Emsiso EDRIVE 2150 dual BLDC motor controller For electrical vehicle use General • • Dual BLDC motor controller. Independent commutation control of two BLDC motors, usually mounted on two wheels. Additional DC/DC converter, which converts battery voltage to 13,5 V for powering legacy 12 V devices (lights, radio, ...). Motor control features • • • • • • • • Vector current control minimizes torque ripple and vibrations of motor. No motor audible noise. Vector current control with inexpensive hall sensors in motor. 6 step BLDC control for zero speed maximum torque. Four quadrant control (forward/backward with regeneration). Integrated speed regulator. Throttle input controls motor torque, motor speed or combination of both. Latest option gives similar control response as petrol engine. Automatically division of torque between two motors (electronic differential). Synchronous rectification, ultra low drop, fast PWM to achieve very high efficiency. Protection functions • • • • • • • • • • • Maximum motor current protection. I2t motor current protection for protecting motor without thermal sensor. Thermal protection of motors (input for temperature sensor in each motor). Gradual decrease of maximum motor current when motor temperature reaches limit. Independent for each motor. Controller thermal protection independent for each channel/motor. Gradual decrease of maximum motor current. Hall sensor failure detection and safe motor shut down. Low battery protection with battery voltage measurement. Gradual decrease of maximum current when battery voltage indicates empty battery. Compensation for cable and battery internal resistance voltage drop. High voltage battery protection. Prevents over voltage situations when regenerating with full or damaged battery. Emergency stop button with dual redundant circuit and self test. Continuous throttle input out of range detection. High pedal protection: Disable operation if power up with non-zero throttle. Magnetic brake self test and continuous supervision. CAN communication • • • Supports CAN 2.0B protocol. Used to connect display devices or smart battery charges. Controller can operate as slave, receiving control values from CAN. Additional functions • • • Control for magnetic brake. Output for brake light, active when regenerating. Charger present input, disables driving when connected to charger. • • Spare analog input used for control of maximum speed or regenerative braking. Spare digital input used for mode selection (slow/fast). Set up and customization • • • • • • All settings are stored as parameters and can be changed. No »hard-wired« limits and settings. RS232 connection for adjustment of settings. Settings are adjusted with text commands or GUI configuration SW. Compatible with 60-degree or 120-degree hall position sensor. Support any number of motor poles. Separated limits for forward and reverse driving. Electronic design • • • • • • • • Power and control stage galvanic isolated. This removes problems with voltage drops and circulating currents in battery connection. All connections have automotive EMC protection. All control connections are protected against short circuit to ground or battery voltage. Reverse battery protection (main fuse will blown). Low EMC design, with proper cable wiring easily reaches class B EMC emission regulations. Oversized capacitor bank for reduced harmonic current in battery connection. Soft charging for capacitor bank, no extensive battery currents on power on. Self test of power stage detects MOSFET failures and motor connection failures. Housing . • • • • Back aluminum plate used for thermal connection with vehicle chassis for improved cooling. IP 40 protection for housing and all connectors. M8 Screw connections for battery, motor phases and 13,5 V out. Integrated high current fuse holder for battery connection. Specifications • • • • • • • Dual BLDC motor controller with DC/DC voltage converter. Nominal battery voltage 48 V. Permanent motor phase current 120 A, 3 minutes up to 150 A.
