It can be used with any VersaTech I Recloser running firmware version 2.xx, 3.xx, or 4.xx. The WiFi radio attaches in the same location as the current remote radios and has the capability to communicate up to 100 feet from the recloser. Hardware Requirements: 1. Versa-Tech I Recloser with FW v2.xx, 3.xx, or 4.xx 2. Windows machine (XP, 7) or Apple iPad (for use only with Versa-Tech I Recloser with FW v4.xx) 3. WiFi Remote Radio 4. Battery pack of +12V Software Requirements: 1. Versa-Tech I Programmer 4.50 The Versa-Tech I Programmer 4.50 can be found on the Hubbell USB Flash Drive that was included with the unit or by visiting http://www.hubbellpowersystems.com/switching/dist/reclosers/ 2. Versa-Tech Single Phase Recloser Programmer iPad app (for use only with VersaTech I Recloser with FW v4.xx) which is available for download from the Apple App Store ©2014 Hubbell Incorporated | Versa-Tech® I WiFi Remote Radio Instructions Manual 4 Installation Replacing existing Digi/SiFLEX radios with the WiFi Remote Radio: Step 1: If the recloser is installed on the line, make sure to bypass the unit. Refer to the Versa-Tech Single-Phase Recloser "Installation, Operation and Maintenance Manual" for further information. Step 2: Remove the +12V battery from the recloser. Step 3: Remove the existing Digi / SiFLEX radio from the recloser. Step 4: Go to Step 1 below "Connecting to a Versa-Tech I Recloser with the WiFi Remote Radio". Connecting with a Personal Computer Connecting to a Versa-Tech I Recloser with the WiFi Remote Radio: Step 1: If the WiFi Remote Radio is not attached to the serial port of the Versa-Tech I Recloser, attach it with the provided mounting screws. Step 2: Ensure that the +12V battery pack is inserted into the recloser unit firmly. If the recloser sees a current less than 10A, power cycle (pull the handle down and then push it backup) the NR handle (red) once to turn the remote radio on for 10 minutes. The NR handle (red) can also be left in the down position to power the WiFi radio for 60 minutes. If the current is more than 10A the WiFi radio is always ON. Step 3: Open up the wireless networks on the PC. Click "Connect" under the wireless network HPSVT1_SNX where X is the serial number of the WiFi Remote Radio. ©2014 Hubbell Incorporated | Versa-Tech® I WiFi Remote Radio Instructions Manual 5 Step 4: Enter the security key "hubbell1234" when prompted. Step 5: Launch the Versa-Tech Single Phase Programmer by double clicking the icon on the desktop. Step 6: Highlight the appropriate port and click "Identify Device". Step 7: Once the WiFi Remote Radio is identified, the "Connect" button will become populated. ©2014 Hubbell Incorporated | Versa-Tech® I WiFi Remote Radio Instructions Manual 6 Step 8: Click "Connect". Step 9: The "Status" box will show "Connected" once communication has been established. ©2014 Hubbell Incorporated | Versa-Tech® I WiFi Remote Radio Instructions Manual 7 Step 10: The Versa-Tech I Recloser is now ready to be programmed. Refer to the Versa-Tech Single-Phase Recloser "Installation, Operation and Maintenance Manual > Section 6 - Control Programming" for further detailed information on programming the recloser. Changing the WiFi Settings (SSID and Passphrase): If desired, the WiFi SSID and Passphrase can be changed by following the steps listed below. Step 1: Once connected to the recloser through the user interface, go to the "Time and Security” tab. Step 2: Check the box next to "Wi-Fi Settings". The SSID and Passphrase fields will clear out. ©2014 Hubbell Incorporated | Versa-Tech® I WiFi Remote Radio Instructions Manual 8 Step 3: Type the desired SSID and Passphrase in the fields. When changing the SSID, only the suffix portion can be changed. "HPSVT1" remains constant. Only the suffix portion needs to be typed in the SSID field. For instance, in the below example, the wireless network will show the SSID as "HPSVT1-ABCElecCoop". Note: If only the SSID is to be changed, the "Passphrase" field can be left blank. If only the Passphrase is to be changed, skip to the section "Changing the WiFi Settings (Passphrase Only)". Step 4: Click "Commit". Step 5: The below window will appear. Click "OK". Step 6: The below error may appear since the SSID and Passphrase used to connect to the recloser for this session is no longer valid. Step 8: Open up the wireless networks on the PC. The new SSID connection should appear. If the security key was changed, enter the new passphrase. If it was not, enter the old passphrase "hubbell1234". Click "OK". Step 11: The wireless network should now show "Connected" next to the new SSID. Step 12: Launch the Versa-Tech Single Phase Programmer. The new SSID should now be populated under "Port". Step 13: Proceed to Step 6 through Step 10 in the "Connecting to a Versa-Tech I Recloser with the WiFi Remote Radio" section of this document. ©2014 Hubbell Incorporated | Versa-Tech® I WiFi Remote Radio Instructions Manual 11 Changing the WiFi Settings (Passphrase only): If desired, the WiFi Passphrase can be changed by following the steps listed below. Step 1: Once connected to the recloser through the user interface, go to the "Time and Security” tab. Step 2: Check the box next to "Wi-Fi Settings". The SSID and Passphrase fields will clear out. Step 3: When changing the Passphrase, the current SSID suffix will need to be typed in the "SSID" field. Click "OK". Step 6: The below error may appear since Passphrase used to connect to the recloser for this session is no longer valid. Step 8: Open up the wireless networks on the PC. Right click on the correct network. Select "Properties". Step 9: Type in the new passphrase in the "Network security key" field. If desired, the box next to "Show characters" can be checked for a visual . Select the correct wireless network and click "Connect". The wireless network will now show "Connected". Step 11: Proceed to Step 5 through Step 10 in the "Connecting to a Versa-Tech I Recloser with the WiFi Remote Radio" section of this document. ©2014 Hubbell Incorporated | Versa-Tech® I WiFi Remote Radio Instructions Manual 15 Connecting with an Apple iPad In order to utilize the iPad app, the Versa-Tech I Recloser requires firmware version 4.xx. The iPad app is available for download from the Apple App Store. Connecting to a Versa-Tech I Recloser with the WiFi Remote Radio: Step 1: If the WiFi Remote Radio is not attached to the serial port of the Versa-Tech I Recloser, attach it with the provided mounting screws. Step 7: The "S/N" and "Recloser Time" will become populated once communication has been established. The "Disconnect" button will also replace the "Connect" button once communication has been established. Step 8: The Versa-Tech I Recloser is now ready to be programmed. Refer to the Versa-Tech Single-Phase Recloser "Installation, Operation and Maintenance Manual > Section 6 - Control Programming" for further detailed information on programming the recloser. Note: The passphrase and SSID cannot be changed using the iPad Versa-Tech Single Phase Recloser Programmer iPad app. ©2014 Hubbell Incorporated | Versa-Tech® I WiFi Remote Radio Instructions Manual 17 Limitations • The Versa-Tech Programmer iPad app can only be used for units with FW v4.xx and higher. The iPad app is available in the Apple app store. • The passphrase and SSID can only be changed utilizing the Versa-Tech Single Phase Recloser Programmer 4.50 for use with a personal computer. The iPad app does not have this capability. • Firmware upgrades cannot be performed via the WiFi remote radio for some reclosers. When performing firmware upgrades, refer to the table below to determine whether upgrade can be performed serially or wirelessly or both.
