In this particular book, the terms “Berwick” and “Berwick-upon-Tweed” have been used
interchangeably, and all refer to Berwick, on the River Tweed, at the time of going to press, in the
county of Northumberland, England. It has been in Scotland 13 times, but that’s another story 

Introduction to this book…
…and a few words from the editor/MD (complete with better photo!  )
Hello, and thanks for picking up this book! This book takes our plans away from our usual operating coverage areas. It is,
however, one we are well aware of through many previous visits, and passing through on longer journeys. A timetable
book across Northumberland hasn’t been completed for some time. Sadly, the County Council have been swamped with
changes over the last few years, so concentrated on roadside and Traveline information. The council have been very kind
in supplying a lot of information to me. This has enabled me to put together this book, and is typeset in Tahoma to
match the material they supplied. (Eventually, the plan is that our future books and other publications are now to be set
in VAGRoundedBT as per our logo, but if this one is popular, who knows what the future holds?) As another experiment,
this guide features not just buses & coaches, but also times for boats, trains and the Metro to Newcastle Airport.
Many thanks to many people for helping this book come to fruition – Richard Hall from Northumberland County Council
for supplying the majority of the timetables and additional assistance with the network details. Thanks must also go to
John Pottinger from Arriva for his assistance, and BeerAndBuses.co.uk or Steven Oliver, for supplying the pictures used.
There are a large number of changes due to happen around the end of March/early April. I’ve added the times in this
book, as far as we can. This book also contains train times, and these two are dated clearly. Further changes will apply
during the Olympic Games period in London, and subsequently for the autumn leaf fall period. You are therefore advised
to check train times after this date. Engineering work can occur at weekends on trains, roads, and the Metro, in addition
to the refurbishment program of Metro train cars. As a result, passengers are recommended to double check at these
times – especially at weekends and bank holidays. We would like to publish this book twice a year – and in this area,
seasonal changes occur around April and October, although Scottish schools resume in August and English schools
resume in September. We intend to produce an update supplement half way through this period, see Page 94.
I do need to say this. I don’t operate any of the services. Therefore, the times shown are in good faith. While the bus,
coach, train, Metro and boat operators featured will do everything that they can do to run scheduled as scheduled,
circumstances beyond their control mean that they may not always succeed. Buses are more reliable than a few years
back through use of newer vehicles and bus priorities, but are not invincible! Transport staff do work hard to deliver
service to the public (I’ve done it before, but not driven) – and are only human. So, when someone else has a crash on
the A1(M), when the barrier at a level crossing delays your arrival by a couple of minutes, or the crowd at Shielfield
comes out and the traffic (and bodies!) take Berwick by storm, then please don’t take it out on the staff!
As was mentioned above, Northumberland County Council has supplied the majority of the information in this timetable
book. The rest was put together by the editor from sources including printed publicity, web information and more. As a
result, Northumberland County Council can accept no liability for the information contained therein. This book was
researched with care, and all times & fares were believed to be correct, and includes all revised timetables up to and
including Monday 12th March 2012 (the date when this book was concluded – including a last-minute change to the
AD122 with revised timetables, and one bus starting/ending at Penrith). They may well be subject to subsequent change,
and supplements are available free – we will post them out automatically, see Page 94 for details.
We hope you like this book you have in your hands now – but please keep sending us feedback, and we’ll be sure to
listen, and respond. We have plans for books in many other areas across the UK - please ask for a catalogue! (Contact
details are opposite). As with previous personal publications, all that is left is to devote this publication to my partner
Caroline (now business and life!), who has supported me and provided me with a new look on life for almost five years.
She is also our technical director, at Here To There Publishing Ltd., and is the reason I’m down here again!

Some services are operated either wholly, or partly, with financial support from local authorities.
Without this money - usually termed as a subsidy - many early morning, evening, weekend and rural
bus services would not operate. If your query or comment concerns a subsided service, also contact
the local authority who pays for the service. Local authorities are also responsible for things like bus
stops/shelters/timetable cases/road markings, as well as general condition of the road, etc. So, if
your query was regarding one of these, it would be best to contact your local authority – or in the
case of a council within the Tyne & Wear area, contact Tyne & Wear PTE/Nexus.

Comments and Complaints – Bus & Coach Services
If you have a complaint about a bus service, or the way that you have been treated by a bus company or a member of
its staff, then you should complain to the company (preferably in writing) in the first instance. Try to give as much
information as possible including date, time, location, and vehicle registration or route number. If you have a ticket,
enclose a copy (not the original) and ensure you give a clear and concise description of your complaint. Remember to
keep your letter polite and stick to the facts of what happened. If your complaint remains unsolved...
If your complaint concerns staff behaviour, reliability or
some other failure in service by a bus company, the Bus
Appeals Body can pursue your complaint. You must ensure
that you have complained to the bus company first and
that you have given them reasonable time in which to
respond.
If you are concerned regarding sustained problems in
operation, or vehicles in a dangerous or non-roadworthy
condition, you can contact the Government department
responsible for issuing bus licences and monitoring service
operation.

For the latest information on train times, contact National Rail Enquiries, on 08457 484950 or www.nationalrail.co.uk .
Available 1st week of April – at a special price!
The Northumberland county timetable book is a new independently
published timetable book, by Here To There Publishing Ltd.
The book is A5 size, 240 pages, and contains timetables for all bus &
coach services across Northumberland county. This edition also includes
summary train, ferry and Metro timetables, and colour maps of the
Metro and Northumberland’s key bus routes.
Usually £7.50 plus postage – but as an introductory offer, you can buy a
copy for £7.00, plus postage & packaging (until the end of April 2012).
Buy online at ww.heretotherepublishing.com/northumberland or post
the form below back to Here To There Publishing Ltd, 15 Titchmarsh
Close, Royston, Hertfordshire, SG8 5DD. Phone 01763 252868.
E-mail/PayPal ID is [email protected]
If you’d like more than one copy – no problem! Drop us an email or
give us a ring, and we’ll be happy to give you a price.
We also have bulk prices for orders of six or more, which depend on
volumes taken (i.e. we will obtain a custom quote from our printer, and
charge you accordingly).
Postage costs go up in two phases in April 2012 – Account holders will be Plus VAT, which will apply to those from
our supplier. We pay the cash price – which is excluding VAT. However, as we’re not VAT registered… yet… now see
how I get confused? Anyway – we will be charging postage at £1.50 plus the new cash price a little early – but the
print-on-demand supplier will be charging higher rates from that time. At the same time, the Large Letter limit
drops to 750grams, while the packet rate is now consistent from 1g to 750g – meaning much higher charges for
sending out our medium-sized books. www.heretotherepublishing.com/postage2012 tells the story, but suffice to
say, any savings made at the time of us posting to you, will be refunded by means of a credit note.
Please supply me with a copy of the new Here To There Publishing timetable book
201 – Northumberland – March 2012, at the cost of £7.00 (until end April)/£7.50
