Sept. 30, 2014 Dear Members: The Chinese American Political Association ( CAPA ) was founded in 1984 due to a significant discrimination-‐based ruling made at the local government level in the East Bay against a number of Chinese-‐American residents. At that time, the founders had taken a commitment to raise the overall political awareness of Chinese and other Asian Americans, and to promote active participation in political processes. Over the last 30 years, many CAPA programs were designed as such, with much success. A sister organization, the CAPA Community Education Fund ( CAPA CEF, a 501c(3) organization ) was created in 1997 to carry out civic education programs, while CAPA remained focused on local elections and other political issues. As of early 2013, the CAPA board came to the conclusion that CAPA’s mission has been largely accomplished in Contra Costa County since its inception. Therefore, the CAPA Board filed and received approval from the Secretary of State of California to dissolve CAPA. The Articles of Dissolution for CAPA were received by the California Secretary of State, effective as of January 31, 2014. Meanwhile, the vision of the founders of CAPA is continuing on, with CAPA Community Education Fund ( CAPA CEF ) carrying the worthy banner that CAPA started over 3 decades ago. CAPA CEF is still actively engaged in its education programs, including the highly successful internship program. CAPA CEF looks forward to many more years of fostering political education and civic engagement in the local Asian-‐American community. On behalf of the CAPA Board of Directors Stephen Lin President
