FRIEDRICH-ALEXANDER UNIVERSITÄT ERLANGEN-NÜRNBERG TECHNISCHE FAKULTÄT The Electron Microscopy Group at the Materials Science Department of the University of ErlangenNürnberg offers the position of a Research Engineer in Electron Microscopy and FIB Sample Preparation. The group operates three FEI transmission electron microscopes (TEM), among these a recently 3 installed double-corrected monochromated Titan Themis 60-300, and a fully equipped laboratory for TEM sample preparation with a new focused ion beam instrument (FEI Helios Nanolab 660). Our research focuses on the development and application of advanced TEM and FIB-SEM techniques for quantitative analysis of materials with the goal to contribute to an understanding of structure-property relationships and the role of defects at the microscopic scale. Within the Center for Nanoanalysis and Electron Microscopy (CENEM) we run an EM user facility which aims at making our electron microscopy expertise and instrumentation available to researchers at the University and beyond. As research engineer your responsibilities include      daily maintenance of FIB-SEM and other equipment for TEM sample preparation; interaction with the manufacturers training of users at the FIB-SEM calibration and basic alignment of FIB-SEM and TEMs conventional TEM sample preparation TEM sample preparation by FIB and basic SEM and TEM investigations in projects of the electron microscopy group, research collaborations and for industrial partners You have either scientific or technical background and several years of hands-on experience in SEM and (preferentially) FIB-SEM. Expertise in conventional TEM sample preparation and TEM operation is advantageous but not required. Teamwork skills and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary and international environment are essential. The position is first limited to the funding period of our Cluster of Excellence “Engineering of Advanced Materials” (31.10.2017) but is envisioned to become long term. The salary is according to German standard (E9 - E11 TL-V) and depends on educational qualification and working experience.
