Finansiering: Kommunale garantier I 1928 stiftet Bygningsarbeiderforbundet i Oslo “Bygningsarbeidernes Boligproduksjon” (BB). Året etter stiftet forbundet Oslo og Omland Bolig og Sparelag (OOBS) som et forvaltningsorgan. Selskapet bygde Etterstadblokka. Snart ble forbindelsen med produksjonskollektivet BB brutt. OOBS innleder samarbeid med Oslo kommune i 1935 og skiftet navn til Oslo Bolig og Sparelag (OBOS). Etterstadblokka er eneste bygg reist etter Harald Hals’ klassisistiske reguleringsplan for Etterstad fra 1924. J.Chr. Kjelland omregulerte Etterstad under krigen i tråd med nye funksjonalistiske idealer. Blokka er bygd med “tradisjonelle” konstruksjoner som bærende murvegger og trebjelkelag.
