Initial Orientation Session for the NEW Parent Catechesis Sessions – Thursday, October 9, 2014
An initial Orientation session will be held for priests, laypersons, new catechists/facilitators, or coordinators of Catechesis

who will be facilitating the parent sessions for the parents requesting sacraments for their children: Thursday, October 9 ;
1:00 PM to 3:30 PM OR 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM, Kateri Hall, 622 Taché Avenue, Winnipeg. The content of the Initial Orientation
Session includes: Becoming familiar with the three sets of sessions offered for parents and the implementation of the
diocesan catechetical policy; Overview of adult learners, generational learning, strategies to engage adults in faith formation;
Experience a model session; and Network with others who will be facilitating these New Parent Catechesis Sessions.

A recent survey showed that only 5% of Catholics could be called disciples of Jesus. Other churches (even “evangelicals”)

The Chemin Neuf Community will hold a monthly prayer group this Fall – the 2 Tuesday of each month at St. Charles

Decree on Ecumenism

November 21 , 2014 marks the 50 anniversary of the Second Vatican Council’s Decree on Ecumenism, ‘Unitatis
Redintegratio’. This document affirmed and strengthened the Catholic Church’s commitment to the ecumenical
movement, which the Council described as being ‘the initiatives and activities planned and undertaken’ to
promote Christian unity. The Bishops of Canada would like to highlight the significance of this anniversary by

pioneers – Sunday, October 12, 2014
Sunday, October 12, 2014 will be special for all Canadians. Pope Francis, the Successor of the Apostle Peter, will preside a
Mass of Thanksgiving in Saint Peter’s Basilica, to celebrate the declaration earlier this year that the Universal Church
recognizes two of our great pioneers, Bishop François de Laval and Mother Marie of the Incarnation, for their heroic sanctity,

Pope Francis asks the entire Church this September 28 to pray for the upcoming Synod on family

The III Extraordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops is being held from October 5 to October 12 and treats the
topic: The Pastoral Challenges of the Family in the Context of Evangelization. Particular churches, parish communities,
institutes of consecrated life, associations and movements are invited to pray for this intention during Mass and at other
liturgical celebrations, in the days leading to the synod and during the synod itself. In Rome, in the Basilica of Saint Mary
Major, prayers will be recited each day in the chapel of the icon, Salus Populi Romani. The faithful, individually but above all
in families, are invited to join in these prayers. The suggested prayers include the Prayer to the Holy Family for the Synod,
composed by Pope Francis. The recitation of the Holy Rosary is also recommended for the duration of the synodal
