CONFERENCE OVERVIEW AND TARGET AUDIENCE
This conference is designed for physicians, pharmacists, physician assistants, residents, registered nurses, diabetes educators,
social workers, dietitians, health educators, students/interns/residents and other healthcare practitioners involved in the care
and treatment of patients with diabetes.
CME ACCREDITATION AND DESIGNATION
This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Texas Medical
Association (TMA) through the joint sponsorship of BorderRAC and El Paso Diabetes Association. BorderRAC is accredited by
TMA to provide continuing education for physicians.
The El Paso Diabetes Association (EPDA) is a local and independent 501(c)(3) health service provider dedicated to serving the
needs of El Pasoans with diabetes or at risk of developing diabetes. The EPDA is accredited by AADE (Association of American
Diabetes Educators).
BorderRAC designates this educational activity for a maximum of 7.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM. Physicians should
claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in this activity.
NURSING ACCREDITATION
University Medical Center of El Paso is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Texas Nurses Association,
an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
University Medical Center of El Paso-Approved Provider unit provides up to 7.16 continuing nursing education contact hours.
Nursing Purpose Statement: The purpose of this education activity is to enhance the knowledge base of Registered Nurses in
the area of diabetes by addressing nutrition strategies, cultural barriers and the implementation of interdisciplinary teams in
an effort to improve management of diabetic patients as evidenced by positive patient outcomes.
LICENSED PROFESSIONAL COUNSELORS AND SOCIAL WORKERS
Paso del Norte Children’s Development Center is an approved Continuing Education Provider by the Texas State Board of
Examiners of Professional Counselors and the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners. This program will offer 1.0 SW
CEUs and 7.16 LPC contact hours.
PHARMACY ACCREDITATION
This activity is eligible for ACPE credit; see final CPE activity announcement for specific details.
CHES
An application has been submitted to award Certified Health Education Specialists (CHES) and Master Certified Health
Education Specialists (MCHES) up to 7.0 total Category 1 Continuing Education Contact Hours (CECH).
A certificate of attendance will be provided to other healthcare professionals for requesting credits in accordance with
specialty societies or other professional associations.

A total of 20 posters/abstracts will be accepted and displayed during the 11th Annual Faces of Diabetes Symposium. Poster submissions
must represent research or projects related to diabetes. Participation is FREE. There are prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. The submission

[email protected]. Posters will be discussed and judged during lunch. Announcement of winners will be made at the end of
the conference.
