This week we are reminded that God’s ultimate victory may be a long way off. Perseverance in prayer, proclamation, and work will be needed along the way. The characters in today’s readings can serve as role models for us on the long journey of discipleship. In the reading from Exodus Joshua does not give up fighting, Moses does not give up praying, and Aaron and Hur do not give up supporting him until the victory is won. In the Gospel story the widow does not stop begging until justice is done. As the letter to Timothy urges, we are to “be persistent whether it is convenient or inconvenient” until the coming of “Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead” (2 Timothy 4:2, 1).© Copyright, J. Protecting children from Abuse The establishment of the Office of Safeguard the Children in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and the formation of Safeguard the Children Parish Committees in the parishes were mandated by Cardinal Roger Mahoney in 2002. The Office of Safeguard the Children assists these permanent Parish Committees in implementing child sexual abuse prevention education, Safe Environment policies, procedures and resources. Children & Youth Sexual Abuse Prevention Programs “Child sexual abuse prevention includes empowering children by teaching them body safety rules and steps they can take to ensure their own safety. The Archdiocese of Los Angeles currently offers the following age-appropriate prevention programs for children: VIRTUS Teaching Touching Safely; Good-Touch/Bad-Touch; Archdiocese of Los Angeles Prevention Program. Parishes/schools can select from the programs listed above. Greetings, Brother Andre Bessette will be canonized a Saint today by Pope Benedict XVI in Rome. Bro. Andre lived in Canada and was a member of the Holy Cross Brothers. Bro. Andre lived a simple life as the doorman at St. Joseph's Oratory. He suffered a great deal most of his life with chronic stomach aches. He would often offer his pain to God as his gift that other's would be given grace to give their hearts to Christ Jesus. He had a deep desire to be a priest but his illness prevented him from pursuing his dream. God accepted his love and motivation and worked many miracles through him but he would always attribute the miracles to his favorite Saint, St. Joseph. He inspired many to trust in Christ Jesus, especially when their struggles were unbearable. So today, let's congratulate St. Andre Bessette and share in the joy of Heaven, asking him for his help that we too will grow ever closer to God. Have yourself a most blessed week.
