1. Introduction
The HKDSE Examination Registration System (the Registration System) on the HKDSE Examination Online
Services (www.hkdse.hkeaa.edu.hk) is an online communication platform which allows private candidates to
register for the HKDSE Examination efficiently.
This manual introduces how late entry can be made via the Registration System during the amendment period,
and the procedures in updating subject and contact information for your submitted application.
During the amendment period, private candidates can apply for (1) Late Entry or (2) Subject Amendment via the
Registration System.
(1) Application for Late Entry
Private candidates who wish to apply for late entry for the 2014 HKDSE Examination during the amendment
period from 18 November to 30 November 2013 should register via the Registration System by three simple
steps:

(2) Application for Subject Amendment
Private candidates who have submitted their applications and settled the payment during the September
Registration period but wish to amend the subject information (except the supplementary information for Music
and PE) during the amendment period, should refer to Part 5 of this User Manual.
Before start, please read the “Instructions to Applications” which can be downloaded from the HKEAA
Website (www.hkeaa.edu.hk  HKDSE  Examination Registration  Private Candidates) and the main page
of the Registration of Private Candidate and check your computer configuration:
(1) Web Browser: IE8; Firefox 3.5 or above with Cookies and JavaScript enabled.
(2) Adobe Acrobat Reader 8 or above.
(3) Printer readiness.
Important Notes – Application that cannot be handled in the Registration System:
Private candidates who have submitted their applications and wish to make the following changes, should apply in
person or via an authorised person to the HKEAA Wan Chai office (Address: 12/F, Southorn Centre, 130
Hennessy Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong) during the amendment period. The supplementary fees and subject fees
(if applicable) should be paid over the counter by cash or EPS.

Update the personal information (e.g. Name and Date of Birth);
Withdraw from the 2014 HKDSE Examination;
Change the status from private candidate to school candidate or vice versa;
Apply for amendments to the supplementary information for Music.

2. Account Creation
2.1 Account Registration (for Late Entry)
Step 1
Click Create Account (For Private Candidate
Only) on the right hand side of the webpage at
www.hkdse.hkeaa.edu.hk.
Note: Previously created and unpaid private candidate
accounts are disabled before the commencement of the
amendment period. Please create a new account for
Late Entry, except for candidates who have already
registered in the June Registration. (Please refer to Part
4 of this User Manual for more details about how to
submit a late entry for private candidate who has
registered in the June Registration.)
Step 2
Enter personal particulars. The fields with * must
be filled in. Click Register to continue.
Note: Click the checkbox of the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy
to enable the Register button. Authentication code entered. Click
Refresh Image to generate a new picture if necessary.
Step 3
Check all the information and click Submit to
complete the account registration process.
Step 4
If the account is successfully created, you will see
the page “Create Account (Private Candidate) –
Success” shortly. Please note the following
important information as shown on the page:
 User ID for logging into the Registration
System;
 Amendment Period for registering late entry for
the HKDSE Examination.
Step 5
You will receive an account activation email in due
course. Open the account activation email and click
the hyperlink to activate your account.

Enter the Login Password and Email Address on
the account activation page. Click Activate to
complete the activation process.
If the activation is successful, the following screen
will be shown.
2.2 Forget Password
In case you forget your login password, follow the steps below to
create a new one:

Click Forgot Login Password at the top of the
login page. The “Forgot Login Password – Reset”
page will be shown.
Step 2
Enter your User ID and Email Address into the
fields provided. Then click Submit to complete the
process.
Step 3
The “Forgot Login Password – Success” page will
be shown. A temporary password will be given to
you by email.
Step 4
Use the temporary password to login the HKDSE Examination Online Service. You will be required to
create a new password. Please remember the new password you have entered.

3. Examination Registration
Important Notes:
While completing your registration entry, you may save the completed part by clicking the “Save” button and
retrieve the application details for continuation later as long as the amendment period is not over. Upon
submission of your registration entry to the HKEAA, your subject entries cannot be further amended, with the
exception of your contact information and the choice of examination centre district (see Note) on the Candidate
Information page.
Note: Private candidates are not allowed to change their choice of examination centre district in the Registration System after the
amendment period.
3.1 Login the System
Step 1
Enter your User ID and Login Password at
www.hkdse.hkeaa.edu.hk. Click the Login button when
finished.
If you fail to enter the correct password three times, an Authentication field will be shown next to the
User ID and Login Password fields. You are required to enter the authentication code according to the
picture next to the Authentication field when you attempt to login again.

Click the Registration of Private Candidate at the top of the
page.
Then click the HKDSE Examination Registration System button

1. Please be reminded to disable the pop-up blocker of the Internet browser in order to display the
Registration System window.
3.2 Candidate Information
Fill in your personal particulars on the Candidate Information page.
Step 1
You must complete all the fields marked with *.
You have to upload the image of your identity document (ID) with the format and size as prescribed on
the page. Please make sure that your ID is valid and your name and ID number entered are the same as
those printed on your ID.
You may view the Choice of Examination Centre District list on this page by clicking “District”.
After completing all the necessary fields, you may

click Save to save your record. If all the information is saved successfully, the message “Saved
Successfully” will appear at the top of the page; otherwise, error messages will be shown next to
the fields where problems occur.
click Continue to proceed to the next page. A message “Confirm to save before continue?” will
be displayed. This is to ensure that user saves all changes to the fields before leaving this page.
To continue, click OK.
3.3 Selection of Subjects
Step 1
Choose a subject which you would like to register.
a. Click the tab (Category A / Category C) to select the Subject Category.
b. Then, click the Language Version to select the subject or paper/module in that Category. Check
your selections under Selected Subjects table.
c. Repeat Step 1a to add all the subject(s) you wish to enter for the HKDSE Examination. Click Save
to save your selection. Or you may click Continue to the next page. To continue, click OK to
confirm the pop-up message “Confirm to save before continue?”.

1. You may click Save to save the information entered.
2. You may click Back to go back to the “Candidate Information” page.
3. You may click the “X” button next to each selected subject if you want to remove it from the
selection. Remember to click Save to save your updated selection.

If you have registered for Music and/or Physical Education subject on the Selection of Subject page,
please go to Step 2. If you have not selected the above two subjects, please go to Section 3.4

If you have chosen Music and/or Physical Education on the Selection of Subject page, two buttons
will be shown next to the subject, where you are required to provide supplementary information
and upload the supporting documents for the respective subject by following the steps below:

/ Paper 5), select your paper options (Paper 4/5/6) or apply for paper exemption (Paper 5 /

3.4 Previous Examination Attempted
Important Notes:
You can skip this Section if you have satisfied both of the following conditions:
i.
You have reached the age of 19 by 1 January of the year of the HKDSE Examination; AND
ii. You will not take any practical subjects in the Examination.
Step 1
If you have not reached the age of 19 by 1 January of the year of the HKDSE Examination or will enter
the practical subject, the Previous Examination Attempted page will be shown. You have to
substantiate that you are eligible to sit for the HKDSE Examination by selecting the year of the
previous public examinations (HKCEE, HKALE, HKDSE, GCE, GCSE, IGCSE or other qualification)
that you took in the fields provided.
Step 2
If you have selected year of the former GCE, GCSE, IGCSE or other qualification, you should upload
the photocopy of the examination certificate(s) to the Registration System. Candidates may be
required to submit the originals of the examination results or certificates of your public examinations to
the HKEAA for verification.
Remarks:
1. You must select at least one of the examination years of the aforesaid examinations.
2. You may click the “practical subjects” hyperlink on the page for the list of the practical subjects
that require substantiation.
3. Application for Subject Amendment: The qualification that you provided during the September
Registration cannot be editable.
After completing the Previous Examination Attempted page, you may
1. click Save to save the information entered.
2. click Back to go back to the “Subject” page (see Section 3.3).
3. click Continue to go to the next page. The system will prompt you to save the information
entered before moving to the next page.

3.5 Verification and Confirmation
Step 1
You should check the information carefully on the Confirmation page.
a. Click Download Checklist to download and print the “Candidate Entry Information Checklist”
(CEIC) (see Appendix 1) to check your entry information. Click the hyperlink to download the
Information Sheet for Checking of Candidate Entry Information Checklist (CEIC) for
reference.

c. The amount of the subject fee and the supplementary fee incurred from the late entry will also be
shown at the end of the Confirmation page. Please refer to “List of Examination and
Supplementary Fees” which can be downloaded from the HKEAA website (www.hkeaa.edu.hk 

details about the Subject Fees and the Supplementary Fees.

If you are under 18 years old before 1 January of the current examination year or have entered
Physical Education or Music, you have to submit a recent photograph to the HKEAA for affixing on
the Admission Form which will be issued later on. (Note: Candidate who have entered for the Physical
Education or Music AND has not reached the age of 18 by January of the current examination year,
should submit an extra photograph to the HKEAA) A Photo Submission Appointment section will be
shown and you have to select an appointment session for submission of the photograph before
confirming your application details.
Remarks: You will receive an email with your appointment time and venue for the photo
submission once the examination fee is settled.
Step 3
Read carefully the Declaration and make sure that you understand the conditions set out in the
“Instructions to Applicants (Private Candidates)” which you can access by clicking the hyperlink.
To submit your application to the HKEAA, click the checkbox of the Declaration and click the
Confirm button. Please note that once you have submitted your application, you cannot make further
changes to your application (except contact information and choice of examination district (see Note))
through your account. A message “Confirm to proceed?” will be displayed. Click OK to confirm and
move to the next page.
Note: Private candidates are not allowed to change their choice of examination centre district in the Registration System after
the amendment period. Please refer to Section L of the “Instructions to Applicants” for more details.

3.6 Settlement of Payment
Your application has been submitted to the HKEAA. Now you have to settle the examination fees before the
payment deadline in order to complete the registration. The system provides different payment methods to
facilitate you to settle the payment.
Step 1
Select the payment method on the Payment page. You may choose to either 1) pay by online credit
card payment by VISA / MasterCard; or 2) download the demand note and pay by cash at any 7-Eleven
or Circle K convenience stores in Hong Kong, or through PPS or Internet banking service.
a. If you choose to pay by VISA / MasterCard, click the
button. The system will

direct you to the payment website instantly. Click the credit card logo
the type of credit card you use. Then, enter the Credit Card Number and its Expiry Date and
click the Pay button. You will be notified immediately if the payment is successful. Click OK to
return to the Registration System.
Remarks:
1. Make sure the Internet browser or anti-virus software of your computer does not block the
pop-up payment window; otherwise, the payment cannot be processed.
2. The issuing bank of your credit card may require you to enter a separate password for every
online transaction as a safety measure. This could be done on another window. Please check
with your card issuing bank if you are in doubt.
b. If you choose cash payment at a 7-Eleven or Circle K convenience store, click the
button and print the demand note (See Appendix 2 for the Demand Note sample).
You can then go to any 7-Eleven or Circle K convenience stores in Hong Kong and present the
demand note for payment. Remember to retain the receipt of payment for future reference.
c. If you choose to pay by PSS or through Internet Banking service, click the
button and print the demand note (See Appendix 2 for the Demand Note sample). Follow the
instructions on the PSS or internet banking service and enter the bill account number, which can be
found in the “Bill Account No. (16-digits)” for use in Internet Banking and PPS on the demand
note.
Remarks: A payment confirmation email will be sent to your designated email address if payment
is successfully done. Please refer to the “Instructions for Payment of Examination Fees (Private
Candidates)” available from the main page of Registration of Private Candidate or the HKEAA
website for more details.

Step 2
The following screen will be shown when the transaction of payment is done. If you use credit card for
payment and the transaction is successful, the payment information will be updated immediately.
However, if you have chosen to pay at any 7-Eleven or Circle K convenience stores or via PPS or
Internet Banking service, as the transaction is not completed and verified immediately, the Payment
Status will temporarily be ‘Unpaid’ and the relevant payment transaction details on this page will be
blank until the transaction is verified. As a result, you are advised to reserve some time for making
payment, which may vary across different merchant banks.
When the Payment Status becomes ‘Paid’, you can click the Print button to save or print this page as a
proof of your payment.
The registration for the HKDSE Examination is completed. You can view your registration
details by logging into the Registration System with your User ID and password.

4. Candidates who have registered in the June Registration
but is late for the September Registration
If you have registered in the June Registration but are late for the September Registration, you can apply for a late
entry of September Registration by following the steps below:

5. Update Subject Information
If you have registered for the September registration and wish to apply for amendments of subject entry
information of Category A and Category C (Other Languages – June 2014 Series) subjects, you should make an
application for subject amendments via the Registration System during the amendment period.
Important Notes:
Before making the application for subject amendment, please read Section J of the “Instructions to Applicants”
which can be downloaded from the HKEAA Website (www.hkeaa.edu.hk  HKDSE  Examination
Registration  Private Candidates) and the main page of the Registration of Private Candidate.
You can update your selection of subjects by following the steps below:

Login with the account registered for September Registration.

Click Subject Amendment. A message “Confirm to proceed?” will be displayed. Click OK to confirm
and move to the Subject page.

The Subject page will be displayed immediately. The page shows the subjects selected during the
September registration.
Remarks:
1. You may click Save to save the information entered.

3. You may click the “X” button next to each selected subject if you want to remove it from the
selection. Remember to click Save to save your updated selection.
4. You must select and save at least one subject before proceeding to the next page.

You may refer to Part 3.4 to 3.6 of this User Manual to continue with the registration process.
Remarks:
1. If you have added Physical Education or Music during amendment, you have to submit an additional
recent photograph to the HKEAA for affixing on the Admission Form which will be issued later in late
January 2014. For details, please refer to Part 3.5 Step 2 of this User Manual.

Important Notes:
For Music candidate, if you have already entered for Music during the September Registration and wish to
change the language version of the subject from Chinese language to English language or vice versa, you may
apply for the change on the Subject page.
However, application for amendments to the supplementary information for Music cannot be accepted
via the Registration System and therefore all the fields on the Supplementary Information page of Music will
be displayed on the READ-ONLY mode and cannot be edited.
If you have entered for Music and wish to amend the supplementary information, including changes to the
musical instrument and other details for Paper 2 and Paper 5, the project title for Paper 4 or information about
exemption for Paper 5 / Paper 6, should complete an application form (available for download from the
Registration System from 18 November 2013). The candidates should then submit the completed form in
person or via an authorised person at the HKEAA Southorn Centre office (Address: 12/F, Southorn
Centre, 130 Hennessy Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong) before the deadline. You should settle the payment of
the supplementary fee by cash or EPS at the time they submit their completed form.

6. Update Contact Information / Choice of Examination
Centre District
In case you want to update your contact information at any time within the current examination year or update
your choice of examination centre district before the amendment period, two ways are provided and please follow
the steps below:

the “Candidate Information” page.
