CPA Division II on Education & Training Supervisory Conference - Northern California Saturday October 11th – Fulfills Mandatory 6 hr Supervision CE Course (Co-Supported by California Psychology Internship Council (CAPIC) ) Dear CAPIC Supervisors, Clinical Training Directors, Directors of Clinical Training and Faculty involved in Clinical Training: The California Psychological Association (CPA) Division II on Education and Training is pleased to extend an invitation to you to attend its annual Northern California Supervisory Conference to be held on Saturday, October 11th, at the San Francisco campus of Alliant International University. This year we are honored to have as our invited speaker, Nicholas Ladany, Ph.D., Dean of the School of Education and Counseling Psychology at Santa Clara University. Attached, please find a conference flyer and a brief outline of the day’s schedule. In addition, Dr. Jo Linder-Crowe, CPA CEO, will be attending to also greet those who attend and share late breaking events that are relevant to our field. This conference is titled “Behind the Supervisory Door: What Your Interns Don't Tell You" and is designed for Training Directors, Directors of Clinical Training, Clinical Supervisors and those involved in education and training in our field, and offers 6 Continuing Education (CE) Units for meeting California Board of Psychology (CA BoP) requirements for Intern Supervisors. You must attend the entire conference to be eligible for these CE units. We are very pleased to be able to feature Nicholas Ladany, PhD, at this conference. Dr. Ladany is Dean of the School of Education and Counseling Psychology at Santa Clara University in Santa Clara, CA. He previously served as Director of the Counseling Program at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, CA, Program Coordinator & Director of Doctoral Training of the Counseling Psychology Program and Chair of the Department of Education and Human Services at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He received his Ph.D. at the University at Albany, State University of New York, in 1992. He has published numerous articles and presented nationally and internationally in the area of counseling and psychotherapy supervision and training. His primary research interest and activity include the interrelationships between supervision process and outcome, and counseling and psychotherapy process and outcome, including such issues as the working alliance, selfdisclosures and nondisclosures, multicultural training, ethics, and social justice. He has served as an Associate Editor of Psychotherapy: Theory, Research, Practice, and Training, has served on the editorial board of the Journal of Counseling Psychology, The Counseling Psychologist, and Counselor Education and Supervision. He has published five books including: Practicing Counseling and Psychotherapy: Insights from Trainees, Clients, and Supervisors, Critical Events in Psychotherapy Supervision: An Interpersonal Approach and Counselor Supervision (4th edition). This invitational conference aims, as have conferences in the past, to assemble California’s graduate education and clinical training leaders to discuss not only cutting edge issues in psychology but also to provide opportunities to discuss training challenges and best practices. In addition, the conference affords: • An opportunity for dialogue with colleagues and experts from across the state; • Fulfillment of 6 CE credits that fulfill the 6 hours of formal training in supervision, required of intern and postdoctoral trainee supervisors by the California Board of Psychology • A pleasant setting, ample parking, continental breakfast, tasteful luncheon buffet, and refreshments throughout the day. Because you have been specifically selected to represent your particular school, institution or organization at this invitational conference, we do need to receive your reservation as soon as possible. The modest $130.00 registration fee ($100.00 for CPA/Division II Members) is fully inclusive of meals and 6 CE credits, as the conference is partially subsidized by CPA Division II. If you cannot attend, we would like to encourage you to designate another representative from your training site. We are truly excited about this conference and the chance to draw together such a dedicated group of professional educators in our state. Dr. Doris Penman Advocacy Award for Students: We also encourage you to make a voluntary donation to the CPA Division II Dr. Doris Penman Advocacy Award for Students. Doctoral students who are awarded this scholarship will receive a $500 award, as well as financial support to attend the annual CPA Leadership and Advocacy Conference in Sacramento. Your support for this effort is greatly appreciated, at whatever level of support you choose.
