Major changes that appear in this update to requirements for accreditation, policies,
procedures, and other information include the following:

Revised and added elements of performance (EPs) applicable to hospitals that use
Joint Commission accreditation for deemed status purposes to maintain alignment
with requirements from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)
following the release of a final rule in 2012, effective September 1, 2012
2012. These
changes address, among other issues, qualifications of staff, use of pre-printed or
standing medication orders, authentication of verbal and written orders, and death
of a patient in restraints.
