Welcome Message from the President of JSASS
I would like to warmly welcome all of you attending from all over the world to
"Asia-Pacific International Symposium on Aerospace Technology" (APISAT 2013) in
Takamatsu jointly co-organized by four national aerospace societies from Japan, China,
Australia and Korea.
It is our second time to host APISAT. The inaugural symposium was held in Gifu,
Japan in 2009. Since then the symposium was held in Xi’an (China), Melbourne
(Australia) and Jeju (Korea). The original aim of APISAT was to provide the
opportunity to Asia-Pacific nations not only for the researchers of universities and
academic institutes, but also for the industry engineers to discuss the current and future
advanced topics in aeronautical and space engineering. I believe we have accomplished
this initial aim and now we are in the second stage to expand APISAT activities further.
Our society, JSASS, (co-)organizes three major international symposiums, that is,
APISAT, ISTS (International Symposium on Space Technology and Science) and
AJCPP (Asian Joint Conference on Propulsion and Power). The ISTS is mainly aimed
for the space technology/science and the AJCPP for the aerospace propulsion technology. Thus, these three symposiums cover
the whole aspects of aeronautical and space sciences. Throughout these three symposiums, we hope we have been of some
help toward the development of aeronautical and space engineering in the Asia-Pacific area.
Finally, I would like to express my gratitude to the organizing committee of APISAT 2013 who has worked hard to make
this symposium a success. I also hope that all the delegates will have a fruitful time during this symposium.
Prof. Kenichi Rinoie
President,
The Japan Society for Aeronautical and Space Sciences

Welcome Message from the Chairman of APISAT 2013
Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the organizing committee, it is our great honor to welcome you all to
the 2013 Asia-Pacific International Symposium on Aerospace Technology,
APISAT-2013, held in Takamatsu, Japan. Since the first APISAT in 2009, it has
grown up steadily with increasing number of technical presentations. It is notable that
the number of presentations has been almost doubled in four years.
Following this expansion in scale of APISAT, we, the National Organizing
Committee of Japan Society for Aeronautical and Space Sciences (JSASS), in
cooperation with the International Program Committee and National Organizing
Committees of the societies in China, Australia, and Korea, have tried to introduce
several new features as presented below in order to mostly enhance technical values of
APISAT and communication of attendees further:
- Introduction of Organized Sessions (OS): In the past symposia, the proportion of papers presented by students was large
relative to that of other matured symposia. To collect higher-level papers authored by regular researchers and engineers and
to focus on advancing technical fields for deeper discussions, we introduced 16 OSs covering the whole field of aerospace
technologies in this symposium.
- Publication of selected technical papers: For archiving the papers presented and expanding the influence of the technical
achievement in this symposium, excellent papers will be selected and published in a JSASS’s refereed journal, ‘Transactions
of JSASS, Aerospace Technology Japan.’
- Utilization of Social Network Service (SNS): To facilitate communications and future collaborations among attendees, we
have introduced some SNSs, that are, Facebook, Twitter, and Weibo, since we believe that one of most important values of
technical symposium is mutual communication.
Takamatsu where the symposium venue is located is a beautiful city which has gorgeous scenery of Seto Inland Sea and
fine Japanese food such as ‘Sanuki Udon’ noodle. Surrounded by this wonderful atmosphere, I heartily hope you enjoy this
symposium as much as possible, attending technical sessions including Invited/Plenary Lectures and social events such as
banquet and joint reception and make new friends from all over the world.
Sincerely yours,
Shigeya Watanabe
Chairman of APISAT-2013 Organizing Committee

assigned number. Information of the bus number is shown in their participant’s kit. Final announcement about the Post
Tour is also included in the participant’s kit.
In this Post Tour, two historical buildings, a beautiful Japanese garden and a hand-making process of a Japanese
traditional “Udon” noodles will be introduced to the participants.
- Konpira Grand Theater (Kanamaru-za)
The Konpira Grand Theater is a restored Kabuki theater in Kotohira, Kagawa. It was originally constructed in
1835, and is the oldest kabuki theater in Japan. Kabuki plays are still performed for one month each year. There are
various special equipments and rooms for Kabuki performance.
- Konpira Shrine
Kompira shrines are dedicated to sailors and seafaring. Located on the wooded slope of Mount Zozu in Kotohira,
the approach to Kompirasan is an arduous series of totally 1,368 stone steps. Despite being one of the most difficult
shrine approaches in Japan, Kompirasan is a highly popular site visited by pilgrims from across the country. The
approach begins amongst a touristy shopping arcade filled with souvenir shops and Sanuki Udon restaurants. Then
the participants will climb 785 steps to the main hall of the shrine, pasting a number of auxiliary shrine buildings and
museums. The main hall is a viewpoint overlooking Kotohira Town, and the Ema Hall which displays plates and
pictures of ships whose crews sought the protection of the shrine.
- “Sanuki Udon” Noodle hand-making experience
Participants experience a hand-making process of the traditional dish “Sanuki Udon” in Kagawa under instruction
of Udon school teachers with dancing. After this hand-making experience, the hand-made Udon noodles will be
served as lunch.
- Ritsurin Garden
It is a landscape garden in Takamatsu City, and built by the local feudal lords during the early Edo Period and
considered as one of the best gardens in Japan. The spacious park features many ponds, hills, historic trees and
beautiful pavilions divided into a Japanese style garden in the south and western style garden in the north. The
gardens are located in front of wooded Mt. Shiun which serves as a wonderful background and great example of
borrowed scenery.
The lighting ceremony of the Autumn Garden Illumination will be held especially for the APISAT-2013’s
participants at 17:00. The place of the ceremony will be the Kikugetsu-tei teahouse in the southwest part of the
gardens. Green powdered tea with a Japanese pastry will be served there. It is recommended that most participants
join this special lighting ceremony. Please note that a bus is also available, departing at 16:15 at the entrance of the
garden for participants who want to get back to the JR Hotel Clement Takamatsu earlier than the scheduled
adjournment time
