Psalm 23:1-6
“ The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still
waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they
comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup
overflows.”
Dear Parents,
Welcome back to the final term of 2014 – it really feels like time is flying! The 4th term is always a very busy term,
albeit quite a short one, as we wrap up 2014 and prepare for 2015. I do hope that you all enjoyed the short
holiday with your children. I find myself reminded of the fact that as Parents and Teachers we assume the role of
“shepherds” with our own children, and those placed in our care. Psalm 23 teaches us about God’s leadership for
us – and the Bible consistently uses the term “shepherd” to illustrate leadership. The bible teaches us that as
Shepherds we should lead with confidence, love unconditionally, protect from harm and importantly, correct and
comfort. In this final, busy term, our role as our children’s “shepherds” is of paramount importance, and a huge
responsibility. The good news is that our shepherd, our Lord God, is with us every step of the way. May I wish
you and your children a wonderful and successful final term!

Ashleigh Smyth submitted a motivation to attend Rally to Read and was chosen by Jaguar Landrover South Africa
to participate in the recent Rally to Read Project on 13th and 14th September. Rally to Read is a project sponsored
by many corporates which sees representatives travel to rural schools across South Africa to deliver much
needed educational materials. The experience gave Ashleigh the opportunity to meet the teachers and learners
who will be impacted by this wonderful initiative as well as gaining a deeper understanding of the development
needs within rural South Africa.
We are so excited about our new Penryn Prep Facebook page! This is a wonderful platform for us to share daily
events, achievements and other exciting news with all our Prep families. May I encourage you to follow the link
below and then “like” the page, so that it will be part of your Facebook news feed. May I also stress that we want
the Facebook page to be a positive, celebration page – it is not intended to be a channel for raising concerns.
Please feel free to either email the prep, or phone us, should you wish to raise any concerns.
From time to time, we may wish to include photographs and/or examples of our learners’ work in our school
newsletter, Website, Facebook or Twitter pages. Penryn Prep does not publish individual photographs of children
or their work in electronic or print form without permission from their parent/s. To ensure we respond accordingly
with your wishes, please let us know in writing if you do not give consent / approval for the publication of
photographs and work of your child.

Penreach News:
From catching bugs to discovering the mysteries of the universe. It was a science-filled learning experience for
Penryn’s Foundation Phase on September 22.
Classes visited the Penreach Science Centre for six different activities that included a practical chemistry
experiment, a nature walk, a puppet show, digital learning and videos demonstrating exciting science experiments
to do at home.
Learners were also able to visit the Shalamuka Science Exhibition Hall where they delighted in sending a ball
spinning down an imitation Black Hole. Other exhibits informed learners on optic illusions, different surface types,
volumes, mass, and construction to name a few.
Penryn and Penreach aim to make this a regular institution to support classroom learning with practical work.

From the Chaplain’s Desk:
Hello Penryn Family,
Life with Jesus offers an opportunity to grow into all that we were created to be. As Christians we have never
arrived but are always on a journey. Someone once said, ‘Jesus loves us the way we are…….’ They then added
‘He loves us to much too leave us that way’……. This journey with Jesus is one of continual challenge and
growth.
Let us look at Jesus’ interactions with three people and then consider Jesus’ interactions with us.
Jesus talks to Mary and says to her – John 20 17, “Do not hold on to me,……”. Mary’s growth requires letting go
of Jesus. Thomas on the other hand is invited by Jesus, John 20.27 “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach
out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.” For Thomas to grow he needs to touch and to
feel, to hold on. Peter on the other hand is asked 3 times “Do you love me?” John 21.17 “Peter was hurt because
Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.”
Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.”. When I thought of this interaction I wondered if Jesus needed to hear what Peter
said or if Peter needed to hear what He was saying. Peter needed to remind himself of his deep and undeniable
love for Jesus.
I invite you to take time now and think for a while about what Jesus would be saying to you, remembering that
Jesus loves you the way you are, but loves you too much to leave you that way……
God bless you as you grapple with how Jesus is calling you to grow into all that you were created to be……
