DATA SHEET VBLOCK® SYSTEM 540 OVERVIEW ® VCE continues to deliver differentiated value with leading technologies from Cisco, EMC and VMware. Vblock System 540 is the industry’s first ‘All Flash’ converged infrastructure. It is engineered for scale-out performance at low latency, ideally suited for the most demanding customer applications. Vblock 540 provides superior flexibility for high performance, mixed workloads, such as Oracle ® ® OLTP, SAP, Microsoft applications and VDI. It also supports the VCE™ technology extensions for EMC Isilon storage and Cisco ® UCS compute. Vblock 540 is comprised of the industry-leading XtremIO storage, for linear growth and scale-out performance. With its ‘all flash’ architecture, it is easy to size, simple to manage, and optimized for unmatched operational excellence. One size does not fit all, Table I and Table 2 provide an overview of the latest technologies customers can choose, such as the latest Cisco UCS M4 servers, ACI-ready networking, and EMC X-Brick configurations. With superior optimization, scalability, flexibility and operational simplicity, this true converged architecture minimizes customer risk, reduces TCO, and accelerates innovation. Base configurations and scaling For each Vblock System 540, there is a base configuration that is a minimum set of compute and storage components, as well as fixed network resources. These components are integrated within one or more 28-inch 42U cabinets. Within the base configuration, the following hardware aspects can be customized: TABLE 2: VBLOCK SYSTEM 540 CUSTOMIZATION HARDWARE How the Vblock System 540 can scale-up COMPUTE BLADES Cisco UCS M3 & M4 B-series Blade types including all supported VCE Blade configurations Up to 192 UCS blade servers COMPUTE CHASSIS Cisco UCS Blade Server Chassis Up to two Cisco UCS domains (two pair of fabric interconnects) yielding support for up to 192 halfwidth Cisco UCS Blade Servers STORAGE XtremIO X-Bricks 1 X-Brick – 20 TB/10 TB raw capacity 2 X-Brick Cluster – 40 TB/20 TB raw capacity 4 X-Brick – 80 TB/ 40 TB raw capacity 6 X-Brick – 120 TB raw capacity DATA PROTECTION Avamar plus Data Domain solution Together, the components offer balanced CPU, I/O bandwidth, and storage capacity relative to the compute and storage arrays in the Vblock System. All components have N+N or N+1 redundancy. Learn more about how to quickly realize the benefits of converged infrastructures with Vblock System 540.
