turmoil. People throughout our
land are crying out in despair,
looking for hope and purpose in
a secular society that offered the
broken promise of materialism
as a way of escape and who have
overwhelming needs. UCB is now
in a position to meet that need
through national Christian radio.
I am delighted to welcome you to
the Culloden Hotel where we are
celebrating our first year on the
Northern Ireland DAB network.
It is due to the generosity of many
here tonight that a Christian voice
will be heard throughout the
region on radio for many years to
come.
We hope that many lives will be
changed forever through listening
to God’s Word. As we are
celebrating this blessing I would
also like to bring to your attention
another amazing opportunity.
We are now staring a time-limited
Culloden programme_outline.indd 3
opportunity in the face for
claiming the radio airwaves for
Christ and the proclamation of
the Gospel message for the whole
of the UK on the national DAB
radio network.
International research shows that
Christian radio is not only for
Christians but also attracts a nonChristian audience, in fact 30%
of listeners to a Christian radio
station may never venture inside
a church, but are interested in
learning more about God.
There is a growing cry going out
from Christians throughout our
nation, for God to have His voice
heard across the airwaves; for the
Gospel message to be proclaimed
with boldness; a radio station that
offers positive edifying news,
uplifting music and life-affirming,
hope-building words; a voice that
reveals the heart and nature of our
God in the midst of a nation in
On 16th June this year, the
British Government released a
final report for Digital Britain.
The Carter Report outlined the
Government’s commitment to
DAB technology as their planned
distribution medium for radio
and referred to phasing out AM
and FM broadcasts by 2015. God
spoke to me 23 years ago saying
that He was going to visit the UK
in revival power and He required
a national Christian voice on radio
to proclaim His Glory.
Our team at UCB have worked
tirelessly over the years to build an
organisation capable of grasping
that opportunity whenever the
time was right. We have now been
presented with a once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity that is achievable with
your help; the offer of a national
DAB frequency! To secure the
frequency and sign the contract
to give Christians a national voice
on radio, I am asking you today
if you will stand with us in faith
to see the fulfilment of this Godgiven vision in 2009.

At UCB we are committed to
bringing God’s Word to the
entire nation through all channels
available. The Word For Today
blesses millions of people’s lives
each year in the UK, and right
now we have the chance to extend
that blessing onto the airwaves
through national DAB Radio…
• In the year 2000 the following
motion was unanimously passed
by the Northern Ireland Assembly:
‘That this Assembly calls upon the
appropriate broadcast licensing
authorities to facilitate United
Christian Broadcasters in their
unused AM frequencies’
Culloden programme_outline.indd 5
• In October 2008 United
Christian Broadcasters held an
event at Stormont that presented
the Northern Irish people with
the opportunity to claim the last
remaining space on the DAB
radio network for Christ.
• Thanks to the generosity and
commitment of the people of
Northern Ireland, in January
2009 UCB signed a contract for
the last remaining DAB Radio
channel in the region, securing
a Christian voice in the region
for years to come.
• In June 2009 the Government
announced it is likely that
that FM and AM radio
broadcasts will be phased
out and fully replaced by
DAB by 2015.
• Price falls due to the recession
and changes in the commercial
environment means there has
never been a better opportunity
to sign a contract for a National
DAB coverage.
• There is one channel left on the
National DAB Network.
• Over nine million DAB Radios
have been sold, with sales
increasing by two million DAB
radios each year.
• Out of 300 radio stations,
only 5% carry some form
of religious programming.
We must stop the voice of
Christianity being suffocated
from the airwaves!
• We already have 75% of the
money we need to make the
dream of National Christian
Radio into a reality, but could
still miss out if we fail to raise
the extra 25%!

Author of The Word For Today,
Bob Gass, gives his wholehearted
support…
‘This is your chance to help UCB
realise the God given vision of
bringing His spoken word to the whole
of the UK and change thousands more
lives for good. As well as hearing The
Word For Today being read each day,
you and so many others will be able to
enjoy positive edifying news, uplifting
music and life-affirming, hope-building
words and teaching. Please ask God
how He would have you respond to
this urgent call to extend UCB UK to
the whole nation!’

1) Costs shown exclude non-DAB costs incurred by UCB in supporting digital satellite, digital cable, internet

In addition, in order to cover the cost
of expanding our radio infrastructure,
to promote the existence of national
Christian radio and handle the
growth in response, UCB expects to
have to pay a further £4.4m over the
same period. Thankfully, UCB has
a very strong and loyal support base
and we can expect this to expand as
new listeners ‘discover’ UCB Radio
and provide financial support. This
is an important point.
For UCB to continue to expand
its ministry, we need to reduce
UCB Radio’s dependence on
General Funds and see it become
Culloden programme_outline.indd 7
self-sufficient, after three years.
Although the demand placed on
General Funds during this period
will be nearly £4.5m, we plan to
raise a further £3.4m through other
funding initiatives, including new
listener support. With projected
income until 2012 of nearly £7.9m,
71% of the £11.1m UCB needs to
bring Christian radio to the rest of
the UK is already covered. This
leaves a projected funding gap of
£3.2m. Due to us having to respond
to the pressing circumstances, we
are looking at the project in phases,
where Phase One, being the most
preeminent, is securing the first
year’s start up and carriage
costs for £750,000 within six
months. Once a Christian Voice is
safeguarded, we still need to raise
enough funding for the remaining
annual carriage costs and allocated
non-multiplex costs;
Phase 2 (year 2) £1m and
Phase 3 (year 3) £1.45m.

At UCB’s first staff meeting of 2009, one
of our trustees, Diana Stacey spoke the
following prophecy:
Habakkuk 2:2-3 and v 14
‘UCB was in fact the last domino to
fall and guide me onto my path where
I now walk with my friend and Saviour
Jesus. Thank you so much and God
bless you all now and for the future of
the station.’
Diana said: ‘Write my answer plainly on
tablets, so that a runner can carry the correct
message to others. This vision is for a future
time. It describes the end and it will be
fulfilled. If it seems slow in coming, wait
patiently, for it will surely take place. It will
not be delayed.
‘Sometimes when I get up in the
morning, I feel down and un-motivated,
but this all changes when I switch on
UCB. The music and readings of the
Gospel inspire me to portray my life as
Jesus taught.’
‘For as the waters fill the sea, the earth will
be filled with an awareness of the glory of
the Lord.’
‘The way you present UCB is both
wonderful and a joy to listen to…it
changes the atmosphere where I am.’
A researcher, tasked with writing a new
account of our history, discovered eight
distinctive timelines displaying strong
upward growth. They are visually represented
in the roots, trunk and branches of The Vision
Tree which symbolises UCB as a whole.
Culloden programme_outline.indd 8
‘Thank you UCB. You have been a link
in the chain to who I am and where I
am today.’
