Victoria Chinatown Care Centre Victoria, British Columbia Job Title: Executive Administrator and Director of Care Reports to: Victoria Chinatown Care Society Board of Directors Organization: The Victoria Chinatown Care Society is a vibrant non-‐profit organization in Victoria, BC with a reputation for high quality, innovation and leading practices. We receive funding from the Vancouver Island Health Authority and BC Housing to provide a range of services including adult day programs, and residential complex care for adults at the 31-‐bed Victoria Chinatown Care Centre, located at 555 Herald Street in Victoria, BC. Skills and Abilities: As Director of Care, this position requires the following skills and abilities: • Demonstrated interpersonal and leadership skills. • Demonstrated ability to supervise. • Demonstrated ability to teach adults. • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively including effective conflict resolution. • Ability to coach and mentor staff. • Ability to organize, coordinate and prioritize workload effectively. • Ability to identify the learning needs of designated staff and develop individual learning plans to address these needs. • Proficiency in operating equipment related to the care centre, as well as various computer applications such as Simply Accounting and Point-‐Click-‐Care.. • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position. In addition, as Executive Administrator, this position: • Would be responsible for providing leadership to a dynamic organization undergoing significant changes and taking new directions in providing care. • Would be responsible for the overall management of The Facility, a facility providing a multiplicity of services to seniors and eligible long-‐term care residents/clients, including residential health care. • Would provide an optimal level of care, within available resources, while maintaining the dignity and individuality of the residents/clients. • Would report to the Board of Directors of the Victoria Chinatown Care Society. Victoria Chinatown Care Centre Victoria, British Columbia • • • • • • • Would be accountable for managing department fiscal and human resources, develops, monitors and evaluates practice standards, care delivery models and quality indicators. Complies with regulatory statutes, accountable for the fiscal and human resource management for the resident care department, as a member of the senior management team, participates in strategic and capital planning processes. Participates in development and monitoring of the departmental operational and capital budget. Monitors absenteeism for the department and leads the absence management program for the department. Ensures that staffing levels are within budgeted limits. Represents employer during grievance procedures. Ensures compliance with collective agreements (BCGEU, BCNU/UPN). Overall: As an ambassador of the Victoria Chinatown Care Centre, and a role model to our organization, the Executive Administrator must have a strong, personal alignment with the VCCS Mission, Vision and Values and be exemplary in promoting and reflecting these in all interactions. You must have well-‐ developed leadership, management and supervisory skills and a leadership style consistent with our values. The Executive Administrator requires exceptional interpersonal skills, and has the ability to foster and maintain effective professional relationships. You must be a critical thinker, results oriented, able to problem solve and resolve conflict, be organized with attention to detail, and able to manage your time, workload and conflicting priorities effectively and efficiently. QUALIFICATIONS • Graduation from a recognized Nursing Program. • Minimum of the Bachelor of Science Nursing Degree. • Combination of education, training and/or experience acceptable to the employer. • Prefer at least three years’ experience in a senior managerial role. • Current knowledge in Gerontology, Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) Gerontology Nursing Certification preferred. • Experience with Canadian Council Health Services Accreditation principles. • Knowledge of Cantonese and/or Mandarin would be an asset. This position is excluded, full time and may require flexibility for some travel, and working evenings or weekends. Compensation includes a comprehensive benefit package.
