troubleshooting Guide for more
information on grouting.
Selecting Other Grout Materials
LATICRETE has grouting materials designed for every use. For
maximum stain resistance in most installations choose
SPECTRALOCK® PRO Grout†. For installations that require high
strength and chemical resistance choose SPECTRALOCK 2000 IG.
These products are ideal for installations where a stain resistant,
colorfast grout is desired.

Consult Mohawk’s Technical Services Department for installation recommendations regarding
substrates and conditions not listed.
APPLICATION
Read all installation instructions thoroughly before installation.
Site conditions and floor preparation requirements must comply with those specified by the Mohawk
Group Installation Guidelines. The installation site must be acclimated with HVAC in operation. The
jobsite, substrate, carpet tiles and the adhesive must be conditioned at a temperature of 65°F - 85°F
and ambient humidity of 30-65% for at least 48 hours before and during the installation. When
installation is complete the jobsite must be maintained at normal service temperature and humidity. If
these conditions are not attainable, contact Mohawk Technical Services.
Use the appropriate notched trowel (see “Typical Trowels and Approximate Coverages” section).
Spread adhesive evenly over the subfloor, keeping the trowel at a 45° angle to the subfloor.
Install flooring in strict accordance with the Mohawk Group’s installation guidelines.
Roll the flooring with a 75 - 100lb. roller across the width and length of the flooring surface.
CLEAN UP
Promptly clean any adhesive from the flooring material’s surface with water while the adhesive is
still fresh/wet.
Clean tools with water while the adhesive is still fresh/wet.
Use mineral spirits once dried. Use caution with mineral spirits, which may be harmful to some
materials. DO NOT APPLY SOLVENT DIRECTLY TO THE FLOORING MATERIAL.
SHELF LIFE
Two years when stored in original, unopened packaging at 73°F (23°C).
COVERAGE
Spread rate is 140-160sy per 4 gallons with a 3/8” nap roller or 100-120sy per 4 gallons with a
1/16” x 1/32” x 1/32” U-notch trowel.
PROTECT FROM FREEZING

Carcinogenicity
A: General Product Information
Exposure to quartz (the most stable and common form of crystalline silica) is responsible for the majority of
clinically diagnosed silicosis. Silicosis is a fibronodular lung disease that occurs after occupational exposure to
crystalline silica for 5 years or longer. Inhalation of quartz dusts may cause shortness of breath, limitation of chest
expansion, dry cough, and a lessened capacity for work. Individuals with a pre-existing disease in, or a history of
ailments involving the skin or respiratory tract, are at a greater risk of developing adverse health effects when
exposed to this material. There may be a relationship between silicosis and certain cancers.

prior to installation. Do not stretch the rubber accessories. The
rubber accessories can be stretched while rolling and will later
return to its original length resulting in gaps. It is important to
always hand-roll the rubber accessories in the direction toward
the last piece installed. If only a single accessory is being
installed, roll in one direction only. Do not roll material in two
directions. This practice will ensure a tight fit. Bond the rubber
accessories to approve substrates within 15 minutes after
applying adhesive and lightly roll with a hand wall base roller.
Periodically check the back of the rubber accessories to make
sure good adhesive transfer occurs.
Adhesives
Roppe 535U “Universal” Urethane Enhanced Epoxy Two-Part

Roppe Products | MSDS
To Whom It May Concern,
We have made the responsible decision not to publish MSDS sheets for our individual products
produced or provided by the Roppe Corporation, with the exception of adhesives. We base this decision
on the fact that our products are articles and therefore are not subject to the MSDS requirement as
defined within the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). Please review the following text for further
explanation of our decision, while keeping in mind that we are not the only organization to do this.
According to Hazard Communication Standard 29 CFR 1910.1200, An "article" means a manufactured
item: (1) which is formed to a specific shape or design during manufacture (2) which has end use
function(s) dependent in whole or in part upon its shape or design during end use; and (3) which does not
release, or otherwise result in exposure to, a hazardous chemical under normal conditions of use. Roppe
Corporation is in the business of manufacturing floor coverings that are articles. OSHA requires MSDS's
only for materials that (a) meet OSHA's definition of hazardous and (b) are "known to be present in the
workplace in such a manner that employees may be exposed under normal conditions of use or in a
foreseeable emergency". Therefore, Roppe is exempt from publishing MSDS for floor coverings.
When it comes to indoor air quality, a primary concern is the emission level of specific volatile organic
compounds (VOCs). FloorScore® IAQ Certification means that a flooring product is independently
certified by SCS to comply with the volatile organic compound emissions criteria of the California Section
01350 Program. Most Resilient Flooring Products offered by Roppe and their adhesives bear the
FloorScore® seal. This seal tells you that the products have been independently certified by SCS to
comply with the volatile organic compound emissions criteria of the California Section 01350 standard.
Any product that has met these stringent standards is a product that will contribute to good indoor air
quality. The FloorScore® certification means healthier, cleaner air, and healthier humans.
NSF/ANSI 332 Sustainability Assessment for Resilient Floor Coverings is the foremost standard by
which to evaluate and certify sustainability of Resilient Flooring products across their entire product life
cycle. Based on life cycle assessment approach NSF/ANSI 332 employs an easy-to-use point system to
evaluate resilient flooring against established prerequisite requirements, performance criteria and
quantifiable metrics in six key areas: (1) Product Design, (2) Product Manufacturing, (3) Long-term Value,
(4) End-of-Life Management, (5) Corporate Governance, and (6) Innovation.
FloorScore and NSF/ANSI 332 certificates for Roppe products and adhesives are available from the
Roppe website. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
