Two versions of this car were built. The first version is built by Gunderson at Portland, Oregon. Spotting features of these cars include
welded corrugated non-terminating ends composed of three panels, the top two panels having two corrugations and the lower panel with
three corrugations (2/2/3). There are 14 exterior posts (seven on either side of the centered sliding doors) and the third post on each end
is wider, with a hole near the bottom to allow access to the end rivet on the riveted bolster. The sill is straight with a radiused notch that
extends inboard to the bolster (terminating at the third post).
The second version is built by TrentonWorks at Trenton, Nova Scotia. Spotting features of these cars include welded corrugated nonterminating ends composed of seven individual channels welded to a flat steel plate. There are 12 exterior posts (six on either side of the
centered doors). The sill is a drop design, welded from five angle sections (two straight end sections, two intermediate drop sections and
a long straight center section. There is a jack pad welded to the bottom face of the sill at the bolster.
All these cars are stenciled as 6538 cubic feet, but UMLER shows the Gunderson cars as 6537 cubic feet, the CN and NOKL lettered
Trenton cars as 6525 cubic feet and the GNRR Trenton cars as 6505 cubic feet.

Close-up of the notch in the sill of CLC 3834, built 1/95. Note that the bolster is riveted to the sill with six rivets (or Huck bolts). The hole
in the wide post allows access to the rivet during assembly or for repairs. The jack pad is welded to the sill and bolster. Trenton-built cars
utilize a welded bolster (see following pages), and rather than a straight sill made from channel as on the Portland-built cars, the sills are
fabricated from angle stock and welded to give it the drop below the door tracks.

Trenton-built cars of this capacity have the bolster and jack pad welded to the sill of the car, as opposed to the riveted design of Portlandbuilt cars. CN 558339, built 3/96.
CLC 3814 (3800-3949) Lot 19970 Built 1/95 Gunderson (Portland, Oregon)
CLC 3814 is in Orillia, Washington in the BN yard during September 1996 after unloading building materials at Vandermeer Forest
Products in Renton. It’s equipped with an 8-foot wide plus an 8’ 4” wide by 12’ 6” tall YSD combination corrugated/panel doors, a Klasing
hand brake, Buckeye 100-ton Barber S-2-HD trucks with 36" wheels, 15” FMI SN2-E end-of-car cushioning, lading strap anchors and a
reinforced nailable steel floor. The load limit is 209,300; the light weight is 76,700 and its paint is original.
CN 558033 (558000-558424) Built 1/96 TrentonWorks (Trenton, Nova Scotia)
CN 558033 is at the Home Depot distribution center in Kent, Washington during March 2003. It’s equipped with an 8’ 1” and an 8’ 4” wide
by 12’ 6” tall RCS 7-panel doors, an Ellcon-National Peacock hand brake, Dofasco 100-ton Barber S-2-HD trucks with 36" wheels, lading
strap anchors, a nailable steel floor but no end-of-car cushioning. The load limit is 215,700; the light weight is 70,300 and the paint is
original.
GNRR 8123 (8000-8199) Built 10/95 TrentonWorks (Trenton, Nova Scotia)
GNRR 8123 is at Vandermeer Forest Products in Kent, Washington during April 2000 with a load of building materials. It’s equipped with
an 8’ 1” and an 8’ 5” wide by 12’ 6” tall RCS 7-panel doors, an Ellcon-National Peacock hand brake, 100-ton Barber S-2-HD trucks with
36" wheels and a reinforced, nailable steel floor. The load limit is 216,100; the light weight is 69,100 and the paint is original.
NOKL 558426 (558425-558524) Built 3/96 TrentonWorks (Trenton, Nova Scotia)
NOKL 558426 is in the North Vancouver, British Columbia yard during May 1997. It’s equipped with an 8’ 1” and an 8’ 4” wide by 12’ 6”
tall RCS 7-panel doors, an Ellcon-National Peacock hand brake, 100-ton Barber S-2-HD trucks with 36" wheels and a reinforced, nailable
steel floor. The load limit is 215,900; the light weight is 70,100 and the paint is original.
