Skirball Rabbi Zvi Weinberg Dear Family and Friends, (scroll down for Hebrew) Please plan on joining us on Lag B'Omer, Monday, May 19, when family, friends and colleagues will gather at 9:30 am under the auspices of the Rabbi David J. Forman Memorial Fund. As David's 4th yahrzeit approaches we will join together in an activity demonstrating commitment to community, Jewish values, sustainability and pluralism. We will be working and planting in a community pocket park in the Forman family neighborhood of Kiryat Yovel. The park is part of a city-wide effort to develop gardens and green space in urban areas for use by all and the Kiryat Yovel garden is created and operated by members of the Reform "HaDror" community (an offshoot of Kol HaNeshama), which is encouraging the development of a pluralistic neighborhood. "HaDror" members created the pocket park to add the element of working the land and the connection with nature to the spiritual dimension of the community. Every week families in the community, school and neighborhood groups come to the garden to maintain it and cultivate family flowerbeds . During the year there are events, holiday celebrations, Kabbalat Shabbat prayers, movies during the summer and more. The garden is open to anyone who wants to take part. The park is defined as a joint project of Dror and the TALI school. We will begin the day with group work in the park – laying a pebble path from the entrance to the heart of the garden, preparing signage for the different species in the park and gardening. All our work will be led and supervised by professional gardeners and planners together with one of the community's inspiriting activists who is the real force in developing and sustaining this sacred space. The Rabbi David J. Forman Memorial Fund sponsors activities that perpetuate the legacy of our teacher and rabbi‘s passion for the Zionist enterprise building a more just Israeli society, contributing to better Israeli-Diaspora relations, and enhancing Jewish Peoplehood. At the conclusion of the activity we will sit together for a self-catered picnic, friendship, study and song. Everyone is requested to bring their own picnic or organize together with family and friends for sharing. The day's activities are family- friendly and suitable for the young and young at heart. Suggested equipment: Wear comfortable clothing suitable for outdoor work including closed shoes, socks and a hat. (There are some shady areas on site) Work/gardening gloves, sunscreen, sunglasses and water are essential.
