It can also help to talk to someone; for example, your peers and your peer advisor. Remember that you are not alone. We created this calendar to help ease your transition into college. The study skills teaching staff at the AAC recommends making a schedule to help manage your time efficiently. Visit http://www.ohio.edu/tutoring/studyskills.cfm for more information on the benefits of making a daily, weekly, and semester schedule. Don’t forget that CAP is here to help you! S/he can help you plan your schedule, remind you of your major’s requirements, suggest courses for you to take and answer other questions you might have. Here is a list of steps to follow in order to make the most of your academic advising. • Find your advisor’s office in your first semester. Note office hours, telephone number, and e-mail address. • Take the initiative to contact your advisor. Don’t wait for your advisor to contact you. • Make an appointment during pre-registration, and meet with your advisor at least once a semester. • Remember that you are ultimately responsible for seeing that all your graduation requirements are met. • Go to advising sessions with a draft of your schedule for that semester. Ask questions! Your advisor is there to help you. As a CAP student, you must discuss classes with your CAP advisor in addition to your faculty advisor. Your CAP advisor will lift your CAP registration hold once you have met with him or her.
