years.Itisthefirstdrillmotorwhichcanberunonboth1Ͳphaseand3Ͳphaseinputpowerandthe
efficiencyinthemotorisextremelyhighthankstothebrushlessmotorandadvancedmotorsoftware.
ThePentruderuniversaldrillrighasbeendevelopedbasedonover30yearsofexperienceinthis
specializedfield.ConsistingoftheTStrack,aBTSbaseplateitoffersalightͲweight,yetverystabledrill
standforanykindofdrillmotor.WithcorrecthandlingthePentruderuniversaldrillrigoffersoutstanding

TheMDUoffersupto3kW(4HP)outputpowerin1Ͳphaseandupto9kW(12HP)outputpowerin3Ͳ
phasemode.Withtherightdrillbitsyouwillbeabletodrillfasterthaneverbefore.ThePentruderMDU
CoreDrillͲNTGRA®.isbuilttolastandwillbringbetterproductivitythroughlessdowntimeandlong
servicelifeofallcomponentsinthepowermoduleanddrivetrain.
TheMDUoffersaverygoodpowertoweightratioandhasthehighestoverallefficiencyofalldrillmotors
onthemarket.Maintenanceislowduetotheuseofabrushlessmotorandthereliabilityisthehighest
possiblethankstoanextremelyruggedandsimpledesign.
ThestatoriswatercooledandthecoolingsystemisselfͲdrainingwhichmeanslessriskfordamagefrom

energywhenrotating.Thereforeitiscrucialtoassemblethedrillingmachinefollowingtheinstructions
giveninthisoperator’smanual.Thefollowingarestepswhichareextraimportantwhendrillingwithabig
orlongdrillbit.
1.
FastenthebaseplatesecurelywithtwoanchorsofpreferableM16size,orminimumM12.
Otherwisethebasecantwistunderloadandcausemisalignmentbetweendrillbitandhole.
2.
Tightenallboltsonthebaseplate,thebackbraceandthetrack.Donotovertightenthetwobolts
thatclampsthetracktothebaseplate.Ifovertightened,thetrackTͲslotcanbedeformed,andthen
thebaseͲtoͲtrackstabilityiscompromised.
3.
Makesuretheeccentricrollersareproperlyadjustedtothetrack.Thiswilleliminateplay.See5.2.2
AdjustingtherollersonFTͲM3FeedunitandRTͲ45Rollerunit.
4.
CleanandlightlygreasetheQuickChangecoupling(ifaQCisused),bothQCͲadapterandthe
threadsinthedrillbitthreadadapter(ifused).Ifafixedspindleisusedthisshouldalsobecleaned
andlightlygreasedaswellasthethreadonthedrillbitorthreadadapter(ifused).

Startapproachingthewallwiththedrillbit,withamuchreducedspeedofthedrillbitbyusinga
lowgear.Donotusefullspeedtostartwith.Itisnecessarytobeverygentlewhenthedrillbitisfed
intothewall.Thefirst10mmarecrucialforsuccessfuldrillingwhenthedrillbitplungesfurtherin.If
thedrillbitstartswithamisalignment,thanthismisalignmentwillgrowthedeeperthedrillgoes,
endingupinalotoffrictionbetweenthedrillbitinsideandoutsidewall,andthehole.Itiscrucialto
getaverygoodalignmentfromthestart.Ifthealignmentisgood,thenthefrictionbetweenthedrill
bitandtheholewillbegreatlyreduced,andthetorqueneededtodrilltheholewillbemuchlower.
Thiswillminimizeproblemswithtwistingofthetrack.
6.
Drillgentlyforatleastthefirst10–20mm,ormore,thenfullspeedcanbeapplied.Whenthedrill
bithaspenetratedabout10Ͳ20mmintothewall,fullspeedcanbeapplied.
