In order to deliver consistent programs, it is important that everyone follow these Policies as well as our Club By-Laws and Club Code of Conduct. The Policies are for your benefit in helping you throughout the year. For additional information on our By-Laws, Code of Conduct, other Policies and the G. Caboto Soccer Club Strategic Plan, see the Club’s web site at www.cabotosoccer.com. Links are maintained from the website to other soccer sites such as the CSA, OSA and various Ontario leagues where applicable/relevant published rules can also be found. Philosophy Whether they are in a Recreational program with our affiliates (South Windsor Youth Soccer Club or McAuliffe Park Soccer), or within Caboto Soccer’s Competitive (Rep) Development programs, every player within Caboto Soccer deserves the opportunity to develop their abilities to their fullest extent. Those players who are further along in their development at this particular point in time become part of our Competitive (Rep) Development programs. That being said, those players still have a great deal of learning to do. Skill development in youth soccer is more important than winning, and we at G. Caboto S.C. firmly stand by this, especially between the ages of 8 to 13. We do not and cannot expect a young soccer player to win before they have acquired the skills with which to be successful. Winning and losing is all part of an athlete’s development at the latter stages. G. Caboto Soccer Club will focus its resources on skill development. As players mature, they need to be given the freedom to move up or down the competitive spectrum; depending on what environment best meets their developmental needs. Players Any player (and his or her parents) interested in being part of the Competitive (Rep) Program at G. Caboto Soccer Club must agree to this philosophy, and must have a clear understanding that their development is ongoing. It is important to understand that selection to a team in a current year is not a permanent placement. Players develop at different rates. Selection to an A, B or C team is simply an indication of where a player is in relation to his or her peers at that particular point in time. Players who improve and develop will be given the opportunity to play at a higher level, if it is the correct environment for their development. Likewise, players who do not continue to progress consistently may need to move to a less competitive environment in order to fulfill their potential. The G. Caboto Soccer Club Competitive (Rep) policy is that all players must be committed to skill development and the challenges of playing in a highly competitive environment. Our goal is to provide each Competitive (Rep) player with the opportunity to play at a level that meets his or her developmental needs. In order to create this environment and build a culture of skill development, we expect all players being asked to move up or down to make themselves available to the enquiring team. If two teams have a game on the same night, priority will be given to the higher team. Exceptions will be considered for vacations, work, etc., but the player must make every attempt to play. Commitment to training is critical to the development of the player, as a player will only get out of training what he or she puts in. Competitive Environment While competition is an important component of player development, a “win at all costs” mentality is not. The development of players is most important. Focusing on skill development will give players the best chance to be successful in the game over a sustained period of time. G. Caboto Soccer Club will create a competitive environment that meets the needs of every player in the Competitive (Rep) program, and will allow players the opportunity to develop in their own time. 3 Coaching Applications 1.
