INTRODUCTION
Congratulations! Your team has qualified for the 2014 National Collegiate Men’s Gymnastics
National Qualifier to be held on Thursday, April 10, 2014.
This participant manual will be helpful as a guide to the policies and procedures governing the
administration and conduct of this championship event. Further, this manual will provide
specific information on hotel arrangements, travel, tickets, event schedules and other
important championship information.
The top quality of this championship is only superseded by the excellent achievement on the
gym floor. Similar to your team, we understand that thorough preparation is the key to success.
That is why we are excited about the upcoming championship. Good luck and we will see you
soon!

2014 NCAA MENS GYMNASTICS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP | April 10-12, 2014
NATIONAL QUALIFIER
QUALIFICATION
The top 10 teams, in addition to the conference champions from the Big Ten Conference and
the Eastern College Athletic Conference, the top five all-around competitors who are not
members of a selected team, and the top five individuals per event who are not members of a
selected team or have not already been selected in the all-around, will compete in the national
qualifying meet. The next two alternates will be identified for each event and will be inserted if
a scratch occurs. Not more than 15 competitors may represent any one institution.
TIES
Ties will be broken using the following guidelines (in priority order):
NATIONAL QUALIFIER — TEAM
1.
Conference championship score;
2.
Highest away score; and
3.
Second highest away score. Keep evaluating regular-season scores until the tie
has been broken.
NATIONAL QUALIFIER — INDIVIDUAL
1.
Ties will not be broken. All tied individuals will be invited to attend the national
qualifier.
MEET FORMAT
The meet format will consist of six rotations of six groups.
INDIVIDUAL QUALIFIERS
Student-athletes who qualify as individuals in the all-around and individual events will be
placed with one of the six teams in each session of the national qualifier. Every attempt will be
made to keep members of the same team in the same session. The individual qualifiers will
perform first on each apparatus.
JUDGING
Four judges will be used for each event.
SEEDING
At the national qualifier, the national qualifying average will be used to determine the seeding
of teams in each session. The highest qualifying team in each session will be given first choice of
starting position. Then, the second-highest qualifying team in each session will be asked to
choose its starting event, followed by the third-highest team, etc.
Teams that do not enter their scores on the CGA computer on time may not get to choose
according to their seeding. If the host institution is participating in the team portion, its entire
group will compete in Session II. If the host institution does not qualify as a team, the No. 1
seed will get to select their session.
12
2014 NCAA MENS GYMNASTICS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP | April 10-12, 2014
GROUPING
Group One: Seed Nos. 1, 4, 5, 8, 9 and 12
Group Two: Seed Nos. 2, 3, 6, 7, 10 and 11
WARM-UP
There will be a controlled warm-up on the competition floor. Each group will have 12 minutes
per event and a one-minute transition time.
Equipment may be adjusted and prepared, but teams cannot warm up until cued by the
announcer. This will be strictly enforced and a penalty may be applied for violations. Each group
will finish its warm-up on the apparatus it has drawn as its first competition event.
A three-minute warm-up will be allowed before each rotation.
LINEUP CHANGES
Official roster changes may be made up until the timed warm-ups for the national qualifier
begin. Communicate all roster changes to ProScore.
COMPETITION FORMAT
All six events in the national qualifier sessions will be in progress simultaneously. Five gymnasts
may compete on each event, with all scores per event counting toward the team score. When a
sixth competitor performs to complete the all-around, his score only counts for the all-around
and not for the team score.
Two public address announcers will control the flow of competition. At the start of each
rotation, Announcer One will announce the first competitors on floor exercise and pommel
horse. Announcer Two will immediately announce the first competitors on vault and parallel
bars. Announcer One will announce the first still rings competitor after the completion of the
first floor exercise or pommel horse routine, whichever finishes first. Announcer Two will
announce the first horizontal bar routine after the completion of the first vault or parallel bar
routine, whichever finishes first. This format will be continued until all events have finished for
the rotation.
13

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
TEAM FINALS, ALL-AROUND FINALS AND INDIVIDUAL EVENT PRELIMS
QUALIFICATION
Three teams and the top three all-around competitors not on one of the qualifying teams, plus
the top three individuals on each event not already qualified on a team or as an all-around
competitor, will advance from each qualifying session to the championships. Not more than 15
competitors may represent any one institution. March-in will be limited to 15 individuals. Any
participant in the championships is eligible to win an award for any event.
TIES
Ties will be broken using the following guidelines (in priority order):
CHAMPIONSHIP — TEAM
1.
The National Qualifying Average score; and
2.
The National Qualifying score from the prelims.
CHAMPIONSHIP — ALL-AROUND
1.
Highest qualifier individual-event place; and
2.
Next highest individual-event score, etc., until the tie is broken.
PRELIMINARY INDIVIDUAL — EVENT
1.
National qualifying average.
MEET FORMAT
The meet format will consist of six rotations of six groups. Each group will consist of one team,
one event specialist and one all-around competitor. The No. 1-ranked event specialist and allaround competitor from Session I will compete with the No. 1-ranked team from Session I, the
No. 2 event specialist and all-around competitor with the No. 2 team, etc. The event specialist
will compete in the first position, followed by the all-around competitor and then the team.
JUDGING
Four judges will be used for each event.
STARTING EVENT
The starting event for the six teams participating in the national championships will be decided
immediately after the evening session of the national qualifier. If a coach is not available to
select his team’s starting position, the team will be assigned its starting position after all other
coaches present have selected. Positions for the team finals will be determined as follows:
First choice — Session winner with highest score from the national qualifier
Second choice — Other session winner
Third choice — Second-place team from the same session as the team with the highest score
Fourth choice — Other second-place team
Fifth choice — Third-place team from the same session as the team with the highest score
Sixth choice — Other third-place team
14
2014 NCAA MENS GYMNASTICS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP | April 10-12, 2014
WARM-UP
There will be a controlled warm-up on the competition floor. This warm-up will be restricted to
five members from the qualified teams plus the one event specialist and one all-around
competitor. The individual-event alternate will be allowed to warm up during open warm up
but must remain in the stands once the controlled warm-up begins. Each group will have 13
minutes per event and a one-minute transition time.
LINE-UP CHANGES
Official roster changes may be made up until the timed warm-ups for the Team Finals begin.
Communicate all roster changes to ProScore.
COMPETITION FORMAT
The public address announcers will announce the first competitors on floor exercise, pommel
horse and still rings. When the floor exercise competitor completes his routine, the vault
performer will be announced; when the pommel horse competitor dismounts, the parallel bars
competitor will be announced; when the still rings competitor dismounts, the horizontal bar
competitor will be announced. Throughout the competition, three competitors will be
competing at the same time.
AWARDS
The all-around and team awards will be presented at the end of the competition session.

2014 NCAA MENS GYMNASTICS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP | April 10-12, 2014
NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
INDIVIDUAL EVENT FINALS
QUALIFICATION
The scores from individual-event preliminaries will be used to advance 10 individuals in each
event. Ties resulting in more than 10 finalists will not be allowed. One alternate per event will
be allowed. No scores will be carried into the individual finals.
Once the event begins, no substitutions will be made. No more than four gymnasts from any
one team may be a finalist on the same event.
TIES
Ties will be broken using the following guidelines (in priority order):
CHAMPIONSHIP INDIVIDUAL — EVENT
1.
Score from the national qualifier
2.
National qualifying average.
3.
D Score from national qualifier.
DRAW
Competitive placement for individual-event finals will be done by a computer draw. The top five
scores will compete last in a random order. The bottom five preliminary scores will go first in a
random order. Ties will be resolved before the random draw.
Provision has been made to ensure any competitor who qualifies for more than one event
being run simultaneously will have at least eight performers between his performances.
JUDGES
Each event will use six judges; two D+E and four E judges. The middle four scores will be
averaged to arrive at the final score.
WARM-UP
There will be an open warm-up prior to the Individual Event Finals session. At the conclusion of
the first-half performances, there will be a five-minute warm-up period.
SCRATCHES
Communicate scratches from the Individual Event Finals to ProScore.

CREDENTIALS
The Travel Information/Roster/Banquet Form is to be submitted to the host institution by
Thursday, April 3 at 5:00 p.m. (EST). Team credentials will be issued from this list. All
credentials will designate name and affiliation.
Team: Each team may receive 15 participant credentials (with 3 being paid for by the
institution) and six non-participants (i.e., coaches, trainer and manager). This is for the travel
party. Each team may also request up to two additional credentials for institutional
administrators.
Up to six “Floor Access Only” credentials may be provided to student-athletes who are not
listed as part of the travel party. Floor access credentials are only good for access to the floor
during open practice sessions. Official roster changes may be made up until the timed warmups begin for both the National Qualifier and the National Championships. Communicate all
roster changes to ProScore. Credentials of athletes removed from your official roster should be
presented at the time the change is made, and a new student athlete credential will be
provided for the alternate.
Once a controlled warm-up period begins, only 21 members of the travel party may be on the

An issued credential may not be given to another team member or individual. Institutions must
purchase a ticket for any individual over the travel party of 23.
INDIVIDUAL Institutions with one to four participants will receive four non-participant
credentials. Institutions with five to 10 participants will receive five non-participant credentials.
Institutions with 11 or 15 participants will receive six non-participant credentials.

2014 NCAA MENS GYMNASTICS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP | April 10-12, 2014
DRUG TESTING
NCAA championship committees, following a recommendation from the NCAA drug-testing
subcommittee, have discontinued the practice of announcing whether drug testing will be
conducted at NCAA championship events.
Although knowing prior to competition whether NCAA drug testing was to occur had value for
reasons of convenience, it left open the possibility that student-athletes might be tempted to
use banned substances if they knew that NCAA testing was not being conducted at the site of
competition.
Therefore, all coaches and student-athletes should presume that NCAA drug testing will occur
at this championship event. Please inform your student-athletes that in the event they are
notified of their selection for drug testing, the student-athlete must inform an official
representative of your institution (e.g. coach, athletics trainer) before proceeding to the drugtesting site. Student-athletes will be reminded by the courier to contact their team
representative.
ELITE 89 ACADEMIC RECOGNITION PROGRAM
The Elite 89 award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point
average competing at the finals site for each of the NCAA’s 89 championships. Each institution
that has at least one student-athlete qualify for the finals round/site is eligible to nominate a
student-athlete to win the award for that championship. All ties are broken by number of
credits completed. For more information regarding this program, please contact Mark Bedics or
Andrew Cardamone at [email protected] or 317/917-6222. All documents, including deadlines
and nomination forms can be obtained at the following location – Elite 89 forms. You must be
logged into the site to access the page. The submission deadline for nomination for men’s
gymnastics is Friday, April 4 at 1 p.m. Eastern Time.
EQUIPMENT
The equipment to be used in the championships will be furnished by American Athletic, Inc.
(AAI). All equipment used on the competition floor will be supplied by the official equipment
company. A list of equipment is available on ncaa.org. Please note the University of Michigan
will use a gymnastics podium for this championship.

EVACUATION PLAN
In the event of an emergency developing within Crisler Center, Event Team Members will be
called upon to assist in the safe evacuation of guests from the premises. Panic is one of the
major causes of injury in an evacuation. By acting in a calm manner, our team can reduce the
panic, which naturally occurs when people are confronted with the possibility of injury or even
death. In the event of an emergency evacuation for any reason, the following is the protocol for
all Event Team Members:
TICKET TAKERS
-
Ticket Takers designated as “stay” Ticket Takers should report to the exterior door they
are assigned to.
If other Ticket Takers are still in the arena, they should also report to the exterior gate
that they are assigned to.
Should ensure that all doors are opened.
Should ensure that all doors are free of obstructions.
Should direct guests in the opposite direction and away from any danger.
USHERS
-
Should ensure that all portals are free of obstructions and not blocked.
Ushers in the lower bowl should stand on the inner concourse outside of their assigned
sections and direct guests to the nearest exits.
Ushers in the upper bowl should stand on the outer concourse and direct guests to the
nearest exit.
Ushers in handicapped sections should ensure that guests with a disability or in a
wheelchair are the first guests escorted onto the concourse.
Ushers on the floor should direct any guests that come onto the floor to use the tunnel
exit.
TUNNEL TEAM MEMBERS
-
22
Should assist with removing the team, media, band, staff and guests from the court
through the tunnel.

MISCONDUCT/ETHICAL BEHAVIOR BY
COACHES/SPORTSMANSHIP/SPORTS WAGERING
CRITICISM OF OFFICIALS Members of the coaching staff or other representatives of
participating institutions or conferences shall not make public statements critical of officiating
in any NCAA championship event. Failure to comply with this policy may subject the individual,
institution or conference to the misconduct provisions of Bylaw 31.1.10.
ADMINISTRATIVE MEETING Each games committee shall hold an administrative meeting with
the coaches of participating institutions to review and explain the policies related to
misconduct.
HEARING OPPORTUNITY An act of misconduct may be found upon an administrative hearing
granted to the student-athlete or the institutional representative involved by the governing
sports committee or the games committee authorized to act for it.
MISCONDUCT INCIDENT TO COMPETITION If the act of misconduct occurs during the
competition, under normal circumstances the individual shall be allowed to complete the
competition in which he or she is participating at the time of the incident. An administrative
hearing shall be held at the conclusion of the day’s competition, during a break in the continuity
of the championship (e.g., between rounds of a basketball tournament) when no competition is
being conducted or at the conclusion of the championship. However, if the act of misconduct is
so flagrant that it obviously violates the principles of fair play and sportsmanship, the games
committee may immediately withdraw the student-athlete or institutional representative from
the competition and conduct the hearing after this action. Other acts of misconduct may be
dealt with at the governing sports committee’s convenience.
26
2014 NCAA MENS GYMNASTICS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP | April 10-12, 2014
ETHICAL BEHAVIOR BY COACHES
Members of the coaching profession have certain inherent obligations and responsibilities to
the profession, to the student-athletes and to all those with whom they come into contact.
Coaches are expected to be role models who conduct themselves with integrity and high ethical
standards at all times.
The words and actions of a coach carry tremendous influence, particularly on the young people
under his or her direction. It is, thus, imperative that he or she demonstrate and demand high
principles of sportsmanship and ethical behavior.
SPORTSMANSHIP
The primary goal of the rules is to maximize the safety and enjoyment of the student-athlete.
Sportsmanship is a key part of that goal. Sportsmanship should be a core value in behavior of
players and bench personnel, in crowd control by game management and in the officials’
proper enforcement of the rules governing related actions.
SPORTS WAGERING
The NCAA defines sports wagering as putting something at risk – such as an entry fee or a
wager – with the opportunity to win something in return. The NCAA opposes all forms of legal
and illegal sports wagering on college sports. Student athletes and athletics administrators
cannot place a sports wager for any NCAA-sanctioned sport. This includes wagering on the
intercollegiate, amateur or professional level.
A student-athlete involved in sports wagering on the student-athlete’s institution permanently
loses all remaining-regular season and postseason eligibility in all sports. A student-athlete who
is involved in any sports wagering activity that involves college sports or professional athletics,
through Internet gambling, a bookmaker, a parlay card or any other method employed by
organized gambling, will be ineligible for all regular-season and postseason competition for at
least one year.
In championships in which a bracket format is used, student-athletes, coaches and
administrators may not participate in bracket competitions where there is both a required
entry fee and an opportunity to win a prize. Student-athletes and administrators may
participate under current NCAA rules, in bracket contests where there is no entry fee but a
possibility of winning a prize. Some NCAA member schools, however, have chosen to ban
student-athletes from participating in these types of bracket contests.

APPENDIXES
CODE OF ETHICS FOR JUDGES AND COACHES OF NCAA MEN’S GYMNASTICS CHAMPIONSHIPS
It is imperative to the dignity and growth of the sport of gymnastics that judges be well-educated in the
details of gymnastics and the current rules, and are thoroughly prepared for each assignment to cover
all possible circumstances. The following code of ethics for judges and coaches is mandated, and
coaches in violation may be subject to NCAA misconduct provisions.
QUALIFICATION: It is the duty of each judge to prepare himself thoroughly and constantly update his
preparation by recertifying his national card each year. He shall not accept any judging assignment for
which he does not feel well-qualified. All judges must be nationally certified. State-rated judges are not
acceptable for dual meets or tournaments.
APPEARANCE: Each judge shall be prompt and shall dress and conduct himself with the dignity
appropriate to his status. Coaches shall help set and maintain such standards. Judges shall wear a darkblue coat, gray slacks, and a shirt and tie.
ACTIVITIES: Each judge shall confine his activities to the purpose for which he is assigned. This does not
include coaching, demonstrating or recruiting. Coaches will not ask judges to double as coaches.
IMPARTIALITY: Every judge will avoid even the appearance of partisanship. For example, a judge will
avoid:
1. Judging a meet involving an institution he attends or at which he is employed in the athletic
department.
2. Judging any meet when he feels prejudiced toward any competing team.
3. Traveling with one of the competing teams to or from the meet, except on commercial
transportation.
4. Accepting overnight lodging invitations with competitors or coaches before or after a meet.
5. Accepting social invitations from the host coach before or after the meet, unless the opposing
coach also is included.
6. Giving any appearance, especially at the meet, of any particular friendship with any coach or
competitor.
7. Leaving the judges’ designated seating area during warm-ups.
COACHES’ RESTRICTIONS
Coaches will avoid even the appearance of courting partisanship or unprofessional behavior. For
example, coaches may not:
1. Discuss with judges before the meet the rules and their interpretations, unless the opposing
coach also is included.
2. Offer gifts, favors or privileges to judges that can be interpreted as attempts to influence their
judgments in favor of his team.
3. As home coaches, act as announcers of their own competition.
4. Make public statements critical of judging.
5. Each athlete/team must be accompanied by a paid member of the school’s gymnastics staff
unless prior arrangements have been approved by NCAA committee.
CONDUCT OF COMPETITION
1. It is the duty of officials and coaches to see that every gymnastics competition is conducted with
full regard for the safety of and justice to all competitors, and the edification and pleasure of the
spectators.
2. Judges must maintain appropriate separation, arrive at scores independently and adhere strictly
to score-flashing procedures in accordance with the NCAA modifications and FIG Code of Points.
