COURSE DESCRIPTION
Nationally, diabetes affects 25.8 million people or 8.3% of the US
population. Diabetes is the seventh leading cause of death in the
US and a major cause of cardiovascular disease. Improving
patients' outcomes requires a multifaceted approach, starting with
individualized glycemic control, appropriate selection of therapies
and management of various comorbid conditions, such as
hypertension, dyslipidemia and obesity.

The 1st Annual Diabetes Symposium: New Advances and
Innovations has been specifically designed for practicing
endocrinologists, primary care physicians, family physicians, nurse
practitioners, physician assistants, certified diabetes educators,
dietitians, nurses and trainees. This CME conference offers a
unique setting of keynote lectures and panel discussions with
nationally/internationally renowned experts in the field.
The agenda developed by the course directors, Serge Jabbour,
MD and Jeffrey L. Miller, MD, includes in-depth presentations on
a myriad of hot topics, including glycemic goals, consensus
treatment algorithms, diabetes education, inpatient diabetes
management, insulin pumps and continuous glucose sensors, and
the diabetes landscape in the next decade. In addition to the
keynote lectures, the agenda includes four panel discussions
where expert faculty will provide guidance to participants in
applying new knowledge and clinical guidelines into their
practices. The combined format of live debate and didactic
presentations will allow the audience to observe and question the
experts as they discuss real patient cases. In addition, the use of
an audience response system will further engage the participants
and allow them to assess their knowledge and skill levels with
their peers.
