Sales in TESS for 2013 amounted to
NOK 2.61 billion, representing the
largest sales volume to date in TESS.
Pre-tax profit ended up at NOK 118

Businessisgrowingsteadilyandtheplansareinplaceforadded
growthinNorwayandfurtherafield.
TESSexperiencedtheNorwegianmarketasrelativelystablein
2013.The demand for goods and services in the petroleum industryandrelatedbusinesshasseenrecordhighs.Otherbusiness
TESS services has remained stable on average. Unfavourable
exchange rates for the export companies have been cause for
concern for a long time. However, the NOK weakened toward
theendoftheperiod,representinganadvantageformanyofour
customersandadisadvantageforTESSasanimporter.
ThissteadyexpansioninTESSistoagreatextentlinkedtoour
coremotto:Followyourcustomers!Thestrategyistofollowour
major customers wherever they might be. TESS has enjoyed
greatsuccesswiththisstrategy.Oureffortstostretchourselves
further out into the value chain have brought results. From
1 January 2014 subsea activities at headquarters have been
organised under the company TESS SubseaAS. This makes it
possible to streamline business focus on the market areas the
previousdivisionworkedwith.
More than 110 TESS sites
TESSopenedforbusinessatsixnewsitesduring2013andQ1
2014.Thesenewbusinessesarespreadoverjustasmanycounties. Two of these are in the form of Partnershop collaborating
with a major customer. TESS Skien merged with TESS
Porsgrunnin2013,andLierMaskinforretningwascloseddown
inMay2014.TESSMoldeandTESSØlenwillmoveintonew
business premises owned by TESS during the course of 2014.
TESS Brazil is expanding with a new service centre in Rio de
Janeiro.AnewPartnershopwillalsobeopeningincollaboration
withStatoilduringthesecondhalfof2014.

alongwithabroadrangeofassociatedservices.Inaddition,TESS
is a leading Norwegian participant within the areas of welding
machines and materials, cleaning machines, personal protective
equipment,tools,consumables,etc.Aroundthecompany’score
products,TESShasbuiltupalargerangeoflocalservicesanda
dedicatedcentraltechnicaldivision.
TESSSubseaASisatechnologycompanywhoseprimaryfocus
ishydraulicmultilinecablingproductsforthesubseamarket.The
companyisalsopursuingaweldingworkshopspecialisinginsteel
tubingandinstallationservicesinTESS.
Our market primarily consists of industrial customers, both on
andoffshore.Theproductsaredistributedthroughmorethan100
of the company’s service centres, which are spread across the
entirecountry.
Eachservicecentrehasalocallyadaptedrangeofservicesand
inventory. TESS’s head office is situated in Lier municipality,
outsidethecityofDrammen.TESSwasestablishedin1968,and
ismainlyownedbyfoundersErikJølbergandOlavNygaard.

andsupportfunctionsfortheTESScompaniesthatarelocated

Health, safety and environment
Vision
TESS has for a number of years established systems for its
workwithhealth,safetyandenvironment(HSE).Bothinternal
controlsandmappingoftheworkingenvironmenthavehada
permanent place in the personnel handbook for a long time.
A joint HES system has been established for all of TESS’
operations. The system is based on ISO 140001:2004 and
OHSAS18001:2007.TESSworkswithanumberofmeasurestoreducesicknessabsenteeisminitsdifferententerprises
anddepartments.In2010aquarterlyattendancebonusschemeforallemployeeswasintroduced.
Target objective: NOK 10 billion in 2020.

After some years away, TESS organised “Industriens

Newly appointed Industry Minister Monica Maeland (Conservative Party of
Norway) made her very first official business visit to TESS in October 2013.

Collaborative agreements form the basis for good logistics,
secure deliverables and relationship development. TESS has
long-term collaborative agreements with a vast number of
customers. These agreements and amended and renewed at

TESS steel hoses
E-commerce, E-invoicing and EDI-solutions
TESS has 15 years’ experience with E-commerce. We have
workedhardtoremainattheforefrontofthisarea.Today,we
canoffercustomersalltypesofsolutionsinthisconnection.
Thetrendisthatanincreasingnumberoforganisationsrequire
their collaborative partners to be able to offer E-invoicing.
Norwegianauthoritieshaveintroducedrequirementswhichstate
that publicly owned organisations shall trade with suppliers
whouseE-invoicing.TESSiswellprepared,andmeetsthese
requirements.TESSoffersE-invoicingbasedonanumberof
standards, or customised in accordance with requirements.
InvoicescanalsobesentasPDFfilesviae-mail.
The supply of complete steel hoses for
variouspurposesisoneofTESS’sspecialities.Wehaveseveraldecades’experience
withtheproductionofsteelhoses,which
arealwaystailor-madeforthecustomer.
The production department outside
Drammen isresponsibleforweldingand
assembly. In addition, the department
handles the adaptation of compensators,
theorbitalweldingoftubes,bending,and
on-site services for the assembly of
complete industrial pipe trenches with
fittings.Ourworkshopandourstaffhave
certificationsandapprovalswhichcover
alltheneedsofthemarket,bothonshore
and offshore. In connection with hose
production,theworkshopcarriesoutpressure testing with water/gas, penetrant,
radiography and flushing in accordance
withNAS/ISOstandards.Theworkshop
isqualityassuredinaccordancewiththe
ISO 9001 directive, certified by DNV.

THM – increased uptime for the customers
TESS are constantly developing the market-leading maintenance system TESS Hose
Management.Improvedsystemsandproceduresmakestheconceptevenmoreattractive
inthemarket,primarilyformarketsasshippingandoffshore.IthasbeenperformedTHM
operationsinseveralpartsoftheworld.Revenuegrowthshowsaverygoodperformance.
In 2013 we signed exciting THM agreements with both PGS Geophysical (a fleet of
Ramformseismicvessels)andrigcompanyDolphinDrilling.TheprospectsforcomprehensiveTHMoperationsaregood.Oftheoperationsinthisperiod,itisworthmentioning
thatthehoseparkonENI´srig“Scarabeo5”wasinspectedinfull,measuredandregisteredinTESSHoseManagement.Inadditiontooffshoreandshippingtherehavealsobeen
traditionalTHMjobsatland,forexampleatabrewery.ThesizeoftheTHMdatabaseis
almost300,000units.

TESSSubseaASbeganoperatingfromthefirstworkingdayinJanuary2014.Thesubsea
industryisinanintensegrowthphase.Thisisbecauseanincreasingnumberofmarginal
oilandgasdiscoveriesarebeingextractedbysubseainstallationsontheseabed.Oursubsea
operations are based on hoses and knowledge of hydraulics. We produce and deliver
completebundles,jumpersandhydraulicflyingleads(HFLs),andready-to-uselinesfor
hydrauliccommunicationbetweentrees,manifoldsandcontrolsystems.Forexample,a
completeHFLunitmayconsistof15tubelines.TESSalsosuppliesjumpersfortopsideuse.
Inrecentyears,oursubseaproductshavebeenusedontheNorwegiancontinentalshelfand
inWestAfrica,RussiaandAustralia.
During2013,itwasgainedordersfromAkerSolutionsincompleteumbilicalswithextrudedcovers.
Scope is the largest of its kind since the subsea
workshopwasestablishedin2007.Thestraininthe
workshop has been steadily good throughout the
year.Newreferenceswillstrengthenourpositionin
themarket.TESSSubseaislocatedinthegeographicalSubseaValley,andhasainvolvementinthe
AssociationSubseaValley.Accordingtothefuture
plansTESSSubseawillbemovedtosomeofthe
hallsinIndustrigata6(neighborestatetotheheadquarters)assoonastheyareavailable.
EDIS is a group of collaborating European companies that exchange knowledge, solutions and technical competence
