However, the spiritual revival of a church does not just occur. It is also more than hir hiring a preacher and putting aside three or four days on the church calendar. True revival belongs to the Lord and He is the only one who can send it. If we really want revival, then we must reach down into our souls and earnestly pray -- and that with much tears and meekness to ask Jesus to bless us with this revival. If we would pray daily for our church, it wouldn’t surprise me to see our church blessed with new converts and members this October. We have a little time left, so if you haven’t been praying for revival then now is the time to start. We need to pray for Reverend Marion Britton (Pastor of Jackson First Baptist), who will be our revivalist. Other prayer subjects are our pastor, deacons and all of the teachers and leaders at Foreman. Also, let’s pray for the music for the revival. These are just a few of the needs to be lifted up, but with a little thought and effort, I’m sure that you could come up with many wonderful requests that would help our revival. I look forward to seeing you there! - David Watkins Awana Training – September 13 Seven of our Awana leaders attended a day of training at Abilene Baptist Church in Martinez. It was a really good training, and we learned how to better reach our community for Christ through Awana. The morning session began with a “parade” of flags representing the countries who have Awana groups. There were 18 flags, the 4 colors of Awana flags, and the United States flag. We said the pledge to the US flag, the pledge to the Awana flag (which goes, “I pledge allegiance to the Awana flag, which stands for the Awana Clubs; whose goal is to reach boys and girls for Christ, and train them to serve him.” We broke out into 2 morning sessions of our choice (depending on our area of service), had a Chick-Fil-A sandwich and a Klondike bar; and then went to the last two sessions. Our Awana group was awarded a plaque for having at least 70% of our leaders attending. We had 7 out of 10 leaders present! Thanks to FMBC for supporting this worthwhile outreach, and to the leaders for continuing to demonstrate: Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed! FMBC Update Page 2 of 4 Thank You for Your Service! Service Anchor Rehab This month has been a little bit of a challenge for the Anchor team. Bernice has been ill and could not make a couple of meetings. Of course, when she can’t go that means that Jennifer stays home and takes care of her; which means that Mrs. Pope doesn’t go because Jennifer is her ride—which pretty much leaves me—which I really don’t mind – but I like it much better when we’re all there. All of that said, we have had some wonderful meetings at Anchor Rehab over the last few weeks. I love to minister to the residents with singing and JOIN US FOR SUNDAY LUNCH! On the Menu October 19: Chili Plates are $5 each; proceeds to support summer youth camp in 2015; come to the CLC after the monthly meeting. preaching. There are many opportunities to pray a special prayer or to comfort someone who’s feeling low. Sometimes they just need someone to talk to. What Whatever the need, we consider it a privilege to be able to fellowship and m minister with these wonderful people. Of course, with Anchor being a rehabilitation center now we are not only dealing with senior citizens. Pretty much anyone could come through there that has been to the hospital; which also opens new avenues of ministry ministry. We have had people from all walks of life in our services. Whether they are preachers or lost, we always enjoy the time that we spend with them. Who knows, maybe revival will break out at Anchor one day soon. - David Watkins Sunday School Director Robert Grigsby formally thanked the “retiring” teachers who recently wrapped up decades of leadership roles at FMBC. Generations have benefited from their weekly preparation, and we are all grateful to the Lord for them, and to the teachers for their innumerable contributions to the children of the church. The teachers who were recognized with a certificate of appreciation on Sunday, September 7 were: Mrs. Carol Tucker – Over 25 Years’ service teaching children and adults, and as outreach leader. Mrs. Barbara Kendrick,, Mrs. Janelle Pope, and Mrs. Louise Parrish – All Over 40 Years’ service teaching children. children Mrs. Edna Hanna – Over 40 Years’ service teaching children and served serv as Sunday School Secretary. Mr. Robert Grigsby was presented a certificate of appreciation by Pastor Richard for his over 30 years’ service as either Teacher, eacher, Assistant Director, or Director. irector. Robert continues to serve as Sunday School Director for the 2014-15 church year. WE APPRECIATE ALL OF YOU!! TRUNK OR TREAT!!! November 1, 6-7 pm We always have SUCH fun handing out candy at Trunk or Treat! You will need to mark Saturday, November 1 as our Trunk or Treat day since October 31 falls on a football Friday night and we believe having it on Saturday will be better. You will have an opportunity to contribute candy or cash this year—or or even better better— come and bring your own trunk! The Foremani Foremanites might turn up as just about anything to entertain the community, and some of the trunks or SUV rear areas are decked out as well! There is never a dull moment! We will do some advertising so parents will know when to bring the kids, and we can show the he love of Jesus! Taken last year at Trunk or Treat – above: Wesley & his grandfather, Richard Nichols; below: Brihanna Maas and Shamirra Braswell. SATURDAY NOVEMBER 1 6:00 – 7:00 pm at the FMBC PARKING LOT ON PINE STREET Donations Don of candy now being accepted; please leave in the church office or green vestibule box. Vehicles should be set up by 5:45 pm. Page 3 of 4 Music Ministry Christmas is right around the corner! The choir has begun work on this year’s special music for the Christmas season which will center on the Advent Wreath. Starting Sunday, November 30, we’ll present music in the service that explores the meaning behind each candle: Prophecy & Hope, Bethlehem & Love, Shepherds & Joy, Angels & Peace, and Christ & Purity. On the Sunday before Christmas, December 21, we’ll recap the previous weeks for this year’s Christmas Musical. Then we’ll conclude the musical series on Christmas Eve at the Candlelight Lord’s Supper Service with the lighting of the Christ candle. If you’re interested in singing with us, there’s still plenty of time to learn the music! Practice is at 6:45pm each Wednesday right after the Prayer Meeting. Back in 2003, Mr. Clanton Mosley conducted a survey of church members to determine our church’s favorite hymns. It was a great idea with great results, and in between now and the end of 2014, we will conduct a similar survey. Keep an eye out in the coming weeks for information. There will be homework! But it will be enjoyable (and not graded). Be thinking of hymns and songs that mean a lot to you, your favorite hymns and songs, and your favorites of what we do in Morning Worship on Sundays. – James FMBC Update Friends Class News Women on Mission Seven ladies attended the Women on Mission meeting on September 8. Mrs. Geraldyne Bradham filled in wonderfully for Mrs. Yvonne since she was unable to meet that night. The Friends Class and a few other friends gathered at Red Lobster in Aiken on September 6 to honor retiring teacher, Mrs. Carol Tucker. The class welcomes Mrs. Irene Hawley as their new teacher in that class for the 2014-15 year. Class members present at the party/meal were Amy Bailey, Linda Ricks (seated), Carol Tucker, Joy Ho, Karen Hutson, Ann Poston, and Wendy Grigsby. We prayed for the missionaries who had birthdays, then had refreshments provided by some of the ladies. As always, it was good fellowship and time spent in prayer! The next meeting will be a week earlier than usual and on TUESDAY, TUESDAY October 7, since Revival val meetings are planned for the following week and we will all want to be there! All ladies are welcome! Meet at 6:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall. - Wendy OUR SENIOR ADULTS visited the SOUTH CAROLINA MILITARY MUSEUM in Columbia on August 21, then shared a meal at Fuddruckers. Larry Ricks, Louise & James Parrish and Carol Tucker Pastor Richard Nichols Remember Winter Storm Pax? We’re still cleaning up from it, but many thanks to all the Nordeens and their friend (pictured) for taking care of the remaining stumps, and to Aaron Boyd for his earlier work on helping us with those.
