From the Principals
Bromfield is humming with activity at this point in the year. Classrooms are
alive with discussions, debates, presentations, and labs and with extracurricular activities meeting regularly both before and after school. It is
gratifying to see our students so engaged with their learning and their
community.
We had another special schedule to accommodate Activity Period on
Tuesday. Students reported to various parts of the school after third
period. Each grade level had a specialized program for the thirty minute
period. The seniors attended a workshop on interview skills. Juniors
received some basic insights into automotive maintenance and needs
(flats, jump starts, etc.) and they also received information from the
Harvard Police Department about what to do in an accident and when
pulled over by the police. Sophomores also met with members of the
Harvard Police Department to discuss internet safety. Seventh graders
met with their individual guidance counselors and the Sixth Grade met as
a grade level to have a class meeting and to give out their first “Cracker
Jack” Awards. Finally, our eighth and ninth grade students continued to
meet in the Roundtable groups.
It is hard to believe that we are just past the midpoint of the first term.
Progress Reports were issued to students last week. We hope and trust that
your child is having a strong start to the school year. Do not hesitate to
reach out to the school if you have any questions or concerns. Please
remember to contact your child’s teacher if you have a concern or
question about your child’s progress in a class. In addition, your child’s
guidance counselor will be happy to assist with any scheduling or
concerns about his/her overall school experience. Finally, do not hesitate
to get in touch with either one of us with questions or concerns about The
Bromfield School. While on the subject of assessment, MCAS scores were
mailed to you last week if your child is in grades 6-11. Please contact the
school if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child.
Your child should have received their picture packets this week if you
ordered them. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact
Coffee Pond Photography at www.coffeepond.com. Picture retake day is
scheduled for October 28th for anyone who is dissatisfied with their picture

packet and for anyone who was absent on the original picture day. We will
also be taking extra-curricular club photographs on that day.
Please remember that there is no school for students on Monday, October
13th (Columbus Day) and Tuesday, October 14th (Teacher Professional Day).
Our staff will be spending the Teacher Professional Day learning how to best
infuse technology into the curriculum. Each staff member will attend five
sessions that day and we anticipate a great deal of staff learning that will
make our classrooms even more dynamic.
We do want to make you aware of the upcoming fall music concerts at The
Bromfield School. On Monday, October 20th, our band groups will perform
while the chorus will entertain us on Wednesday, October 22nd. Both
concerts begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be held in the Cronin Auditorium.
Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for November 24th, 25th, and
December 3rd. Please remember that dismissal will be at 11:05 on those days.
The PTO is again generously funding the on-line sign-up this year, and we truly
appreciate their support. The conference reservation system will be activated
on Thursday, October 16 at 8:00 a.m. and you will be able to sign up for
conferences at that time. Directions about the sign-up process for
conferences will be posted on Edline and in the parent addendum of the
Bromfield Daily Bulletin in the upcoming days. Please be aware, however,
that we cannot post the password for the on-line system on Edline or in the
Bulletin due to copywrite rules. The password will be emailed to you. If you do
not receive the email, please contact the main office and we will give the
password to you.
Have a great long weekend!

Bromfield Detailed
Parent Teacher Conferences
Parent Teacher Conferences at The Bromfield School are traditionally held on the Monday and Tuesday before
the Thanksgiving Break and on the Wednesday after that break. In the past, the Monday and Tuesday were
days where students did not have school, but recent history has seen all three days having an 11:05 a.m.
dismissal leaving the afternoons for conferences. This year, conferences on Monday, November 24th will run
from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and then from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The conferences on Tuesday, November 25th will go from
12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Finally, conferences on Wednesday, December 3rd will run from 12 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. All
teacher conferences will be 10 minutes long, with the exception of Special Education teachers who will have
20 minute conferences.
We are grateful to the PTO for sponsoring our on-line sign ups again this year. Those with good memories will
remember the days where parents signed up for their conferences in the cafeteria prior to Open House. While
there may be some who fondly recall the long line (sometimes stretching up into the middle school wing!) and
the “friendly” jostling for position, the vast majority really appreciate being able to sign up for conferences
from the comforts of home. The conference reservation system will be activated on Thursday, October 16 at
8:00 a.m. and you will be able to sign up for conferences at that time. Directions about the sign-up process for
conferences will be posted on Edline and in the parent addendum of the Bromfield Daily Bulletin in the
upcoming days. Please be aware, however, that we cannot post the password for the on-line system on Edline
or in the Bulletin due to copyright rules. The password will be emailed to you. If you do not receive the email,
please contact the main office and we will give the password to you.
The purpose of Parent Teacher Conferences is obviously to get information about your child’s progress in
his/her classes. Ten minutes tends to go by quickly, so we recommend that you write down, or make note of,
specific questions or concerns prior to meeting with the teacher so those questions or concerns are
addressed. We have found that 10 minutes is sufficient in most cases to receive the important details about
your child’s progress. Please realize that it is important that teachers stay on schedule. If you feel that you
need additional time to address your questions or concerns, please schedule another time with the teacher
when time will not be such a factor.
It is also important to note that there are a number of teachers who have more students than slots available to
meet. If you are unable to meet with a teacher during the scheduled conference times because his/her slots
were filled, please contact that teacher so you can get an update on your child’s progress. In some cases, an
email exchange or telephone call may be sufficient to assess how your child is doing.
One final thought...your contact with a teacher is not limited to conference time. We encourage you to always
directly contact the teacher whenever you have a question or concern about your child’s progress in a class.
The teacher is best equipped to give you the answers you are seeking. Our teachers pride themselves on
ensuring that all students learn to their greatest potential and open communication is a key to providing a
great experience for your child.
