ASSOCIATE: Uh-oh! Last week’s timesheets are
here...what a pain! If I have to cross-index one more
hourly...
EXPERT: Hold on! Who said anything about crossindexing? You can automatically cross-index your payroll
information every time you enter it.
ASSOCIATE: That’s great, but where do I find all the
different documents I have to work with?
EXPERT: You’ll find everything in one place...the Back
Office.
ASSOCIATE: Hey! Where am I?? Am I back in that office
where I started?
EXPERT: This is an office, sure enough, but it’s the Back
Office, just like the place in a business where pay records
are processed.
ASSOCIATE: Oh, I get it! The back room. Pretty sneaky!
EXPERT: I like your, um, enthusiasm, but everything
about the Back Room is pretty straightforward.
EXPERT: You can create, complete, adjust and send pay
records from the same open job order. You’ll be choosing
the week ending date you want to work with, then selecting
your employees from the list of everybody who’s working
in that time period.
ASSOCIATE: That’s very cool. But who’s everybody?
EXPERT: You start from the list of people based on your
week/end date, and then you can sort the employees on the
list by job order number, or title, or company name...but I
digress. Let’s take a walk through the windows.

ASSOC: Hey, wait a minute! This is a
calendar.
... moving to the October 25 square
on the Employee-on-Assignment
Criteria window (***we need the
updated version where the
individual date selection boxes
show!!***)...
EXPERT: Right. The Employees on
Assignment Criteria window is the
calendar, where you select a week/end
date.
ASSOC: So you’re just clicking on the
date you want, right in the calendar?
...clicking on the square...
EXPERT: You got it. But no matter
what date I click on...
...and the Employee-onAssignment list window displays.
Pointer clicks on a non-selected
row in the bottom half of the
window and the selection arrow
moves to the row and the detail for
that row displays in the upper half
of the window...
EXPERT: ...I’ll see the list of job orders
for that entire week, always ending on a
Sunday. The upper window shows detail
on the order with the selection arrow.
EXPERT: You can select another row for
detail by clicking on it.

ASSOC: That’s great. You chose
another job order that’s in the window.
What if I want to find a job order that’s
further down in the list, but I can’t
remember the job order number? Will I
have to look through the whole list till I
find the company name?
....mouse pointer clicks on the
“Company Name” heading and the
job order list is sorted according to
company name...
EXPERT: Put your brain at ease! You
can sort in ascending order according to a
column heading--including “Company
Name”--by double-clicking on the
heading.
EXPERT: As you can see, the system has
sorted my list by company name.
