Overview The G2C1 controller is a general purpose embedded controller primarily designed for creating a Graphical User Interface. It can be paired with one of several 4.3 inch LCD panel displays, with or without either resistive or projected capacitive touch screens. The board is small enough to easily fit in space-constrained applications. It is designed to be powered by 5V – either from a USB connection or separate supply. It has a wealth of I/O interfaces for connecting to other sections of a medical or industrial product. 1.2. Features 454 MHz ARM9 processor with long term (10 year) availability Passes FCC Class B Emissions without an enclosure (8 layer fully shielded PCB) Survives 27KV ESD (in enclosure) to pass strict gaming commission standards Custom Embedded Linux distribution supplied and maintained by Reach – detailed Linux experience not required Can be mated with standard and high bright industry standard 4.3 inch LCD panel Touch-screen option resistive or projected capacitive Can be powered by an external 5V source or through USB 128 MB DRAM and 128 MB 8-bit NAND Flash memory onboard ** Option available for a second NAND Flash device read-only for high reliability / security Boots from an SD memory card or onboard Flash Battery-backed, low current (10 year) real-time clock Onboard audio sounder 10/100 Mbps Ethernet interface Two USB host ports that can power attached peripherals One USB On-the-Go (USB OTG) host or device; device mode can be used to power the controller UART Serial interfaces: one 3.3V CMOS, one RS-232, two 3Mbps max full / half duplex RS-485/RS-422 SPI, I2C, CAN bus, GPIO ports Dedicated Linux console port 3D model, EMI, and ESD test results available ** Options are available for different memory sizes; contact Reach Sales. Onboard LEDs The G2C1 board has four green LEDs, shown in Figure 4 as D2, D3, D5, and D18. The purpose of each is shown in Table 2. Table 2. LED Activity LED # D2 D3 * D5 * D18 Indicates Power On GPIO3_27, active Low (see also Figure 12, page 22) SPI Slave Select 1, also GPIO2_20, active High (Figure 13, page 22) Ethernet Link Activity (see also Figure 11, page 21) * Under software control 1.8. Battery The onboard battery is a CR1025, used to maintain power to the real-time clock (RTC) when main power is off. The battery will last for 10 years under nominal ambient temperature conditions. If the clock displays incorrect time at power-up, the battery needs to be changed. 1.9. Power Requirements The G2C1 board requires a 5V DC input, +/- 5%, on jumper J3. At boot-up it uses a maximum 650 mA with no external devices attached. If the board will be supplying power to external USB devices (500mA max.), the input power should be a minimum of 5.15 V to meet the USB specification at the far end of the longest USB cable run. The board can also supply +5V to other external devices on some of the connectors, and all such supplies need to be considered in the power budget. The input power connector can handle 3A of nominal 5V input. The board can also be powered via the USB OTG connector - please consult Reach for requirements to power this way. 1.10. Grounding The board mounting holes are connected to digital ground. These must be connected to chassis ground either directly or through a transient protection diode for ESD. The resistive touch circuit has ESD protection that shorts ESD on the touch panel to the board mounting holes. 1.11. Environmental The controller board is rated for temperature operation of -20ºC to 70ºC; this is primarily limited by the LCD temperature range. G2C1 Controller Manual V1.3 5/13/2014 Page 11 1.12. Audio The controller board includes an audio sounder that can be controlled by software. The hardware uses two pulse-width modulation (PWM) sources to set frequency and volume (see Figure 15).
