DRUG TESTING
The NCAA is dedicated to fair and equitable competition throughout each round of the
championship and strongly supports the drug-testing program in order to safeguard the health
and safety of the participating student-athletes.
Student-Athlete Notification.
Immediately after any established NCAA cool-down period, a member of the drug-testing crew
will notify student-athletes selected for drug testing. Each student-athlete will be instructed to
read and sign the Team Championship Student-Athlete Notification Form. The notification form
will instruct the student-athlete to report to the testing room within 60 minutes, unless otherwise
directed by the crew member. An institutional representative must be present in the drug testing
venue.
Media Obligations.
Each team is provided a post-match cool-down period. At the conclusion of the cool-down
period, a member of the drug-testing crew will notify the student-athletes who have been
selected for testing. Notification may take place in the locker room (if applicable) or on the court.
If a selected student-athlete is scheduled to participate in any post-match news conference, he is
required to attend the news conference first. The student-athlete will be escorted to the drugtesting area after all of his media obligations have been fulfilled.
Next Day Testing.
If competition begins at 10 p.m. or later (local time), both teams will be given the option to defer
testing until the next morning. If a team decides to test the next morning, that determination must
be confirmed by the institution no later than immediately following the contest. Once testing has
begun, testing must be completed and cannot be deferred until the next morning. If deferred until
the following day, the testing must begin no later than 10 a.m. (local time) at the original test
site.
14
Participating Institution’s Notification.
The institutional representative will be notified of drug testing no sooner than two (2) hours prior
to the start of the match by the drug-testing crew chief. After the match, a member of the drugtesting crew will provide the institutional representative with the names of the selected studentathletes.
Prolonged Test.
If the student-athlete’s team must depart the championship venue prior to a student-athlete
completing drug testing, an institutional representative must remain with the student-athlete. If
the student-athlete and/or institution incur additional expenses because of the delay (e.g., hotel,
transportation back to campus, etc.), the institution may request reimbursement from the NCAA.
Testing Process.
Student-athletes are drug tested through urinalysis and must provide a specimen in view of a
drug-testing collector of the same gender. The length of the collection process depends on the
student-athlete’s ability to provide an adequate specimen. If a student-athlete provides an
adequate specimen immediately upon arriving in the drug-testing area, the entire process can be
completed within 20 minutes. If the student-athlete is unable to provide an adequate specimen, he
must remain in the drug-testing area until one is provided. There is no maximum allotted time for
a student-athlete to provide an adequate specimen.
EQUIPMENT
The Molten V5M-5000-3N is the official volleyball for the men’s volleyball championship. Each
team participating at the championship finals will receive two volleyballs after their final match.
EXPENSES/REIMBURSEMENT
Per Diem
Per diem will be paid for the official travel party. The per diem rate and allowable days can be
found in the NCAA travel policies (see link below).

MEDIA SERVICES
Credentials
The following credentials will be distributed at the participating team’s first practice Thursday at
the Kennedy Sports Center:
Each participating institution will receive 22 credentials for the official travel party. A
maximum of seventeen credentials will be provided for student-athletes and five credentials for
coaches and support staff. If requested, a maximum of three additional bench passes will be
provided to each institution. Two of the three bench passes shall be allocated only to medical
personnel (e.g., if a team has only one athletic trainer, the team may receive a maximum of two
bench passes). Each participating institution also will receive a media credential for the sports
information director. This individual is not included in the 22 credentials for the official
traveling party.
Each team will receive two VIP credentials to distribute at its discretion (excluding members of
the media). This credential will allow the holder access to the court at the conclusion of the
18
match and into post-match press conferences. It also allows access into the VIP hospitality area
in the Hall of Fame Room in KSRC. This area is intended for the administrators and coaches of
participating teams. VIP credentials do NOT provide access to the competition facility. If the
holder is not one of the 22 official traveling party members or does not receive a bench pass, he
or she must purchase a ticket to the venue.
Interview Area
The interview area is located on the first floor of the Kennedy Sports and Recreation Center, next
to the athletic training room. Access is restricted to members of the media with media
credentials, team administrators with the VIP credential, and event personnel only. Signs for the
interview area will be placed throughout KSRC.
Interview Policies
In accordance with the NCAA regulations, each team will be provided a 10-minute “cooling off”
period prior to postmatch interviews. The head coach of the winning team, with requested
student-athletes (minimum of two), will be interviewed first. The losing coach and studentathletes will follow the winning coach. This procedure will be followed until the championship
match, after which the losing coach and requested student-athletes will be interviewed first
followed by the winning coach and student-athletes.
All coaches and student-athletes must be made available for post-competition interviews
following the “cooling off” period. This not only applies to formal press conferences, but also to
any interview requests made to coaches and/or student-athletes not involved in the press
conference. Failure to do so may result in possible misconduct, as determined by the men’s
volleyball committee.
Please vacate the court as soon as possible after competition. Parents, fans, and spectators are
NOT allowed on the court at any time.
Sports Information and Media
Juniata sports information director Jennifer Jones will handle all sports information and media
credentials. A credential request will be sent to each participating team’s SID prior to the
championship. Each SID is responsible for collecting this information from their local media
members and returning it to Jennifer at [email protected] or by fax at 814/641-3508 by 5 p.m.
Eastern time Tuesday, April 22. Credentials will be distributed at the competition site and will
not be mailed.
Media Criteria
A media representative, for purposes of credentialing for the men’s volleyball championship,
shall be defined as an authorized representative of a single daily, weekly or monthly publication,
cable system, radio station/network or television station/network. The host SID may authorize
more than one representative per organization, subject to limitations of space.
Webcast
All matches and post-game interviews will be webcast live and available online at
www.NCAA.com.

Concussion Management
The NCAA has adopted legislation that requires all active member institutions to have a
concussion management plan for their student-athletes. Participating institutions shall follow
their concussion management plan while participating in NCAA championships. If a
participating team lacks appropriate medical staff to activate its concussion management plan,
the host championship concussion management plan will be activated.
The legislation notes, in part, that a student-athlete who exhibits signs, symptoms or behaviors
consistent with a concussion shall be removed from athletics activities (e.g., competition,
practice, conditioning sessions) and evaluated by a medical staff member (e.g., sports medicine
staff, team physician) with experience in the evaluation and management of concussions. A
student-athlete diagnosed with a concussion is precluded from returning to athletics activity for
at least the remainder of that calendar day. Medical clearance for return to athletics activity shall
be determined by the team physician or the physician's designee from the student-athlete’s
institution. In the absence of a team physician or their designee, the NCAA tournament
physician will examine the student-athlete and will determine medical clearance.
A concussion is a brain injury that may be caused by a blow to the head, face, neck or elsewhere
on the body with an “impulsive” force transmitted to the head. Concussions can occur without
loss of consciousness or other obvious signs. A repeat concussion that occurs before the brain
recovers from the previous one (hours, days or weeks) can slow recovery or increase the
likelihood of having long-term problems. In rare cases, repeat concussions can result in brain
swelling, permanent brain damage and even death.
For further details please refer to the NCAA Sports Medicine Handbook (concussion information
begins on page 56) at http://www.ncaa.org/health-and-safety/sport-science-institute-policy.
Medical Exams
As the event sponsor, the NCAA seeks to ensure that all student-athletes are physically fit to
participate in its championships and have valid medical clearance to participate in the
competition. The NCAA tournament physician, as designated by the host school, has the
unchallengeable authority to determine whether a student-athlete with an injury, illness or other
medical condition (e.g., skin infection) may expose others to a significantly enhanced risk of
harm and, if so, to disqualify the student-athlete from continued participation. For all other
instances, the student-athlete’s on-site team physician can determine whether a student-athlete
21
with an injury or illness should continue to participate or is disqualified. In the absence of a
team physician, the NCAA tournament physician will examine the student-athlete and has valid
medical authority to disqualify him or her if the student-athlete’s injury, illness or medical
condition poses a potentially life threatening risk to himself or herself. The chair of the
governing sports committee (or a designated representative) shall be responsible for
administrative enforcement of the medical judgment, if it involves disqualification.
OFFICIAL TRAVEL PARTY
Bands/Cheerleaders/Mascots
Cheerleaders and/or spirit team members, not to exceed 12 in number, plus the mascot shall be
admitted, if in uniform, via the gate list furnished to the host institution by the competing
institution’s director of athletics; all other institutional representatives not included in the official
travel party or receiving a bench pass will be admitted only upon presentation of a ticket. A
maximum of 12 cheerleaders and/or spirit team members shall be allowed on the sideline during
the progress of the match. The cheerleaders shall be located in a designated area by the
tournament manager. Band members, not to exceed 25 in number, who are in uniform and
performing at the championship, will not be charged admission to the competition. Bands, or
any component thereof, are allowed to play during timeouts, between sets, and before and after
the competition. All cheerleading squads must conform to the guidelines set by the American
Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Advisors (AACCA). This includes all guidelines and
prohibitions
pertaining
to
partner
stunts
in
indoor
facilities
(see
http://www.aacca.org/content.aspx?item=Resources/college cheerleading safety resources.xml).
Neither the NCAA nor the host institution shall be responsible for supervising or monitoring
routines performed by cheerleaders at championship events. Except as noted in this section,
supervision of cheerleading squads, their activities, yells and stunts are solely the participating
institution’s responsibility. The participating institution shall ensure that the squad has sufficient
training, supervision and equipment for any and all routines its squad may choose to perform.
Tournament directors must inform participating institutions if the host facility has more stringent
requirements and ensure compliance. If so, the director of athletics at each institution must
apprise his or her cheerleading squad of such requirements and ensure compliance. The use of
trampolines, stunts more than two persons high, “basketball tosses” and cheerleader flips are not
permitted. The cheerleading squad is allowed to carry an institutional flag, but it may only be
displayed during the respective team’s timeout or between sets. It cannot be used to taunt
competitors or block spectators’ view.
Bench Assignments
The higher-seeded team is the home team and must wear a light-colored jersey. The lowerseeded team must wear a dark-colored jersey. The home team shall sit to the left of the scorer’s
table as the team faces the table from the court. This policy is in effect even if the host
traditionally uses the opposite bench as the home bench.
Permissible Number
The squad size for championship competition for men’s volleyball is 17. No more than 17
student-athletes may be in uniform on the bench. The team bench is limited to the official
traveling party of 22 plus a maximum of three individuals (including up to two medical
personnel) who will receive bench passes. A bench pass also provides access to the competition
venue. Any individuals not included in the official travel party of 22 or receiving a bench
pass must purchase a ticket for access to the competition venue. The host site will provide
19 bench chairs for each team.
22
Bench Instructions
Please vacate the court as soon as possible after competition. Parents, fans, and spectators are
NOT allowed on the court at any time.
PARTICIPANT EXPECTATIONS AND GUIDELINES
Ethical Behavior by Coaches
Members of the coaching profession have certain inherent obligations and responsibilities to the
profession, to the student-athletes and to all those with whom they come into contact in the field.
Coaches are expected to be role models who conduct themselves with integrity and high ethical
standards at all times.
The words and actions of a coach carry tremendous influence, particularly on the young people
under his or her direction. It is imperative that he or she demonstrate and demand high principles
of sportsmanship and ethical behavior.
Misconduct
Misconduct means any act of dishonesty, unsportsmanlike conduct in practice or competition, or
breach of law that discredits the championship.
Public criticism of officials may subject the individual, institution or conference to the
misconduct provisions.
The committee or games committee is authorized to (1) reprimand publicly or privately, (2)
disqualify from future participation and/or (3) ban from subsequent competition a student-athlete
or representative of the institution who is guilty of misconduct at any time during the
championship.
Sportsmanship
The primary goal of the rules is to maximize the safety and enjoyment of the student-athlete.
Sportsmanship is a key part of that goal. Sportsmanship should be a core value in behavior of
players and bench personnel, in crowd control by game management and in the officials’ proper
enforcement of the rules governing related actions.
Sports Wagering
The NCAA defines sports wagering as putting something at risk – such as an entry fee or a
wager – with the opportunity to win something in return. The NCAA opposes all forms of legal
and illegal sports wagering on college sports. Student-athletes and athletics administrators cannot
place a sports wager for any NCAA-sanctioned sport. This includes wagering on the
intercollegiate, amateur or professional level.
A student-athlete involved in sports wagering on the student-athlete's institution permanently
loses all remaining regular-season and postseason eligibility in all sports. A student-athlete who
is involved in any sports wagering activity that involves college sports or professional athletics
through Internet gambling, a bookmaker, a parlay card or any other method employed by
organized gambling, will be ineligible for all regular-season and postseason competition for at
least one year.
In championships in which a bracket format is used, student-athletes, coaches and administrators
may not participate in bracket competitions where there is both a required entry fee and an
23
opportunity to win a prize. Student-athletes and administrators may participate under current
NCAA rules in bracket contests where there is no entry fee but a possibility of winning a prize.
Some NCAA member schools, however, have chosen to ban student-athletes from participating
in these types of bracket contests.
Tobacco Ban
The use of tobacco products is prohibited by all game personnel (e.g., coaches, trainers,
managers and game officials) in all sports during practice and competition. Uniform penalties (as
determined by the applicable rules-making committees and sports committees with rules-making
responsibilities) shall be established for such use.
The use of tobacco products by a student-athlete is prohibited during practice and competition.
A student-athlete who uses tobacco products during a practice or competition shall be
disqualified for the remainder of that practice or competition.
TEAM TRAVEL
Please fax the travel information sheet (Appendix C) to Leah Poiner at 814/641-3508 by 5 p.m.
Eastern time Friday April 18. The team advancing from the play-in match will have a deadline
of Tuesday, April 22 at 1 p.m.
Transportation
Participating institutions shall be completely responsible for making their own travel reservations
in accordance with the established travel policies.
The NCAA’s official travel agency for the tournament is Short’s Travel Management, which can
be reached at 866/655-9215. Institutions can also enter travel manifest and other travel party
information through the travel portal at www.shortstravel.com/ncaachamps.
The NCAA has adopted the policies below with respect to the travel and expenses incurred by
the competing institution.
Air Transportation
Participating institutions shall be required to make all air travel arrangements with the official
travel agency for the approved travel party. The NCAA will pay the agency directly for such
costs. Institutions who fail to use the official agency will not receive reimbursement for their
travel. When reasonable commercial space for air travel is not available, chartered flights may
be offered to the traveling institution. In this case, the cost of the chartered flight will be fully
paid for by the NCAA for the official traveling party. If reasonable commercial space is available
but the institution chooses to travel by charter, the NCAA will only cover the cost of the
commercial flight. The institution will be responsible for any additional cost for their chartered
flight and will be billed by the official travel agency. In addition, the institution may choose to
take additional travelers over the allowable travel party size. The cost for additional travelers
must be paid by the institution. All charter arrangements must be made through the official travel
agency. The NCAA travel department is responsible for making the determination of what
should be considered reasonable options for the official traveling party.
24
The NCAA will reimburse fees for checked baggage charged by commercial airlines. While we
encourage you to take as few bags as necessary, a maximum of two bags per person will be
reimbursed. Fees for oversized or overweight bags will not be reimbursed.
The NCAA will not reimburse fees charged by the airlines to pre-assign seats, choose premium
seats or receive priority check-in.
Hub Rule
If an institution is eligible to use air transportation to the site of the tournament game and there is
a major airport located within 150 miles of the tournament site, then the participating institution
is required to fly into/out of that airport and use ground transport to and from the site of
competition. This also applies if the originating airport is located within 150 miles of the
participating institution’s campus. This policy only applies when airfare is less expensive from
the more distant airport. The NCAA travel staff may increase this mileage limit if circumstances
warrant.
Ground Transportation
Teams located within the designated mileage limit of the competition site are required to travel
via ground transportation. Mileage reimbursement is calculated using the mileage calculator
available through the online reimbursement system.
Local transportation is not reimbursable by the NCAA and must be paid by the institution.
Transportation between the team’s hotel and the competition or practice site is considered local
transportation. Please see the NCAA travel policies for the applicable mileage limits.
When teams are required to travel by ground transportation to the site of competition or are
eligible for reimbursement at the site, bus transportation will be provided through the NCAA
charter bus transportation program.
Charter Bus Transportation Program
Participating institutions shall be required to make all ground transportation arrangements with
the official NCAA provider, GO Ground Options. The NCAA will pay for the services directly.
Institutions will not have to seek reimbursement for the ground transportation costs that are
reimbursable under the NCAA travel policy. For the charter bus costs that are not covered by the
NCAA travel policy, an institution will have the option, at its own expense, to use the charter bus
services contracted by GO Ground. Institutions will be required to pay for those services at the
time the reservations are made with GO Ground.
The NCAA will pay the actual costs for charter buses. The number of buses paid for is
determined by the travel party size for each sport. Per the transportation policies, the NCAA will
reimburse the following:
Teams that are required to drive to the site of competition:
The NCAA will pay the actual costs of the bus for the round trip from campus to the site of
competition, including all days at the site.
Teams that fly to the site of competition:
If campus is 25 miles or more from the departure airport, the NCAA will pay the cost of the
airport transfers, both on departure and on return.
25
If the arrival airport is 25 miles or more from the site of competition, the NCAA will pay the cost
of the bus for the day the team arrives and the day the team departs. Any days in between are
considered local transportation and are at the expense of the institution.
If either of the legs described above are less than 25 miles, no costs will be paid by the NCAA
since local transportation is at the cost of the institution.
Institutions can contact GO Ground at 866/386-4951. Their online ground transportation portal
can be accessed at www.gochampionships.com. The username and password is the same as that
used for the Short’s Travel portal.
Per Diem
Per diem will be paid for the official traveling party. The per diem rate and allowable days can
be found in the NCAA travel policies.
Expense Reimbursement
Team expense reports should be filed online through the Travel Expense System (TES). The
login information for the system is the same as that used for the Short’s travel portal. The
system is located at the following link:
http://www.ncaa.org/championships/travel/championships-travel-information
All institutions, including hosts, must complete the online reimbursement process in order to
receive the appropriate reimbursement.
Travel Exceptions: Be advised that if extraordinary circumstances warrant an exception to
the travel policies, you must contact the NCAA travel department for approval PRIOR TO
making any travel arrangements. Requests for additional per diem can be made through
the online reimbursement system. Questions regarding travel policies or requests for
assistance can be directed to the travel group at 317/917- 6757 or [email protected].

TROPHIES AND AWARDS
All-Tournament Team
The men’s volleyball committee will select an all-tournament team for the championship. Seven
players, including a Most Outstanding Player, will be selected. The all-tournament team will be
announced immediately after the presentation of the awards for the championship match. Each
member of the all-tournament team will receive a plaque after the championship that will be
shipped to the coach.
Official Awards
Official NCAA awards will be presented to the official traveling party for each team
participating in the championship. The national championship trophy will be presented to the
championship team. The championship team will also receive 22 NCAA watches and 22 NCAA
championship mini-trophies. The second-place team will receive one second-place team trophy
and 22 second-place mini-trophies. The two remaining semi-finalist teams will each receive one
semi-finalist team trophy and 22 semi-finalist mini-trophies. Teams will have the opportunity to
purchase additional awards at the level to which its team advanced in the championship (i.e., if a
team receives mini-trophies, that team may purchase additional mini-trophies). The remaining
four teams will receive participant medallions for their squad size (17 per team).
27
NCAA Academic Recognition Program: ELITE 89 Award
The Elite 89 award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point
average competing at the final site for each of the 89 NCAA championships. Each institution
that has at least one student-athlete qualify for the final round/site is eligible to nominate a
student-athlete for the award. All ties are broken by number of credits completed.
For more information regarding this program, please contact Mark Bedics, Ryan Hall or Juliette
Kenny (317/917-6222; [email protected]). All documents, including deadlines and nomination
forms, are available on the NCAA website. The submission deadline for nomination for the
Division III Men’s Volleyball Championship is Tuesday, April 22 at 5 p.m. Eastern time.
Student-Athlete Participation Award (Memento)
An apparel item will be among the participation awards being provided to student-athletes who
advance to the championship finals site again this year. This item will be sent to your institution
for distribution to your student-athletes after the conclusion of the championship. The NCAA, in
conjunction with PPI Sports, Inc., will communicate directly to participating institutions’
head coaches regarding the ordering and delivery process of these participation awards.
Once you receive instructions in an email, respond to Mark Williams from PPI with the
appropriate sizes to be ordered. If, for some reason, you fail to receive information for ordering
awards within two weeks after your event, please contact Mr. Williams or the NCAA
championship administrator for your sport.
If you would like to purchase additional awards, or have questions with the ordering process,
please contact Mr. Williams at 612/379-3859 or [email protected].
The picture below is an example of the awards that will be sent to each of your student-athletes
after the championship.
28
UNIFORMS
Each team must bring two sets of jerseys of different colors. The home team will wear a lightcolored jersey. The away team will wear a dark-colored jersey. The NCAA men’s volleyball
committee will make the final decision if additional jerseys are not available.
All uniforms must meet the provisions of Bylaw 12.5.3 regarding commercial identification.
Participants at the championship site will be provided an NCAA patch that must go on the left
chest or left sleeve if there is a logo already on the left chest.
Laundry services will be made available for all advancing teams. For further information
regarding laundry services, please contact Tony Nabozny, equipment manager, at 814/641-3517.
Logo Policy
[Reference: Bylaw 12.5.3 in the NCAA Division III Manual.]
The provisions of Bylaw 12.5.3 indicate that an institution’s official uniform and all other items
of apparel (e.g., socks, headbands, T-shirts, wristbands, visors or hats, and towels) that are worn
by student-athletes in competition may bear a single manufacturer’s or distributor’s normal
trademark, not to exceed 2 1/4-square inches in area, including any additional material (e.g.,
patch) surrounding the normal trademark or logo.
In addition, an institution’s official uniform cannot bear a design element similar to the
manufacturer’s that is in addition to another logo or that is contrary to the size restrictions.
A student-athlete representing an institution in intercollegiate competition is limited to wearing
apparel items that include only the logo (not to exceed 2 1/4-square inches) of an apparel
manufacturer or distributor. The student-athlete may not wear any apparel that identifies any
other entity, other than the student-athlete’s institution.
These restrictions apply to all apparel worn by student-athletes during the conduct of
competition, which includes any practices and prematch or postmatch activities.
This bylaw will be strictly enforced at all NCAA championships and the names of individuals
and institutions that are not in compliance with this bylaw shall be forwarded to the NCAA
enforcement staff. Non-compliance with this legislation could result in loss of eligibility,
forfeiture of points earned by those ineligible student-athletes and adjustment of team standings.
EVACUATION/CRISIS MANAGEMENT PLAN
In the event of an emergency during the championship, an announcement will be made over the
public address system. The designated outdoor meeting space is Ellis Hall.

APPENDIX I
OPENING CEREMONIES
For each match, the host institution should supply marshall music conducive to teams marching in.
1.
After completion of the match protocol, the parade of players and officials will take place as follows:
a.
Line-Up. Players, referees, the scorekeeper, the libero tracker and the line judges will leave the court through the players'
entrance and line up as follows [Note: Coaches may remain at team bench]: the first referee, followed by the second
referee, the alternate referee, the scorekeeper, the libero tracker and the line judges, the team that will play on the side of
the net farthest from the entrance, and finally, the other team. It is suggested that teams line up with the team captain(s)
first, followed by the rest of the team, in numerical order by uniform number. The NCAA site representative should assist
in staging the line-up and march.
b.
March. To the accompaniment of marshall music, the referees, scorekeeper, libero tracker, line judges and players will
enter in line. The referees and other officials will march along the outside of the court by the most direct route to a place in
front of the referee's stand and face the court. The referees will pass under the net to a spot immediately beyond the net.
The scorekeeper, libero tracker and the line judges will not pass under the net, remaining on the "near" side of the net. The
team going to the farthest side of the court will pass along the outside of the court opposite from the referees and line up on
the back line facing the court with the captain(s) at the right back corner. The opposing team will go directly to the other
back line and line up facing the court with the captain(s) at the right back corner.
2.
The national anthem will be played prior to the first match each day, after the teams are on the court. All players, coaches and
officials are introduced at this time.
3.
After the introduction, the referee signals the team captains to come to the net and shake hands, followed immediately by the rest
of the players. THERE WILL BE NO EXCHANGE OF TOKENS.
4.
The floor is cleared and the starting players immediately return to the floor.
5.
Play commences.
