VBLOCK® SYSTEM 740 OVERVIEW
VCE represents the next evolution of IT—one focused on the next generation data center and the future of cloud computing. VCE
®
seeks to eliminate the challenges that consume today’s data center resources. VCE designs and delivers Vblock Systems, which
seamlessly integrate leading compute, network and storage technologies. Through intelligent discovery, awareness and automation,
Vblock Systems provide the highest levels of virtualization and application performance.
®
The new Vblock System 740 is the industry’s most advanced, intelligent converged infrastructure with unmatched performance,
capacity and availability for the most demanding mission-critical applications.
It is powered by the next generation of Cisco UCS blade servers, Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI)-ready network,
®
EMC VMAX3 storage array, VMware Virtualization, and enhanced system management platform. A key feature is the new VMAX3
hypervisor–HYPERMAX OS that intelligently optimizes I/O management, QoS, availability, storage tiering and data integrity
validation. Customers can expect a 3x storage performance and 2x SAN bandwidth increase than previous VMAX-based Vblock
Systems. Additional features include the industry’s first Cabinet 2.0–Intelligent Physical Infrastructures (IPI) that provides simplified
power and environmental visibility.

Base configurations and scaling
For each Vblock System 740, there is a base configuration that is a minimum set of compute and storage components, as well as
fixed network resources.
These components are integrated within one or more 28-inch 42U cabinets. Within the base configuration, the following hardware
aspects can be customized:
