The South Australian Tourism Commission (SATC), in partnership with HWR Media & Communications, will again be
producing South Australian Shorts for the 2013/14 tourism year. HWR Media & Communications is your direct point of
contact for all Shorts bookings, enquiries and proof production.
Content and layout
The SATC invites you to purchase your participation in the
South Australian Shorts book – a recognised publication that
showcases holiday packages across all regions of the state.
To secure your place, please read this information and return
your relevant form with all the necessary information and
image/s to:
The South Australian Shorts book, produced for the intrastate
market, offers consumers a comprehensive range of South
Australian experiences, made up of packages with value-add
components built around accommodation, tours, houseboats
and hire cars.

The book also provides an editorial overview of each region,
including a regional map, comprehensive ‘must see, must do’
information and dining suggestions, as well as a listing of key
South Australian events and Visitor Information Centres.
About South Australian Shorts
The South Australian Tourism Commission has been positioning
the Shorts program as an ‘activation’ brand across all areas of
our intrastate marketing activity. This was extremely successful
in the market re-launch of Shorts as a South Australian holiday
retail brand, rather than just a publication.

The Shorts book is an essential tool at the beginning of
a potential traveller’s purchase cycle and our marketing
strategy aims to build on that. We plan to release Shorts
sale catalogues on a seasonal basis, based around optional
operator participation.

Research has shown us that showcasing special offers
instantly triggers a consumer’s interest and prompts
a search of the program, either by book or online.

The South Australian Shorts book is A5 in size, offering three
standard operator entries per page. Building on the success
in 2012/13, we will again also be offering full page and double
page options. Participation options for 2013/14 are:

The role of the Shorts brand and book has been recently
reviewed in light of certain changes, including the Holidays
of Australia preferred agent arrangement coming to an end
as of 31 March 2013. This means visitors will be encouraged
to book direct – saving you commission.

Where is South Australian Shorts distributed?
The Shorts book is distributed direct to South Australians
through the South Australian Visitor Information Centre and
regional Visitor Information Centres across the state.
Participation guidelines
Tourism operators selling South Australian product are eligible
to apply if they meet the following criteria:
•
The business is registered on the SA ATDW (the SATC’s
product database). If you are unsure of your registration
status, please contact SATC Online Services by phoning
(08) 8463 4500 or emailing [email protected]
• The business has no outstanding participation fees for any
previous SATC programs
• The product meets all criteria set out in the South
Australian Shorts ‘Guide For Participation’
All applications are assessed to ensure they are suitable for
inclusion in the program and the SATC reserves the right to
accept or reject any product.
All operators must be contactable via email. All application
forms and proofs will be forwarded by HWR Media &
Communications using this method.
Participation cost
Cancellations and booking policies
There is a 20% discount applicable for all operators accredited
with the Australian Tourism Accreditation Program (ATAP).
To classify for this discount the operator must be ATAP
accredited prior to 1 December 2012.
As there will no longer be a dedicated booking agent for the
Shorts program, booking and cancellation conditions will now
revert to the conditions imposed by each individual operator.
You must ensure that clients are made aware of all conditions
at the time of booking and that these conditions appear on
your website and any confirmation material. We strongly
recommend that you receive a deposit or full payment prior
to check in.
Participation costs are:
• Standard entry (1/3 page) – Accommodation, houseboats,
cruises, hire cars

The SATC reserves the right to modify the ‘Guide For
Participation’ and/or the associated application form/s as it
deems necessary.
Package rates
Package rates must be valid from 1 April 2013 to 31 March 2014.
Rates provided must be valid for seven days and you must
include GST where applicable. You may choose to display
rates on a midweek/weekend or low/high season basis.
Booking restrictions or block-out dates will be accepted.
Accommodation rates must be displayed per package.
Houseboat rates must be displayed on a per houseboat basis.
Tour rates must be displayed on a per person basis.
Vehicle hire rates must be displayed on a per day basis.

Photographic material
Neither the SATC or HWR Media & Communications will
accept visual material that is misleading to the consumer.
The image supplied must accurately represent an element
of your package offer and we suggest that it is less than two
years old.
If the image supplied is not of an appropriate standard your
application may not be accepted.
You must supply an image for every package submitted.
The image can be a print or digital image. If you wish to provide
a digital image, it must be at least 10cm x 15cm in size, 300dpi,
in CMYK format, colour corrected and saved as a TIFF, JPEG or
EPS file on CD, or sent via email. Maximum email size is 7MB.
HWR Media & Communications are unable to alter or enhance
images so it is your responsibility to provide an image that is
ready for printing.
Gift cards
To promote the Shorts book and to increase sales for the
program, Holidays of Australia have been selling gift cards that
can only be redeemed for Shorts holidays. They will continue
to sell the gift cards until 31 March 2013.
The payment from the gift cards is held in trust until redeemed
by the recipient through Holidays of Australia. All gift cards are
valid for two years from the date or purchase.
Therefore all operators participating in the 2013/14 Shorts
book will be required to accept gift card bookings only (subject
to availability) from Holidays of Australia and in this instance
pay 20% commission.
Seasons
For consistency in all publications, the SATC has determined
seasons as follows:
High season: all South Australian public and school holidays
Low season: all other times
Houseboat seasons (determined in conjunction with the
Houseboat Hirers Association of South Australia) are as follows:
Normal: 28 January–31 May and 1 September–13 December
Winter: 1 June–31 August
Peak: 14 December–28 January, Easter and South
Australian long weekends
