Epson Transforms Legacy Product For New Applications
The old, ubiquitous Serial Impact Dot Matrix (SIDM) printers (simply known as Dot Matrix) is one of the
first types of printers to be widely used in the office space. Synonymous with extreme durability, the
dot matrix uses a matrix of small pins to strike an ink ribbon and create precise dots on the page.
The sounds that accompany this type of computer printing come from the impact of a print head
running back and forth, or up and down, on the page. The print head strikes an ink-soaked cloth ribbon
against the paper, much like the print mechanism on a typewriter. However, unlike a typewriter or daisy
wheel printer, letters are drawn out of a dot matrix, and thus, varied fonts and arbitrary graphics can be
produced.
Businesses, especially in Asia and Latin America, continue to rely on this ultra-durable printer with its
generally strident mechanism that can be heard all over a productive work area.
The dot matrix printer continues to be a reliable partner in accounting departments or other businesses
that require applications for multiple copies or carbon copies that have to be printed simultaneously,
such as receipts, tickets or invoices. This is a special function that laser and ink-jet printers cannot
accomplish.
As a pioneer and world-leading manufacturer of dot matrix printers, Epson has always been equated
with this well-regarded machine.
“Epson dot matrix printers have been constantly improved throughout the years to be responsive to
current needs. This unbeatable printing partner continuous to evolve and remains to be an important
printing solution in both corporate and government segments, banks, retail, logistics, and hotels,”
explained Thea Austria, Epson Philippines’ Head of Business System printers.
Building on its reputation as the world’s top dot matrix printer maker, Epson has introduced even better
dot matrix printers that offer extreme speed, optimum efficiency, and even higher reliability than its
legendary predecessors. Today’s flexible connectivity with multiple interfaces has also been integrated
with the new Epson dot matrix printer line-up.

Users of Epson dot matrix printers can go to the company’s website, give a rating for the dot matrix
printer they use, and share their experience with the product. Five participants will be chosen at
random (“Sweepstakes”) as winners, and each winner will receive an Epson LW-400 Labelworks
printer.
The Sweepstakes is open to any person who owns or uses an Epson dot matrix printer, whether at
home or at work, within the Philippines. Ownership and usage of the printer shall be verified via the
participant’s submission of the product serial number. Each product serial number can only be
