The timber floating canal Støa kanal was in operation between 1859
and 1901. The timber from the forest in Ljørdalen in Eastern Trysil
was transported from the Ljøra River through the canal, crossing the
Flersjøen Lake, to the Trysil River. From there it was floated further
on the river to the sawmills in Karlstad, Sweden. In order to manage
the height difference between the Ljøra River and the Flersjøen Lake,
two large wooden constructions with waterdriven weels powering
wagons to lift the timber were built. In the 1990s one of the wooden
constructions was reconstructed and large parts of the original canal
was made more accessible to the public.
